Bug in GUI, when one doesn't first 'save' the dst filespec
So, it's been quite a while since I last used HandBrake. Today I downloaded a fresh copy (HandBrake-0.10.2-x86_64-Win_GUI) and tried to do some very simple transcodes from a couple of different .avi files that I had kicking around. I used the DEFAULT settings for EVERYTHING in HandBrake, on this lap...

On-screen text (aka 'Marquee' text)
The concept is to be able to 'burn-in' some ON-SCREEN text tokens during the transcode process. Some example tokens are a 'Title', the 'Duration' of the video-stream,and the 'Elapsed-time'. [Those latter two tokens produce an on-screen 'progress-meter', so that someone who joins watching the stream ...

Re: How to burn current-time/duration info during transcodin
No. For the time being, HandBrake has no text rendering ability whatsoever (aside from libass, which only handles ASS/SSA subtitles). A couple of months ago, I purchased my first tablet, which is Android based...the 7-inch "Nexus-7". One thing I use it for, is to stream (i.e. watch) movie...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
@GregiBoy: Ah, makes perfect sense now. Yes, I can imagine that from movie-DVD to movie-DVD, there
are many variations in the detail of the sub-titling tracks.
Thx for taking time to explain. Once again, the devil IS in the details.

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
Duh! Finally the light dawns on marblehead. The part I was missing is that these 'forced' sub-titles are in EACH SUB-TITLE TRACK! So, each track (might or might not) contain some that are flagged as FORCED, but most are not. And, we're simply specifying if we want ONLY the forced ones or all of them...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
Ok, at least now i'm MOSTLY back on the same wavelength. Whew! i.e. I'm totally willing to concede that I may be remembering incorrectly that I was EVER able to choose both Forced and Burned-in! I'm almost there, I think. So, I do understand that any given track would NOT HAVE TO contain any 'Forced...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
@Rodeo: Hmm...I thought I stated correctly what I want to do. But, I'll try again: I want to choose English sub-titles (VOB) to go along with the audio in English. (e.g. for hard-of-hearing ppl, or whatever). And, I want them 'burned-in'. (Thus when I stream the transcoded output on Veetle, English ...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
@GregiBoy: Hmm...not sure if you mean me or Flo...I assume me, since I most-recently replied before your post. Yes, I may (or may not) be making wrong assumptions. Yes, I understand that FORCED subtitles are authored by the original producers of a film (as Rodeo mentioned above). So, maybe YOU were ...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
@Flo: Right, so you agree with me that they are mutually exclusive. So, Linux edition is correct...they use radio-buttons. (Windows edition should switch from checkboxes to radio-buttons, so that users can perceive the mutual-exclusiveness of those two.) But, you are in error (in my view) about 'For...

Hmm...well, yes, I agree with the part that your certificate is valid. Meanwhile, tho, it's a bit of stretch to start telling us users that it's our problem. Sure, on some level, you can argue it doesn't seem to be your problem, in that you have a valid certificate. (Few if any users even know how t...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
Thanks for that clarification! ...the word 'only' WAS bothering me...I should have RTFM-ed! [What surprises/confuses me, tho, is that I'm thinking that on an earlier version, I WAS checking the 'Forced' checkbox, too, and was achieving what I wanted.] Was this a UI-change, where it used to be a comp...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
Hmm...ok, I was using this same version of Handbrake (i.e. 0.9.6) on this laptop, back when burning in subtitles DID work. So, I took an original media (that DID do a burn-in when I ran a transcode a couple of months ago.) This time, for a quicker test, I transcoded just chapters 24 and 25 of that s...

Re: Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
Yes, thanks. I do know about needing logs, which I'll do as I try to isolate the issue. Hmm...mediainfo tool shows: Writing application : HandBrake 0.9.6 2012022800 [Fwiw...right now, I'm seeing the issue on Win-7, version 0.9.6, 64-bit edition. Not sure yet, whether this is something that I only st...

Re: Found a 'fix' for RED https with a slash thru it...
And, now IE, under Win-7, is also showing the problem. It, too, responds somewhat differently to the condition: It says that it will show ONLY 'secure' content. Which implies that SOME stuff is coming across as 'secure', but other stuff isn't. This all means that YOU folks are NOT doing using your S...

Re: Found a 'fix' for RED https with a slash thru it...
One last extra bit of info (for whoever at Handbrake forums is still working this issue): I am able to reproduce the issue under one other browser on a different computer, namely 'IceWeasel', which runs on Linux and is from a codebase similar to Firefox. As before, I'm ONLY seeing this symptom on yo...

Re: Found a 'fix' for RED https with a slash thru it...
Sigh. I spoke too soon! It was green for a while, but now the RED slash is back, along with the warning asking whether you want to continue. (I answer yes, and continue 'insecurely', because it feels safe to me, since other browsers under this same OS are NOT reporting an issue. My OS is Win-7 64-bi...

Found a 'fix' for RED https with a slash thru it...
I too, was experiencing the (worrisome?) problem, that when I was accessing these forums, I was seeing my URL with RED 'https' and a slash thru it. (I read other threads about this being seen by others, but didn't see any solution.) I tried other browsers (e.g. both IE and Firefox), but I was seeing...

Confused by the various sub-title checkboxes
In months/years past, I was having success getting English sub-titles burned in to movies that I've transcoded, but now lately, on the last few movies I've tried it on, it is NOT coming thru. So, for starters, I'd like someone to explain the difference between forced and burned in. If I recall corre...

How to burn current-time/duration info during transcoding?
On Veetle, some broadcasters use a VLC technique called 'marquee text', to include the name of the content,
its current-elapsed-time and total duration, etc, etc onto each frame.
Isn't there a way to accomplish something similar, during transcoding with Handrake?
TIA...

Re: [Fixed]>[4319] No Titles found
I have some new info on the situation, where some movie-DVDs trigger the 'no titles found' condition, but others don't. I finally found a nice WORKAROUND for the problem. The workaround is to FIRST use the exciting new tool, called 'makemkv', on the offending movie-DVD, to rip all the movie chapters...

Re: Rip only?
DVDs use MPEG-2 video and AC-3 Audio. HandBrake doesn't rip DVDs, only transcodes them. If you want to rip them, you need to find another piece of software. As I kind of suspected. Anyone care to recommend (a free) rip-only tool, that runs on BOTH Linux and Win-7? EDIT: And, that also preserves the...

Re: Mixdown choice 'Stereo' won't stick into preset
Sorry if I've offended. (I kinda knew my last post attitude was indicating to me that I've been missing something, by not being able to 'read between the lines'. That tends to happen, when someone such as myself, who only knows maybe 30% of what the developers/experienced-audio-experts or whatever k...

Re: Mixdown choice 'Stereo' won't stick into preset
Is your source 5.1 Dolby AC3 or is it stereo? If it is 5.1 AC3 and you want 5.1 AC3 out, you would use AC3 Passthrough (which has no such stereo Mixdown option as Dolby PL). If it is 5.1 AC3 or stereo and you want stereo out, then the best option for me is the default, Dolby Pro Logic II, because i...
