Re: Color saturation changes during playback

I haven't tried that. I re-ran the encode, and it behaved the same. I'll try without QSV and see if it changes the result.

Color saturation changes during playback

I'm using Handbrake for the first time in several years. I transcoded an MKV ripped from one my Blu-ray Discs. During playback, scenes begin somewhat desaturated, missing some red. After a second or two, the color shifts and they're properly saturated. Sometimes, it looks like a like green band is a...

Thanks for the tips. Unmodified AppleTV settings give the same results. Is this typical for H.264 encoding? General images (regular scenes with people, soft edges) looks good. But any high-contrast portion is strongly aliased: FOX logo, car grills, Tweed jackets, roofs, etc. [EDIT] Indeed, it was a ...

Strong banding in "high quality" encode -- is this

Initial experiments with Handbrake are giving me mixed results -- and maybe I need my expectations for MP4 encoding recalibrated. What I expect to be high-quality conversions have strong banding (Moire patterns, suggesting aliasing), and I'm wondering if this if normal? I can't find it discussed in ...

I'm sorry if my online tone has lacked grace. I don't mean to tear HandBrake or any of the developers or support team down. Despite our differing opinions, the HB guidance from jbrjake has been very helpful; likewise comments from hawkman. Put this this in the "What is it" and "Quick ...

As a first-time user, I'll add that another high-value help to n00bs, that doesn't require developer effort, is to provide basic tutorials and FAQ info. This was part of what stymied me: the critical, first-time user HB docs are not helpful. I'm sure as I dig deeper, I'll find info that's useful; bu...

I'm a new Handbrake user, and haven't actually successfully converted a DVD yet (some confusion over the ripping process which has now been clarified for me). What is immediately missing, as a Handbrake n00b, are a broader library of presets. Daunted by the interface, I went straight to the presets...

If you're looking at a watch-once-and-delete situation, you may want to consider using one of the mpeg-4 codecs instead of x264, and throwing a lot of bitrate at it. it'll be much quicker, but the video quality at the same bitrate can't hold a candle to x264's output. If you give it a target size o...

DaveF, the AppleTV preset is close to your needs, if space isn't too much of a concern. In general, higher bitrate leads to greater video quality at the expense of hard drive space. Check the "2-pass" box if you're willing to approximately double your encoding time for a significant incre...

Heh. Well, you've discovered the problem with the process - everyone has different requirements. Some need it fast, others can afford to take more time for better quality video. Some people are more concerned about storage space than others. Some people want what they play on their computer to also...

I suppose; I just knew that Handbrake was highly recommended for DVD conversion and I was in a rush. But looking at the Handbrake "what it is" summary, I find: http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/wiki/IsIsnt "HandBrake is a GPL'd multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 converter." ...

That's right, I'm using HB to rip the DVD as well, from the MBP internal drive. I've got MactheRipper, but thought HB was an all-in-one tool during my first attempts. This makes much more sense now. Hope to try it out soon. Thanks. :) It Clearly states in the summary that this is not an "all-i...

Thanks. The "no audio" problem resembles my problem, particularly the low CPU utilization (I was getting < 10%). Sounds like I need to try a separate ripper.

First time Handbrake user, on a new MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz 15", and I seem to have hit this problem with the very first DVD I tried to rip: Finding Nemo . It was getting < 1 fps, reporting 36+ hours to complete, and my CPU utilization was < 10%. And the DVD drive was "squeaking" like it ...

< 1fps on new MacBook Pro

I'm a new Mac owner and also a first time Handbrake user. From my experience with AutoGK on the PC, I expected ripping a DVD to be a pretty speedy process. However, I'm running a brand new 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro, ripping Finding Nemo set using HB-iPod defaults, and it's reporting 0.2 fps and a completi...
