Re: Handbrake on Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10
I recently tried nightly builds 4416svn and 4437svn on Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. I'm noticing compared to version 0.9.5 on Ubuntu 11.04, I'm getting a large 30%-50% drop in fps encoding speed when using h264 high profile (the only profile I use). I tried using several different sources but got the same re...

Re: FLAC for Future Use
Technically speaking, bit depth is only meaningful when applied to pure PCM devices. Non-PCM formats such as lossy compression systems like MP3, have bit depths that are not defined in the same sense as PCM. In lossy audio compression, where bits are allocated to other types of information, the bit...

Re: FLAC for Future Use
There's little point in using FLAC for DVD sources, unless the audio is LPCM. They exist but I haven't seen many. Two that come to mind are the 25th anniverary of Pink Flloyd The Wall and Neil Young Live at Massey Hall. The Neil Young DVD was even 24bit 96Khz 2.0ch LPCM. Actually that reminds me of...

Setting anomorphic to strict is the easiest way to do that I know of.notatinklefan wrote:Any suggestions on how to get the ratio correct? There aren't any settings on the player app (it's pretty bare-bones), so it's going to have to be on the encoding end.

Re: My rips look horrible
I have had similar problems with some DVD transcodes using the h264 codec. Most notably your screenshot reminds me of what one of my Surpranos season 1 encodes looked like when played under VLC. I do get this and other problems in other players occasionally, like XBMC or MPC Home CInema. Disabling G...

Re: Says it requires 1024x620, but mine meets req.
Initially handbrake was running fine on my pc but then I started getting the same type of error. I didnt figure it out until I read both posts, but what fixed it for me is right click on the desktop and select Screen Resolution, then click "Make text and other items larger or smaller". I h...
