I ripped this movie with MTR 3.0 r14d as Main Feature --- but not the title MTR chooses by default. By default it picks one that truncates most chapters and gives you an hour and half or so movie. Pick the longer title and go. Try that.

Certanly not. I was only trying to find a way to preserve 16:9 Aspect Ratio for movies that are such in their original format. I appreciate your work here; you've put a lot of effort into this. But I'm curious about your movie list. The only one I've come across so far that's natively 1.78:1 (a 16:...

Perhaps all of his sources are 1.78:1, so it's an ideal match.

Or perhaps he doesn't care if the image is skewed --- and there are legions of HDTV owners for example who would rather have that than black bars under any circumstances.

Then let them know that on THAT forum, because ripping it in MTR is still the path you need to take.

In regards to 4:3 content, my advice is to not attempt to make it something it is not. So encode it as 640x480 (or whatever's close to that if minor cropping is necessary. This is where using the GUI is a plus ...) Leave any upscaling to hardware since it does it on the fly and there'd be no file si...

One Fine Day (the 1996 Pfeiffer/Clooney movie) --- With a Main Feature rip from MTR, HB borks the audio exactly at the ch.6/ch.7 transition as indicated when playing back the file. With a Full Disc rip from MTR, HB makes a complete encode of the main feature. Several PTS discontinuities are logged a...

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl I just did this one last week. Some details: Main Feature extraction, no foreign languages included, with MTR 3.0r14d on a G5 PowerMac. HandBrake Version 0.8.5b1 & the HB-AppleTV Preset with 2-pass added and anamorphic. DPLII audio track, 48k sample rate/16...

OK, you have a 2.35:1 source, and if it's at all recent, that DVD is most likely anamorphic. In other words they probably didn't shrink the whole image and postage-stamp the poor thing onto the DVD. So I'd do a fresh Handbrake job (been looking for an excuse to use that phrase, thanks) on that DVD a...

It would be nice if there was a way to run the HB software at a lower processor stage than what it's currently using ... Completely unnecessary. Hi Scott. If you're referring to the current release, 0.8.5b1 (around here the details matter ...) I don't think it'll work for you --- it doesn't make nice with 10.3 because some features were added that require 10.4.

I can't speak to the issue of the incorrect icon however.

Yeah, if the DVD came straight from a camcorder or was transferred to DVD privately from the church's videographer, all bets are off. Something like that might not conform quite to spec even though it plays fine in a DVD player. Software rippers and DVD players approach things from a different persp...

Question: Can you clarify please "it set the file resolution at 720x400" --- was that the Output size or the Anamorphic Output size?

In other words, did you choose anamorphic encoding and if so was 720x400 what the size was when played back?

I'm up for trying to patch HandBrake's copy of libmp4v2 to create audio tracks of type 'ac-3', in order to make HandBrake create mp4 files with AC3 audio passthru. Anyone still interested in H.264 instead of x.264? h264 is the standard that x264 implements nothing else. Perhaps my point was too subtle. HB and VH use open-source tools, referred to as x.264, to make H.264-compliant files. Apple (and elgato) use Quicktime to make H.264-compliant files. The forme...
