Re: Matching my x264 Settings with H265

mduell, you're right, I screwed up.

Rodeo, after doing a lot of testing I think I'm better off just sticking to x264. While I love the fast encoding time and the compression of H265, it just doesn't seem to produce the same quality as what I'm getting with x264.

Cheers both of you.

Matching my x264 Settings with H265

Happy Holidays and Happy (early) New Years HB folks! I have been using HardBrake for many years now and have always used x264 and generally been very happy with my results. I recently started playing with H265 and I would say the output is VERY close to my x264 outputs but it seems just slightly mor...

Re: Understanding Cropping

Interesting that you point out the modulus setting. I've read a lot of different opinions on that.

That aside, is it normal for a top and bottom to have different values? It would seem to me they should be the same.

Understanding Cropping

Sometimes when I load up a file the automatic cropping will be off by one on either the top or bottom. I trust Handbrake's intelligence but it seems really odd to me. This screen shot will give an example: https://imgur.com/a/qbfp6 Using the example above, what is the proper thing to do here? Should...

I did see that, but it will be set in an open space and out of the way of obstruction. I'm assuming they are built well enough to handle the heat.

Re: Mini PC for transcoding

Remember that mini-PCs are going to have cooling issues when run at 100% CPU for long periods of time. Their target market is people who need momentary bursts of speed. When you're doing QSV decoding AND encoding, that's not really critical, because the QSV hardware is quite efficient, power-wise. ...

Mini PC for transcoding

I am looking at picking up a mini PC to do my handbrake transcoding on. I want something small, fast and quiet that I can throw in a corner and forget about. Re: svn6775 is not compatible with old user-made presets

Yup, same issue here. Upgraded to svn6783 and my user presets are all gone. I noticed a file called user_presets.xml.archive.4488 (assumingly these are my old presets at my user_presets.xml was no longer there). I recreated one of the presets and it made a new file called user_presets.json. I'm assu...

Re: Handbrake not keeping DVD width size

Still confused on this Blu-ray I have, even if I set the Cropping to Custom and put it all 0's it still only allows me to set the width to 1904.

Re: Handbrake not keeping DVD width size

I've never seen this happen before for anything I've converted. One episode be cropped and not another. This seemed to have just started happening with the last few night builds.

Re: Handbrake not keeping DVD width size

Hi John, I always keep the crop set to Automatic. In the case of the Blu-ray I just tried it show's all zero's. For the DVD (listed above), the first episode that stays at 720 shows Top 4, Left 4, Right 6 and Bottom 0. The third episode that forces to 704 shows Top 0, Left 4, Right 6 and Bottom 0. I...

Re: Handbrake not keeping DVD width size

Amendment, I now see the same problem with Blu-rays. It's defaulting to 1904 and will not let you change it to 1920.

Handbrake not keeping DVD width size

I load up a DVD, let’s say an anime, choose the first episode and it will show the width of 720. I’ll go to the next episode and it will show the width of 720. I’ll choose the third episode and it will show the width of 704. If I try and manually change it to 720 it will revert back to 704? I’m seei...

Re: No Japanese Audio with Gamera 3

Thank you Rodeo and JackNF, that's really interesting. I didn't realize there was such an issue. I did watch it, but I watched dubbed (as I was watching it with my girlfriend). I'll fire it up and watch it subbed to see if that's the case.

No Japanese Audio with Gamera 3

I've been trying to encode Gamera 3 with the Japanese Audio DTS 5.1 track and for some reason it will not accept it; I end up with a MKV file that has the subtitles but no audio track. It does take the Japanese AC3 track without a problem. I did not have any issues with Gamera 1 or 2 with the DTS tr...

OpenCL.dll missing

Hello all, I'm seeing a lot of talk about OpenCL being implemented so I'm guessing my issue is related to it but I want to throw it out there in case anyone else is having the same issue and if there is a fix it can be shared. I'm running Handbrake Nightly builds on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server t...
