Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***

Based on the top post from Handbrake, generally, what are we looking at time wise transcoding in high profile over normal? I've always used High Profile (but 720p output) so its length is "normal" for me. A typical encode would take about 2 hours on my Mac Pro (quad core, 6 GB) but my 108...

Re: *** AppleTV 3 and the New iPad (Presets) ***

Based on the top post from Handbrake, generally, what are we looking at time wise transcoding in high profile over normal? I know this is impossible to tell since everyone has a different system, but generally what multiple has everyone seen from normal to high profile? 2x, 3x, 4x as long? Could any...

Re: Retaining DTS through MKV to ProRes conversion

Because I need to transcode it into prores for FCP, to make the video editable. I cannot strait edit the mkv file in FCP, and editing the reference files requires massive rendering in the sequence. It is best to start from a prores file in FCP since it is doesn't require rendering in the timeline, a...

Retaining DTS through MKV to ProRes conversion

Hello, I am transcoding an mkv (blu-ray rip) to prores to edit in FCP and export it out for the ATV. I have been creating quicktime reference files in QT7pro, opening them in compressor and transcoding them in prores 422 hq. When opening the reference file in QT, the audio shows as DTS 7 channel Per...

m4v missing duration and wont play in iTunes but fine in QT

Hey all, Having a little problem here. I am trying to transcode a large file, 11h 17m using Handbrake's Apple TV 2 profile. I have tried twice and get the same results in iTunes, it shows no duration/length and iTunes cannot play it (you see a quick black screen then back to the library view), thoug...

iTunes wont play 6.9gb video, Quicktime will

Hello, Is there a limit on how big or long a video in iTunes can be? I have an m4v that is 6.9gb, about 11 hours and 26 minutes and it wont play. Also wont show a video bit rate or time in the Movies section. I used Handbrake Apple TV 2 profile to encode, with large file size checked. I am using a m...

Re: Is it possible Handbrake could encode a DVD as one video

Handbrake can't do this, you can try mkvmerge to accomplish it though. I had some issues with mkvmerge but through them found something that ended up working very nicely. It is a little older program, but it was able to combine all the vow files I wanted together and then I can use handbrake to con...

Is it possible Handbrake could encode a DVD as one video?

Hey everyone, Curious if anyone has been in this situation. I have some DVDs with lots of little extras that I would like to encode. Naturally, I could mpeg streamclip them into a FCP format, splice them all together for my Apple TV, but I was curious if Handbrake might be able to take all the Title...

Re: Apple TV 2 Profile m4vs dont work on 1st gen ATV

Thought I would let everyone know the option above, the HDMI to component out device worked like a charm.

Kind of nice too since the new ATV is quite quick and has netflix too. So I don't have to re-encode everything and I get some little extras.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Re: Apple TV 2 Profile m4vs dont work on 1st gen ATV

Found a solution. Refurbished ATV2 with one of these http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-RCA-component-AV-Converter/dp/B002WBOQPU Comments on amazon confirm it will work. I would rather retain the quality and save myself days if not weeks of encoding time here. A little more than I wanted to spend, but at th...

Re: Apple TV 2 Profile m4vs dont work on 1st gen ATV

Curious, would just installing the decorder card work, without XBMC? Or do you need XBMC to use the decoder card? All I really want is the ability to watch my movies and tv shows. As much as XBMC is nice, I am just looking for something lean and simple (even though XBMC is something I would definite...

Re: Apple TV 2 Profile m4vs dont work on 1st gen ATV

Do you think hacking the ATV and installing XBMC on it will fix my issue? All my videos are DVD quality, I dont have any HD content, so it just sucks that I need to rencode everything to the same quality.

Re: Apple TV 2 Profile m4vs dont work on 1st gen ATV

Is having the files in atv 2 an advantage? That is, do they look better? I am quite bummed because that is quite a lot of encoding and I might be prone to try and find a way to use the Apple TV 2 now, especially if the quality is worth it. I found the possibility of getting this HP hdmi to VGA adapt...

Apple TV 2 Profile m4vs dont work on 1st gen ATV

Hey all, I have been encoding my DVD collection using the Apple TV 2 profile. I bought a 1st gen ATV because my TV is a little older and does not have HDMI. When I attempt to play the videos on the TV, I get audio but no video and it basically screws the ATV, requiring me to reset it. I have plenty ...
