Thanks. Configuring the defaults then creating the preset worked.

Preview not auto updating deinterlace settings

Version 6398svn x86_64 (2014091101) OS X 10.8.5 The preview window is not automatically updated with the deinterlace options selected in picture settings after title change. Quit Handbrake without confirmation

An option in preferences to quit handbrake without having to confirm would be nice. This option would be beneficial when power is loss to the computer and a battery backup starts to run low on power. OS X would then be able to shutdown properly.

Re: Post Your "Best Settings" here and Why.

My point was that if CABAC is off, then having Trellis on does nothing. You need CABAC for Trellis, right?

Performance enhanced?

I have been playing a few old encodes (e.g. The Incredibles) that had stuttering problems and after updating my AppleTV it appears they are gone. I have not watched these videos in a while, so maybe I forgot exactly where the stuttering was... Can anyone else confirm with some known stutterers you m...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

AC3 in a mov container works! Here is how I did it: Open an existing mp4 (I used a handbrake rip) file in QT player. Open an ac3 soundtrack in QT player. Paste the ac3 soundtrack into the mp4 file Export the movie as a self contained Quicktime movie. Import the movie in iTunes. I seriously doubt th...

Also note that the last ~20 minutes of the movie (region 1 disc) are 29.976 fps/interlaced where the beginning is 23.976 progressive.

I have encoded a few TV shows inside MPEG Streamclip (which is said to have a better deinterlacer) using an x264 codec and they look like crap as well. Interlaced video sucks, it will never look as good as progressive.

Another reason to encode at >512 kbs is for future iPods, which will most likely have screen widths twice the size of the current iPod.

If the Apple TV is level-compliant, I'd recommend bitrate=2500, vbv-maxrate=2500, and vbv-bufsize as 1708 (corresponding to level 3.1). This should prevent overwhelming bitrate spikes (but again, only if the Apple TV actually adheres to the H.264 specification). Rodney Do I have to change the level...

I'm not sure if anyone has tried this but I turned off Cabac and the shutter problem went away. I even had the bitrate up to 5000kbs. I was vary happy, since I love using handbrake and didn't care for the other programs. Does anyone know the advantages of Cabac? I will confirm with the 'Cat in Tree...

subme can always be increased without stress to the decoder - all it governs is accuracy. bitrate is, of course, another matter that I discussed earlier. Rodney I guess the question is whether the stutter is because of CABAC, the short bursts of high bitrates (>5000 kbs), or both. So, either the er...

Maybe CABAC/B-Frames should be removed from the Apple TV preset and instead the bitrate and subme could be bumped up?

If people what to use CABAC and B-Frames, they can make their own presets. Its not HB's fault the AppleTV has problems, it should not take the wrap because of some preset.

Watched an hour of The Incredibles (x264, 3500 kbs) last night. I had stutter at the Cat in Tree scene, but the audio never stopped or went of sync, the scene was only 10 sec and the ATV recovered gracefully and kept on playing. It happened with a synced or a steamed file and is consistently there. ...

Try the Raiders of the Lost Ark at 5000kbs. I bet it will have the same problem as any movie encoded with Handbrake. No matter what movie I encode with Streamclip or VisualHub at 5000kbs, it will never have the problem. I believe it's a program issue with HB and I hope there is a fix here soon. I j...

Yes it is very normal. There is a G5 optimized version floating around (search for it) that has updated x264 code and will decrease your encoding time substantially.

I use a G5 iMac as well, rip always with MTR full disc mode, and have yet to experience audio drop.

When I open a folder in Handbrake that I created with Mac the Ripper, it sometimes does not show all the titles, so I can not rip the movie itself for my ipod.

With some titles it works.

any ideas?

This might be an Intel/PPC issue. Are you using an Intel machine? I use a PPC. Ok, so I stand corrected, but understand that I was trying to be helpful, not accusatory. Secondly, now that I know that the straight preset works, here is my question.
