Re: A Collection of Builds (one new, rest from previous decade!)

So for something like this, QSV is a huge improvement. But again, the same story with QSV/VCE vs regular CPU based encoding. 346,721 kilobytes for the CPU encode, 721,559 kilobytes for the QSV encode. HandBrake 1.3.3 (2020061300) OS: Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.19042.0 CPU: Intel(R) Atom(TM) x7-Z8700 ...

Re: A Collection of Builds (one new, rest from previous decade!)

I finally got the Atom x7-z8700 to finish an encode. Good news, it pulled 12 watts during the encode. Bad news, it took right at an hour for x264 and pulled 0.01 kWh. Here's the log, QSV to follow, I may not attempt H265 on this thing. That being said, I've been a Handbrake user forever. I started o...

Re: A Collection of Builds (one new, rest from previous decade!)

And here's the 980X system with H265. I used 0.22 kWh for the test. Wattage hovered around 330 Watts, CPU usage wasn't pegged out at 100%, it was usually in the high 80% range with this, unlike x264, which implies there is something that may not scale as well to multiple cores, or it lacks the instr...

Re: A Collection of Builds (one new, rest from previous decade!)

I'm back again. Life sometimes gets busy. Anyway, I'm back to report on my 10-11 year old machine. I built a 980X based system back when the Core i7 series was new. Here's the data: HandBrake 1.3.3 (2020061300) OS: Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.19042.0 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 980 @ 3.33GHz Ram: ...

Re: A Collection of Builds (one new, rest from previous decade!)

x264 encoding on the above pulled 96-100 Watts the entire time. Call it ~98 Watts. Use 0.01 kWh. H265 encoding on the above pulled 100-105 Watts to start with, then dropped down to 83 Watts later in the encode. I used 0.01 kWh. Now to switch to the AMD VCE options: x264 encoding using AMD VCE pulls ...

A Collection of Builds (one new, rest from previous decade!)

I've been wanting to build a new machine, but with all the GPU shortages, I found a deal on a local HP Prebuilt for me to use the 5700G APU from, eventually. Anyway, I figured it'd be fun to compare all my other machines against this one. This is a small prebuilt that I got for $550 at a chain store...

Re: How to increase performance?

The OpenCL work is not done by us. It'll likely land in HandBrake eventually, but it's a matter of months (or longer), not weeks. I thought not. I was thinking that you guys "codecs" (I know, not the right term), but x264 and ffmpeg and the like have to support it first correct? Thank you...

Re: How to increase performance?

Been a while, I know, but here's an update. I've since upgraded the system above to an i7 980x with a Corsair liquid cooler, the HX100 I think it is). I have seen a remarkable decrease in encoding times. I'll look around for the sample video files to convert and play with and get back with you on th...

Re: How to increase performance?

I have switched to x264 which has improved things a bit. Currently researching a water cooling set up and some hopefully reasonable over clocks. Really eyeing a 980x, not just for this, but that's a big chunk of change...

How to increase performance?

Ladies and gentlemen, newb here to the boards, but I've been using HandBrake since about '04. (wonderful piece of software, you guys rock!) I've recently built a great i7 based system, and HandBrake really screams on it, I get about 30 FPS using the iPad preset on Blu Rays ripped with MakeMKV. My qu...
