I also tried with my MacBook Pro 2017 (7 gen CPU) & I have the same good situation!
I can understand what you mean, but also PLEX server reports that the files are correctly in HDR10 profile.
How could it possible?!

Re: Encoding HDR
Hello there, Happy New Year first of all! I tested on a MacBook Pro 15 - 2018 (8gen CPU) an encoding of MKV 4K HDR10 using h265 10-bit. This is the result: https://i.postimg.cc/CKtByZZL/01.png https://i.postimg.cc/HLjcP0kh/02.png This is the last version of HandBrake! So finally HDR support h...

Re: Encoding HDR
Ok, I finished my test! I bought an original blue-ray 4k HDR. I transcoded it with h.265 10bit profile 16k mbps. Original mkv was 52GB and after HandBrake it's 11GB mp4. The result is great, fully compatible with INFUSE & PLEX apps & VLC (Win10, Mac, Ubuntu, iOS, tvOS & Android). Also ma...

Re: Encoding HDR
No, HandBrake doesn't do HDR at this point, sorry. Hello there, just for clarifying the situation! I am trying to compress (in mp4 or mkv container) a 4K video with HDR10 h.265 profile standard. Is HandBrake able to do that? I tested the simple h.265 profile with INFUSE software on iOS and it is no...

Re: HEVC encoded files future safe?
Anyone can help me?
It is not possible to encode and mkv h264 into an mov h265 with the new version of HandBrake 0.10.
HB converts without problem, but the file is not playable (with VLC or MPlayerX)!
I use these settings:

Re: HEVC encoded files future safe?
You need to use VLC 2.2 or 3.0 . They forgot to include h.265 support in the current mac version. Many thanks for your help, but I tried VLC 2.2 or 3.0 and both are not working! If I play the h265 videos linked in DropBox above, VLC works perfectly, so it is probably my fault using HandBrake's sett...

Re: HEVC encoded files future safe?
I have no idea about the details of encoding (although I have read a lot already, but nothing in depth). I just try to find the most efficient way to encode my videos and currently I get the best results with x265. If one of those "more knowledgable" people could tell me how they got bett...

Re: how to select constant bitrate
Different encoder, different options. I have little knowledge of libavcodec options (which are what's used to ffmpeg2/ffmpeg4 encoders). Ok.. who can help me with ffmpeg2 in your opinion? Are you shure that using h264 i can create a CBR with the options -b 10000 -x vbv-maxrate=10000:vbv-bufsize=100...

@ Rodeo Ok, this is my final script: for i in *.mov; do newname=`basename $i .mov`.mp4; HandBrakeCLI -e x264 -b 10000 -r 29.97 --pfr -E faac -B 256 -R 48 -f mp4 -4 -X 1280 -x vbv-maxrate=10000:vbv-bufsize=10000:tff --loose-anamorphic -m -i $i -o $newname; done Mediainfo says: Bit rate mode : Variabl...

Re: how to select constant bitrate
x264's CBR mode is enabled by setting vbv-maxrate=<bitrate> in the advanced panel (or via the CLI's --encopts option), where <bitrate> is the same as the selected average bitrate. You'll also need to set vbv-bufsize , otherwise the maxrate will be ignored (when in doubt, you may set it to the same ...

Re: how to select constant bitrate
Ok, so a CBR encoding is not useful as a VBR encoding, that's why HandBrake does not use it. Am i correct? This is the script i am using for the test (handbrake-tff-h264-vbr): for i in *.mov; do newname=`basename $i .mov`.mp4; HandBrakeCLI -e x264 -b 10000 -r 29.97 --pfr -E faac -B 256 -R 48 -f mp4 ...

Re: how to select constant bitrate
No, i mean constant bit rate. For example: -b 10000k means everage bitrate for the encoded video, but some scenes will have lower bitrate, othe higher. Is it possible to choise a fixed bitrate for all ? Fixed constant bitrate gives a higher quality, average bitrate gives very good quality with less ...

how to select constant bitrate
Hi there,
i am not able to select "constant bitrate" on HandBrake!
I do not mean "Constant quality" that creates a variable bitrate!
Can HandBrake encode with constant bitrate?
Thank you!

Re: CLI Query on Activity Windows
Ok!
I am studying the CLI version, it would be great if you developer could realize and publish some scripts for "Toggle Presets".
This would be helpful because in a transcode there are too many parameters!
Am i wrong?
Thank you guys!
