Re: shimmer/flicker effect
Are you DVDs PAL, 50FPS? If you use MakeMKV to make a 1:1 copy of the titles on the DVD, you can step through individual frames of the video by, for example, playing them back with VLC. In VLC, enable 'advanved controls' from the 'view' menu on the toolbar, and using the 'frame by frame' button that...

Re: V1.7.1 and .2 - Audio not supported on Bravio TV
From your failed log, the fallback encoder is av_aac. There is no fallback encoder on the sucessful log. I'd guess that your TV doesn't understand AAC audio. If you opened the output files in MediaInfo, you'd be able to see which encoder was used on the audio. Did the preset change between 1.6.1 and...

Re: Mac Mini M2 Pro performance
In previous discussions i had here and over at MakeMKV i thought bitrate was more important? bitrate is important, all else being equal. I've got some DVD mpeg2 rips which are 5.5mb/s and they're only 720x576 SD. I've got a UHD rip which is 60.8mb/s but and those are 3840x2160. 20times the pixels, ...

Re: Handbrake fails overnight (avformatMux: track 0, av_interleaved_write_frame failed with error 'Invalid argument')
Fair point. I'm not so adept at reading Handbrake's logs these days, I noticed both logs mention Intel Media SDK hardware and QSV decoders.
Things seem to start going wrong for the OP at 01:05:25. A problem decoding the source?
I wonder if remuxing it with MKVmerge/MKV Toolnix?

Believe this is broken Intel drivers? Same issue as described here.

Re: Settings for Fringe Bluray
Handbrake is an encoder/transcoder, it's not a disc ripper. A long time ago Handbrake did a fair job of ripping discs, but it was never intended to do that. I suggest using MakeMKV to copy the episodes from the Blu-Rays. You'll end up with a 1:1 copy of the video and can pick which audio and subtitl...

Re: Unable to read DVD
Handbrake does not decrypt DVDs. You'd need to rip the titles you want to transcode first. MakeMKV is a good choice for doing that. Open the file that MakeMKV generates with Handbrake.

While X264 and X265 might not make use more than 8/12-ish cores, more cores are certainly useful for NLMeans denoising.

I nearly always take MKVs produced from MakeMKV as my source for Handbrake, so I might be way off here, but is your source encrypted/copy protected?

Re: Encoded video terrible color and sharpness
It's not a problem I experience, but the description of it is so similar to the two Issues on git hub I figures it must be related. The fix says "filters (decomb, denoise, detelecine, lapsharp, nlmeans, unsharp) were all setting color_range to the source color_range after it had already been co...

Your source is not 10,000kb/s.
From your encode log.

It seems both encodes were done at a CRF of 22. From your logs. 4K encode... x265 [info]: Rate Control / qCompress : CRF-22.0 / 0.60 1080 encode... x265 [info]: Rate Control / qCompress : CRF-22.0 / 0.60 Which is why it's weird that they are so close to the same size. It's just contradictory to you...

Re: How do we rip without transcoding?
Handbrake isn't a ripper. It can't do anyting with an encrypted, DRM, copy protected source. From "About Handbrake" in the documentation... "Applications such as AnyDVD HD for Windows and MakeMKV for Linux, Mac, and Windows can create copies of DVD and Blu-ray discs that HandBrake can...
