Re: Wrong placement and size of burned subtitles
Its been a long time since I have checked into this bug report. A fix seems to be committed to version 1.1, yeah! In my Nov. 1, 2016 posting I mentioned subtitles from "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" seem to me to be placed too high into the frame. I just pick up that DVD from my local li...

Re: Wrong placement and size of burned subtitles
Ever since I started using HandBrake I don't crop DVD encodings, because I prefer subtitles to show up in the black bar at the bottom of the frame. "The Revenant" DVD can't be that usual. The link below shows an image of two frames from "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes". The left ...

Re: Wrong placement and size of burned subtitles
The content comes from ripping "The Revenant" DVD to my hard drive. I don't know anything about IFO files and how screwed up they can be while still be able to playback, which the REV files can do. It seems to me DVD producers tend to leave junk laying around. I encoded the video 6 times b...

Re: Wrong placement and size of burned subtitles
The link below is to a zip file that contains all the test files that I used to recreate the problem. The zip file is 394MB. Once unpacked the "REV" directory contains the movie shorten to 5 mins, by using a tool called VobBlanker. I dragged and dropped REV onto HandBrake to create the &qu...

Re: Wrong placement and size of burned subtitles
"what looks like a bug?" All I can say is click on the Microsoft One-Drive link I provided in my posting. It shows the difference in subtitle placement between the DVD playback versus the Handbrake encoded video. "I haven't been able to reproduce your problem." I first noticed th...

A small request
Could the "Elapsed" time shown on the status line be left up after the encode is complete? Its no big deal. Thanks.

Wrong placement and size of burned subtitles
I encode a ripped DVD where I burn in a "forced" subtitle track. The subtitles were not placed or sized correctly versus playing back the original ripped DVD. I do "not" crop the video (720x480) so on playback I see black bars on the top and bottom. Long ago I remember HandBrake ...

Don't encode first and last part of video
Is there some extra option I can add to Handbrake 0.9.9 to make it skip encoding the first and last minute of a video?

Re: [Implemented] Encoding time
What a pleasant surprise, thanks s55. Its been 2 months since I checked this forum, so it was nice to see you had a change of heart and implemented my little suggestion.

Re: [Future] Encoding time
Woo Hoo! My suggestion will be implemented at some future date. I'm so excited, lets break out the champagne and party like the Egyptians! OK, I'm easily satisfied.

Re: Encoding time
Right, but you run the risk of comparing Apples to Oranges with your proposal. If the true purpose is to figure out whether settings increase/decrease encode time, fps is a much better metric as it doesn't depend on the length of the source. My true purpose for this feature is when I come back to t...

Re: Encoding time
Where would this "Time for Encode" label go. I think you're thinking it would go at the bottom where all the other stuff is. So what happens if you have a queue of items? It can't go there because there needs to be a new progress bar there for the next video. Only the last video could hav...

Re: Encoded video longer than original
OK then. IIRC MediaInfo will look at the timestamps, in which case your file is 179288 frames, 2:04:37.769 at 23.976 fps. I'm pretty sure there's nothing to worry about - while it seems odd that the IFO file contains an incorrect duration for the title, it does sound like that's where the actual is...

Re: Encoding time
You can get roughly the same thing by just doing the math on the activity log timestamps. A few more steps, but would let you know how long it's taking. If you say so, but my suggestion should take only a little time to implement. At least my suggestion has yet to be rejected. Besides Its useful in...

Re: Encoded video longer than original
Don't look at the "Play Time" field. Instead, check the Video Stream Length and Audio Stream Length. OK, had to use MediaInfo Debug|Advanced mode, which showed the video being 02:04:37.769 long and the audio being 02:04:37.775 long. But I don't see how that helps me in understanding the t...

Re: Encoded video longer than original
MediaInfo says the MKV file is 2h 4mn long. It seems MediaInfo doesn't display seconds when the video is over an hour. So Handbrake found more frames than what the DVD listed in its IFO file. Is this a common occurrence for standard def DVDs? I'm new to Handbrake and found the time difference in all...

Re: Encoded video longer than original
How are you determining that one is longer than the other? Using a stopwatch isn't a valid method because it doesn't isolate whether the player or the encoder is at fault. Looking at a time code printed by the player would have the same problem. The only real way to tell would be to look at the fir...

Encoded video longer than original
I have been testing some ripped standard-def DVDs using HandBrake 9.5, MKV container, high profile. Each of the DVDs contained a movie around 2 hours in length when played using VLC. The encoded MKV movies are between 7 and 9 seconds longer than the original, when played back using VLC. Why is the e...

[Implemented] Encoding time
I'm using svn3719. The status line show "Time Remaining" for the encode. Could the status line include "Time Elapsed", and when the encoding is finished "Time for Encode". This should be a really simple thing to add, and I think a lot of folks would like to know how lon...
