Thanks everyone for the support on this. I've got a solid set of recommendations to track down the problem. What I've done so far is to limit the heat - I took my computer off of "high performance" and I've been running the conversions with my laptop on its end - so it has open air on both...

Thank you very much. Reassuring to get two similar answers. Sounds easiest to run the encodes with lower CPU dedication to make sure the computer isn't working too hard. I can also position it on the desk to enhance cooling. I've never opened up a laptop before so I'll try other stuff before I try d...

I am on a PC, running 32-bit Vista. I have been transferring DVD's to my harddrive using both DVD Decrypter and DVDFab in order to convert them for iPod touch. I have tried converting directly from an individual *.VOB and by transferring the whole DVD to the harddrive and selecting the correct files...
