What is an optimal workflow on Mac for MPEG TS to M4V with trim/cut?
I have MPEG Transport Streams taken from a Human PVR that I can re-encode to M4V to play on my Apple TV. A typical HB log shows (when loading): [22:40:02] file is MPEG Transport Stream with 192 byte packets offset 4 bytes [22:40:02] Found the following PIDS [22:40:02] Video PIDS : [22:40:02] 0x7d1 t...

Subtitles from a PVR recording are cropped
I use Handbrake 0.10.2 to reencode stuff I recored on my PVR to mp4 so I can watch them elsewhere in the house. I don't do that often (last time was a year ago or so), so my experience with HB is limited. I am running OS X 10.10.5. I've been transforming a recorded movie. The original looks like thi...

Trouble with 4193: no video produced, just audio
I haven't used HB for a long time. I just updated my svn copy and built it with Xcode (most recent version). What happens is that the percentage pointer for progress is not updated, but the encode finishes after a while. Th resulting m4v file has all the audio, but only a still of the first frame as...

DVD to ATV2 workflow with soft subtitles?
I have searched and read everything on the forums I could find on this issue. I have kind of a summing-up question: I would really like to rip my DVDs and put them in an iTunes account for viewing on my ATV2 including subtitles that can be turned off. My wife and I like to watch stuff we can underst...

Re: Understanding anamorphic
Thanks. I understand that Anamorphic Loose is better at encoding because of the mod 16 character of the encoding and with hardly anything lost of the picture, so that is what I am using now. So, I am actually now using standard ATV2 setting with only Decomb turned on because this is interlaced mater...

What do these x264 warning signify?
While running an encode, I noticed these warnings: x264 [warning]: --psnr used with psy on: results will be invalid! x264 [warning]: --tune psnr should be used if attempting to benchmark psnr! what do these mean? [00:24:29] file is MPEG Transport Stream with 192 byte packets offset 4 bytes [00:24:29...

Understanding anamorphic
I am baffled by all this anamorphic/nonsquare pixels/telecine/etc stuff. My material is often stuff recorded on my PVR, which I want to watch on my ATV. Stuff on the PVR comes from the cable company and it comes in different flavours: [23:32:08] scan: 10 previews, 1920x1080, 25.000 fps, autocrop = 0...

Re: 0.9.5. cannot handle what 0.9.4 can
I have downloaded the latest HB and built it after removing the scrambled bits test from the code. This works. I can now use (the adapted) HB 0.9.5!

Re: 0.9.5. cannot handle what 0.9.4 can
It would be brilliant if the check of scrambling bits could be disabled (maybe a warning instead of not working). It would open up 0.95 for me.

Re: Stuttery movement on a panning scene
Yes, that is me. I would gladly have some tool that let met use HB 0.95 on the TS files with scrambling control bits on, but I do not have a Windows environment, just Mac. Is there a Mac tool that can clean these out for me? EDIT: Rodeo mentioned ffmpeg in copy mode as a solution in another thread. ...

Re: Stuttery movement on a panning scene
1. You should post an encode log, there are people here, not me, who might see something that explains things, possibly 2. have you tried using cfr? I have in the past seen this behavior on certain client devices back in 0.9.4 timeframe Possibly due to the way vfr/cfr was handled in that version An...

Re: Stuttery movement on a panning scene
Post an encode log. I am sorry, should have done this in the first place and explain a bit more. 0.9.5 is not able to handle the file at all (it even fails to create a log file so I can only post here what it shows in the log view): 0.9.5 [17:12:57] hb_init: checking cpu count [17:12:57] hb_init: s...

Stuttery movement on a panning scene
I experience `stuttery' movement especially visible in a slow horizontal panning move. Instead of a smooth move (visible in VLC in the original ts stream file), in the HB result I see a slower move interceded with faster moves, around 6 a second creating a stuttery effect on what should be a smooth ...

SVN 3899 still cannot open the SD sample. It now also hangs on opening a larger .ts (stream) file which older versions could open. Anything I can add to help testing?

choppy audio (0.9.5 and 0.9.4) when creating mp4 from ts
I have a TS file that plays fine in VLC, but that results in choppy audio when converted by HB (both 0.9.4 and 0.9.5). Here is the activity log from the 0.9.5 run: [08:16:54] hb_init: checking cpu count [08:16:54] hb_init: starting libhb thread [08:16:54] macgui: Handbrake Version: 0.9.5 x86_64 (201...

Re: 0.9.5 creates choppy audio
this has started since upgrading to 0.9.5. While video is fine, audio is, the best description is 'stuttery'. a moment of audio, a moment of silence, a moment of audio, etc etc. Doens't matter what preset. Original file(s) are MakeMKV rips. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks for the help in...

If you don't need to preserve chapters, subtitles or multiple audio tracks, MPEG Streamclip. QuickTime Pro also works if you choose Movie to MPEG-4 in the Export menu, and set the video and audio formats to Pass thru in the Options. I've noticed problems with files edited with QT Pro this way. The ...

Slightly OT:How to cut/paste/splice on Mac without re-encode
I use HB to create .m4v files for my ATV (2nd generation). What I would really love to do is cut parts out, splice different m4v's together, create small clip from a longer fragment, etc, without having to re-encode as this takes a lot of time and degrades the quality. I can use QT to crop, but sele...
