7.1 audio for Apple TV 4K possible?

I know Apple TV 4K support 7.1 channel decoding. Previously, only AC3 (5.1 channel) would work. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts/suggestions on how encode 7.1 channel audio for ATV 4K? I tried using CoreAudio 7.1 as codec for audio track 2, but it's not coming through. I'm only getting Ste...

ATV 3 and Home Sharing - Movies load, but won't play

Hi everyone, I've been using AppleTV for the past five years, upgrading over the years from the previous versions that could only play 720p content to the latest unit (3rd Gen), that can play 1080p movies, and decode at level 4.0 (25Mbps max). I have an iMac with four USB drives connected, holding s...

Re: Blu-Ray Out of Sequence Scenes

Hi guys, I tried ripping Cabin In The Woods Blu-Ray. I tried title #1, title #35, and title which lists 00461.MPLS (all referenced in replies above). None of these is the correct playlist. In each instance, scenes seem to appear in random from start to finish. Not sure why this Blu-Ray has over 40 t...

How to specify max bitrate?

I encode videos with Average Bitrate (kbps) set to 19000 for 1080p movies. However, certain movies with scenes where a lot of fine-detail is present (i.e. scenes with sparks, etc.) tend to freeze on my ATV (1080p version). When I evaluate the movie under Quicktime Pro, I see the bitrate spikes up we...

Re: Blu-Ray ripping with forced subtitles

Hi Guys, I'm sorry to resurrect this thread, but with the release of 0.9.8 with PGS subtitle support, I am still having issues. I decode my Blu-Ray discs with AnyDVD, and end-up with the whole file structure of .m2ts files. I've been doing it this way for over two years, and it's worked perfectly fi...

Did you accept donations previously? Darn it, am I mistaking it for wikipedia? I am too young to be losing my mind.

Thank you for your kind reply :-)

Blu-Ray ripping with forced subtitles

I'm a long time user of Handbrake, and make regular donations to the team for all their hard work. However, after years of use, one thing (and I'm sure it's probably been mentioned before) that Handbrake lacks is the ability to encode Blu-Ray .m2ts files with forced subtitles. About half of all movi...

Re: 0.9.6 with AC3 Passthru for MP4?

Gotcha. However, selecting AC3 ffmpeg, I'm still forced to choose a mixdown. I don't want the audio transcoded to Dolby Surround, or any of the other deprecated options. in 0.9.5 selecting AC3 Passthru worked, even if the source was DTS. With 0.9.6, it just defaults to DTS Passthru, which, with Appl...

0.9.6 with AC3 Passthru for MP4?

Hey guys! I'm glad to have used Handbrake over the past year. I've made a donation for the time and effort the team has put into this wonderful tool. I've used Handbrake 0.9.5 up until now on my WinXP machine. I use AnyDVD to decode Blu-Ray discs, and rip them directly with Handbrake as MP4 files, w...

Fight Club Blu-Ray Problem

Brand new blu-ray, not a smudge or scratch on it. First I used AnyDVD to extract all files, then tried using Handbrake to re-encode the m2ts files. No good. Handbrake crashes as it reads the titles. I tried this on my PC and Mac version of Handbrake, same result. So I tried a different approach. I u...

DTS as AC3 passthru in M4Vs?

While ripping Blu-Rays into M4V files, I select the 5.1 channel DTS track, and in Handbrake I'm given the option of embedding that audio track as AC3 passthru. Is that a bug, or does Handbrake convert the DTS into AC3 and then attach that as passthru? I know for DTS sound, I should encode in MKV, bu...

Re: Bluray Ripping & Encoding (A Total Mac Solution)

I hear ya. My other issue is that I'm transcoding The Godfather from the Blu-Ray 1080p down to 720p (there's only grain, and not much detail retained in 1080p). But this is throwing the subtitles out of whack, as they are rendered in 1080p (in the original MKV). I've given up on the process for now,...

Re: Bluray Ripping & Encoding (A Total Mac Solution)

I'm following this tutorial, and everything is working great, except that I can't get the forced subtitles (foreign audio) to work. I'm ripping The Godfather (Blu-Ray), and in MakeMKV see two English Tracks. They seem identical. I've made an MKV with both of them checked, with one of them checked, a...

[Future] M2TS (Blu-Ray) rip with Subtitles

I use AnyDVD to decrypt a Blu-Ray disc, and use Handbrake to directly convert the M2TS file into an M4V. Chapters, multiple audio tracks, everything looks and works great, except that I'm unable to use Forced Only (or any other) subtitled track. There are other methods, which involve separate subtit...

Re: Selective Subtitles?

Darn. So subtitles aren't supported on Blu-Rays at all? I've just re-ripped all three episodes of The Godfather, with Foreign Audio Search, Forced, Burned in, as you suggested. Each took roughly 24 hours to rip, and now I see no subtitles appear anyway. Ripping blu-rays is getting way too complicate...

Selective Subtitles?

I've recently ripped movies like The Godfather, and realized (while watching the ripped version) that during scenes when they speak Italian, no subtitles appear. However, in the DVD release, subtitles would appear ONLY during scenes when characters spoke Italian. How do I do this when ripping movies...

Re: Apple TV - 5.1 channel playback

I'm sorry, I tried searching but didn't find any posts of use. If I need to encode two audio tracks, it sounds like that will make apple TV happy (for now), but is this a futureproof method? Will future versions of apple TV, or other media hubs be smart enough to choose the 5.1 channel sound over th...

Apple TV - 5.1 channel playback

I'm ripping my DVDs with AC3 Passthru audio, and am considering purchasing Apple TV to allow me to play these rips on my big screen TV. However, can I expect the 5.1 channel audio to be passed through Apple TV onto my receiver? When I play these rips on my Mac, VLC downmixes the sound to just Stereo...
