Re: Cropping limit?

Forum rules Activity Log is required for support requests. See Must Read: How To Get Questions Answered on These Forums for details I did a search before posting, but didn't find anything related to a limit for massive cropping. I apologize if the answers was out there somewhere. I think in this ca...

Re: Cropping limit?

I have a 1080p 3D H-SBS MKV, trying to make it 2D again, which works if first cropping away half the screen. Need to crop 960 pixels, but the cropping UI only allows me to reach 958 pixels max, for some annoying reason.

Cropping limit?

Trying to do right cropping on an mkv file that I want to convert, but it seems the cropping can't go higher than 958 pixels? Is this intended, a bug, or a result of some settings?

You can use Subler, and the 'Export' feature in the menu to extract a subtitle from your m4v as a srt.

Re: Regarding frame rate changes during remuxing...

The timecodes are stored in the container. In handbrakes mp4 output, the timebase is 1/90000th second. This also does not evenly divide a frame time. In this case, a frame would be 3753.75 ticks of the timebase clock. So remuxing is going to be mapping timestamps that have a small jitter in one con...

Re: Regarding frame rate changes during remuxing...

The "standard" timebase for mkv is 1ms. The framerate of your source appears to be 23.976. So each frame is 41.708375 ms. The closest duration evenly divisible by the timebase is 42ms. But you would slowly loose a/v sync if all frames were this duration. So in order to keep the timing cor...

Re: Regarding frame rate changes during remuxing...

If anyone is curious, here is a snippet of the timecodes for the mkv file: # timecode format v2 0 42 83 125 167 209 250 292 334 375 417 459 500 I don't know the format of timecodes v2, but I assume this is the ms stamps for each frame or something? There is a cadence of 42, 41, 42, 42, 42, 41, 42, 4...

Regarding frame rate changes during remuxing...

I made this specific post at https://www.bunkus.org/answers/?qa=679/mkvtoolnix-changed-frame-rate-of-original-mp4-movie regarding frame rate change of a Handbrake converted movie when I later converted it into mkv with MKVToolnix. My issue is that when doing a conversion container cycle, m4v -> mkv ...

Re: Some constant frame rate details...

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I saw that I misread the other thread... It was 1 frame 3753 ticks long, followed by 3 frames 3754 ticks long, which makes sense. For MediaInfo fps reports, 23.974 fps = 3754 ticks per frame 23.981 fps = 3753 ticks per frame and 23.968 fps = 3755 ticks per frame I thi...

Some constant frame rate details...

I would like to connect to this thread https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=24478 where it was mentioned that Handbrake used a 90 KHz timebase, which results in variable frame rate reports in MediaInfo. More specifically, MediaInfo commonly reports this for a 23.976 fps movie Frame rat...

Re: FFmpeg version in Handbrake?

Thanks for the detailed answers. :) We will eventually switch to Libav's decoder, but its DRC implementation isn't yet as flexible as liba52's. And what does the encoding parameters look like for a standard DTS to AC3 conversion currently? Please clarify. I can do DTS 5.1 to AC3 5.1 conversion by my...

Re: FFmpeg version in Handbrake?

Thanks! So you previously used ffmpeg 0.7, but switched to libav in the nighties? And libav is the fork of ffmpeg, if I read correctly. The reason for my curiousness is that I wanted to check the state of the AC3 encoder. I heard it's really good in the latest ffmpeg (which has vesion 0.11 by now). ...

Re: DPL2 vs. Stereo Mixdown

FYI, I have noticed that Handbrake generates DPL2 tracks (from DTS) with a lot of clipping. I studied the waveforms in Audacity. When I do my own downmixes of DTS to DPL2 via Sox I see no clipping. That many DTS-Core tracks seem to have clipping directly from the Blu-ray may affect it, but I just wa...

Re: Handbrake support for Mountain Lion

Actually, there is a serious problem in Mountain Lion. The OS will go to sleep while you are encoding/ripping, unless Handbrake is updated to support so called 'power assertions', essentially telling the OS it should not go to sleep while the program is running. I suffered from this last night, afte...

Re: DPL2 vs. Stereo Mixdown

DPL2 preserves surround mechanics, so that you get seemingly surround sound from 2 speakers if your 2 channel equipment supports it. If it doesn't support it, it will playback like a normal Stereo track. Stereo does typically only use the audio from the left and right speaker from the original surro...

Re: Variable vs. Constant Frame Rate

Hm... well, revisiting this issue makes me nervous. I had decided to continue encode with variable frame rate, since I was of the impression that it should yield a smoother playing movie anyway, with a more modern format. But the only program to study potential frame rate differences is MediaInfo, w...

Re: framerates - constant / variable

In case anyone wonder, I've decided to continue encode using variable frame rate. Would feel more assuring if I know others to that as well, tough. ;) Mostly going to play these on iOS devices which supports it, and I hope other devices will in the future as well (such as WDTV).

Yeah, I know. It's just a theoretical question in order for me to understand more about going from variable frame rate to constant frame rate, and possible issues. :)

Re: framerates - constant / variable

Thanks for the information. I guess I have one last thing I wonder about. If you have a variable frame rate mp4 (produced by Handbrake itself, using variable frame rate option), and then decides to convert this mp4 again, using 'same as source' and 'constant frame rate' this time, would this work? W...

Re: framerates - constant / variable

What I don't fully understand is why choosing 'same as source' and then 'variable or constant frame rate, in Handbrake, yields different frame rate readings in MediaInfo? The Blu-ray as source is supposed to be constant frame rate. And choosing same as source is supposed to preserve the original tim...

Re: Variable vs. Constant Frame Rate

Unfortunately it seems hard to really confirm that a source has constant frame rate. MediaInfo is not so good in that regard, and I see no other good alternatives. Will chosing 'same as source' and 'constant frame rate' cause trouble if the source is originally variable frame rate?

Re: framerates - constant / variable

The issue is that HandBrake uses a 90 kHz timebase. Some framerates, such as 23.976 fps (24000/1001) have a fractional duration with that timebase (3753.75 ticks per frame), so there is a small variation in the duration for each frame (1 frame 3753 ticks long, followed by 3 frames 3754 ticks long, ...
