File quality: 32-bit versus 64-bit ?
Hi, I am planning to use my iMac "Core Duo" (32-bit) for batch processing. Would there any difference in the resulting output files if I used a "Core 2 Duo" (64-bit) machine instead? Obviously performance in conversion will be better on the 64-bit. But I'm asking about the output...

Anamorphic question, a few DVD's behave differently
Hello, I'm a frequent user of HB. I thought I understood the Anamorphic Guide, until I saw a few situations like the following. Can someone help me understand plz? As per the guide, I always thought the Output: dimension would be wider when anamorphic is checked. It almost always is. But in about 1 ...

Good opinions, thanks.
Thanks for the sensational and helpful replies, guys. @ bdkennedy1: I can't tell the difference between 2000 and 2500. I used to rip my movies at 2500 and then when my hard drive crashed (thank god I only had 50 movies on it), I started ripping again at 2000 and guess what? The same compression arti...

Can anyone actually tell a difference in 2000 vs 2500 kbps?
Hi, I read the entire thread in this section "Post Your Best Settings here and Why." In general, folks putting their collection on a media server chose 2000 kpbs. I saw three comments about not being able to tell the difference in 1500, 2000, and 2500 bitrates. I thought I'd ask, for H.264...

Your choice of 2500 kbps default for Apple TV?
Hello, How did you guys come up with your choice of 2500 for the default bit rate for the Apple TV setting (which to me, represents media servers, in general)? Don't blast me, I'm not intending to start another debate. Trust that I realize this is purely a PERSONAL choice and I understand the tradeo...

@BucksSaddler: What file sizes do you end up with on those .MOV's ? And what settings did you use for video encoding in Handbrake?
thanks.
thanks.

Thanks but..
Thanks but I failed to mention that I do not use AppleTV nor do I plan on purchasing one. I have a Netgear EVA8000 which can play the dolby digital as long as I use a file that supports it. My question was really geared at how to preserve the dolby digital using handbrake and an MP4, and that's not ...

Hey thanks..
Ha! I'm busted, yeah they are all the same question. I hate trying to put together quesitons when I don't know what I want. Ok, so it makes 6 discrete channels, but this is not the same as Dolby Digital . So I'm just getting AAC-encoded channels. Sounds like my stereo can't do much with the 6 separa...

if your decoder can grok Dolby Digital 5.1, what would the point be, say, for it to automatically downmix to Dolby Surround/DPL II? If I was in a room that only had 2 speakers set up. I could inform my receiver of that, and it would create the right mix, rather than me having to select an audio tra...

Frequently asked questions about Dolby Digital ...
Hi, I'd had some questions about how to encode audio, to make the most "portable" MP4 possible. That is, not all of my rooms have Dolby 5.1, for example, but I want a portable MP4 to play on my regular TV. I wondered if, for ripping my entire collection for a media server, did I want to en...

Noob question about de-interlacing and such...
Hi, I've read all the doom9, Wikipedia, and Handbrake threads and docs I could find, and it's clear that in general, I will NOT select de-interlace. For at least two reasons. (1) De-interlacing is a lossy process, by definition. And (2) per Handbrake's "Guide to De-interlacing," on all DVD...

I decided on 2000 mpbs
I'm doing the same thing -- encoding hundreds of movies. I'm displaying on a wall where the picture is about a 115" diagonal. ;-) So I want good quality. Regarding your choice of 1500 vs. 2500, after a week of exhaustive testing I landed on 2000. My reasoning (talking strictly H.264) is: (a) th...

I use H.264
After a week of exhaustive experimentation I definitely saw a difference in the lower bitrates H.264 versus FFMEG. 1000 mpbs and lower. Above this, I had difficulty seeing the difference.
My experiments were with high-res DVD's with lots of color, smoke, water, explosions, etc.
