Re: mergeing several shorts
It depends on your source. If you have the original vobs from a dvd source you can concatenate them with vobedit and reauthor the ifos with ifoedit, both of which are free tools. If you are using something other than dvd files as a source there are other tools available one of which I use is virttua...

Re: Encoding movies to 350-400mb
Wow. I have been encoding for about 10 years now and back when I had a Palm Zire 71 I encoded the movies to fit on the 320x320 screen and only had a 1 GB SD card I so I would have specified the file size to be that small to get two movies on the card. Given that the 1 GB SD card cost about $80 makin...

Re: DVD with many episodes - and languages!
Right ... vob does not equal episode. My recommendation would be to use DVD Shrink. Open the disk and click the reauthor button. This will allow you to see all the titles on the disk. It has a preview window that will allow you to see which episode you you selected and with a right click on the prev...

Re: DVD to AVI software
I would be careful about how this is handled. RipIt4Me is an example of a ripping and cleaning program combined to a "wizard" program. It used DVD Decrypter to rip and FixVTS to clean the rip. The problem came from the use of DVD Decrypter which was acquired by Macromedia. The producer of ...

Re: Containers and Xbox360
Dave, DVDFab is a great ripper which continues to get better but it still leaves you with a dirty rip. You can clean the rip with VobBlanker found here: http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/vobblanker.htm but I would not use the encoding applications within DVDFab as I have seen others run into a mul...

Re: XVID AC3 DTS?
I read your other post here: http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5013&p=30193&hilit=dts#p30193 and it looks like you are trying to get both AC3 and DTS audio into an XviD encode. Handbrake should do AC3 but I don't think it will do DTS properly. If you need to use XviD there is...

Re: Problems with Bond movies?
Reauthoring with DVD Shrink is something I always do .... It allows trimming of the movie to get rid of the credits and extra stuff to minimize file size. If you wanted a faster solution DL VobBlanker and use it to clean the rip. It should just take a few minutes to process it. http://download.video...

Re: Handbrake and DVD Players with USB input
I downloaded the manual for the Philips DVP5982 from this link: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/dvp5982_37/dvp5982_37_dfu_aen.pdf and there is no support for any video playback through the USB port, only jpeg, mp3, and wma files. (Page 16.) So this player won't do what you're wanting it to do. Ph...

Re: Ripping to Zune instructions - Easy as pie
Gonna make me eat my words ... Rush Hour 3 just made RipIt4Me crash. I haven't liked it so much in the past but I downloaded DVDFab and it isn't so bad. They have a free version that will rip the full DVD or just a main title. You can find it here:
http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Hope it helps.

Re: Ripping to Zune instructions - Easy as pie
Hey Michael, sorry it's taken me this long to get back .... school has been hectic and I haven't checked this for a while. RipIt4Me uses DVD Decrypter as a front end to rip the DVD. It's able to break Sony's ARccOS protection by creating and importing a protected sectors list (psl). It's development...

Re: Ripping to Zune instructions - Easy as pie
Michael (This is all windows stuff.) For ripping I would recommend DVD Shrink. It is the easiest ripping program out there but it can't read everything. I have used DVD43 and it works most of the time but not always. If DVD Shrink can't read the DVD using it in conjunction with DVD Shrink may work. ...

According to the article you have to have either: 1. an mp4 with H.264 and AAC or 2. a vob with h.264 and AC3. You said you have an mp4 with AC3. Try the recode again as an mp4 with AAC and see it that works. Can't the PS3 play DVD's directly? I'm assuming that that you cant play it because of the i...

Found this on the Zune site: http://www.zune.net/en-us/products/zune30gb/specs.htm If you're not sure what any of this means this is what I would recommend... 1. Select source 2. Select destination with either the mp4 or m4v file extension. 3. Output Settings - use an H.264 for video, AAC for audio,...

I guess I have to explain a little bit. I am a quality freak and don't want a patch of two previous encodes. I was looking for a way to get the two disks combined into one and have MediaFork be able to read, understand, and encode from the concatenated vobs and reauthored ifos. The problems I had in...

Interesting, handbrake requires the information files (.ifo's) and can't directly read the video object files (.vob's) that the video, audio, and subtitle tracks are stored in. This isn't a problem in itself as IFOEdit can be used to create the ifo's from a vob file. Here is what I did: 1. Ripped th...

You will most likely find problems with doing this. The end of the first disk (or the beginning of the second disk, I can't remember which) has some video frames that have no audio attached. This has produced an audio skew in the part of the movie from the second disk as other encoding programs I ha...

AVC\XviD comparisons
I tried HandBrake about a year ago when iPod video bitrate was maxed at 768kbps with 320x240 and was very unhappy with the quality of the encode. I was, therefore, uninterested in buying the video iPod as I was looking at it as a portable video player with the iPod AV Connection Kit and a projector ...
