Re: X-Men Audio Not in Sync
The subtitle track that I enabled on my rip doesn't actually have a language associated with it. It's labeled as "Unknown." If you rip the disc to your hard drive, just play the movie back as you would normally and check to see which subtitle track is automatically enabled. I believe there...

Re: X-Men Audio Not in Sync
That worked. Guess I'll have to wait for the fix before I can encode X-Men... it has a subtitle track that needs to be on for certain scenes.

X-Men Audio Not in Sync
I'm not exactly sure what's going wrong, but I can't seem to get my copy of X-Men to encode properly. The rip is from the X-Men 1.5 DVD release. I ripped and stripped it originally with DVDFab. Whenever I try to encode the entire movie, the first chapter's audio is completely buggered. It doesn't pl...

I Had a Dream...
Clearly I need to take a break from encoding. I had a dream last night wherein someone posted that an updated version of HB was released, and that weighted b-frames no longer caused the fading issue on ATVs. Further to that, enhancements had been made to x264, and now a setting of 49% CRF was suitab...

Re: can Handbrake handle .dvdmeda files from RipIt
I just wanted to add the fact that I've experienced the same problem (HB crashes when attempting to load a .dvdmedia file) with at least one older DVD: the 2-disc special edition of Batman Returns (was released in '05, so copy protection wasn't quite in the same state as it is now). Opening by title...

Re: On iTunes Not on AppleTV
The appropriate place for this question is on Apple's Discussion Boards, since your problem is actually an issue between iTunes and your ATV. This has nothing to do with Handbrake. You still have to sync iTunes' information with your Apple TV, even if you don't want to sync the actual MOVIE. In the ...

Hey Rodney, thanks for the reply. I had initially tried doing a search for "Wall-E" and came up with no results, I tried again as per your suggestion and still didn't get any results... but upon searching for "wall e" voila... the results you spoke of. I'll be more diligent in th...

Weird Encodes
Okay... I exited HB and cleared the queues before I noticed this problem, so I don't have any activity logs to post. I also doubt that my settings had anything to do with it. I ran several encodes overnight during this past week and came across some rather odd issues. Both encodes of WALL-E and Die ...

Re: This has to be the S L O W E S T piece of software...
I don't know what settings you used, but a 2 hour movie takes me about 3-4 hours to encode on average. That doesn't take into account the differences in hardware (and I'm pretty sure that a Core 2 Duo wipes the floor with a Sempron).

8x8dct and Apple TV
This question is for anyone who tried enabling 8x8dct for file that was to be played back on an Apple TV in the past. When the encode didn't play, did it not play right from the get-go (i.e. Apple TV wouldn't even begin to play the file at all)? Or did it play to a certain point and then stop abrupt...

x264 Options w/CRF
Just so I'm clear, if I encode something at a given CRF percentage, any options that I specify will affect the filesize/bitrate of the encoded file, correct? The visual quality should be the same, but the filesize will be affected by whichever options I choose--is that right? Or are there specific q...

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)
8x8dct still seems to be working just fine. I tested with a couple chapters from a few movies: Final Fantasy: Advent Children, The Fugitive, Eyes Wide Shut, Sunshine, and Miami Vice. There wasn't a single hiccup with any of them.

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)
With the chapter I was testing with, omitting weighted b-frames increased the filesize by about 1-2%. I'm not sure if that percentage carries over to a full-length encode, though.djdeejay wrote:How much percentage wise can i except to see an increase in bit-rate/file size now?

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)
After many tests, I've discovered that the culprit behind the issue with fades is the weighted b-frames option. I've been testing with the first chapter to Eyes Wide Shut (*sigh* Nicole Kidman) since the titles are large, bold white characters against a black background. The WB logo was also suscept...

Were you encoding to 720p or 1080p?osohardy wrote:So far my only other bluray rip is Kung Fu Panda, which HB eats for lunch. I was able to stick with 62% and come out to 3.2 mbps and really hard for me to tell the difference from the disk.

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)
Well, I tested rates from 59-65% with the longest movie I have (King Kong), and I was able to keep it under 3GB with Cav's settings @ 64%. That's perfectly fine for me. I doubt it's actually the biggest movie I have (I believe that title belongs to "Sunshine," a 3 and a half hour long dram...

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)
Well, I may have changed my tune. I went home and gave Abulia's settings a whirl with "Finding Nemo." I can't say I was impressed with the results. I got better results using Cav's settings (see earlier post in this thread) @ 64% CRF than I did with Abulia's @ 62% CRF, on top of which Cav'...

Re: AppleTV Advanced Settings (Post PsyRDO)
Abulia: I'm liking what I'm seeing (even if single-frame captures are irrelevant with CRF) with your settings, and I'm looking forward to reading about your findings with regard to stuttering and HP:OotP. Time and size are inconsequential for me... unless we're talking about GIGS of bloat.

Re: Xbox 360 vs. AppleTV
My Airport is pretty much on the opposite end of my apartment as my 360... so I imagine that might have its effects on the signal strength. But I would imagine I'd see those effects in the way of actual pausings of whatever video I'm watching... and I do get that sometimes(e.g. the black-and-white m...

Re: Xbox 360 vs. AppleTV
And you're streaming via Connect360? Hmm... I wonder if the fact that I'm using 802.11g instead of n might be why. I've got an Airport Extreme, but the girlfriend's computer doesn't have the ability to use the N protocol... I was thinking that I'd get an AppleTV, wire it to a Mac Mini nearby with an...
