Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion

@ Nephillmator Give this thread a read. http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16784&hilit=pgs+subtitle You need to get the Video, Audio and IDX/SUB streams into an mkv using mkvmerge and feed that into HandBrake which should recognise the Vobsubs and give you a burn in option. Than...

Re: Advanced Bluray/HDDVD Workflow & Features Discussion

Wow this is frustrating. The movie in question is Pan's Labyrinth so I need subs as I don't understand Spanish. This is a BR so I extracted the SUP files. I have tried so many different approaches: I have SRT's that came from OCR that I manually fixed for 30 minutes. Media Info displays that the MKV...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.5 Discussion Thread

Can DTS-MA or DD-HD be converted to straight AC3 5.1 or will these need to be converted before I feed the file to handbrake? There's a bug in handling dts-ma/hd input from many containers. So if you are using MakeMkv to do your ripping, it will not work. But if you are ripping a BD with something l...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.5 Discussion Thread

Can DTS-MA or DD-HD be converted to straight AC3 5.1 using the newly added 'AC3' audio option or will these need to be converted before I feed the file to handbrake? More or less is the new AC3 encoder capable of converting DTS, DTS-MA, and DD-HD into AC3 5.1?

Thanks for the reply. They're not too expensive, so I'll pick up a remote and try it out first. Note: I can't remember how to switch the audio with the game controller, but there definitely is one. Hit 'Triangle' which brings up the movie options from there go over to audio and change your settings.

Re: Saving Private Ryan - Output file larger then input.

As a follow up: CQ of 23 did not look to shabby. The dark scenes had some blocking as I am used to seeing (oddly other people say they don't see this with dark movies) but they were not horrible. If anybody has encoded Book of Eli with CQ of 20 and had no blocking during the dark scenes please let m...

Re: Saving Private Ryan - Output file larger then input.

Any chance you could do a test encode, same settings but in an MP4 container? I'm wondering if your issue is related to this one I was reading the other day... http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=17689 Last night I fired off Saving Private Ryan with CQ of 23 and 4 reference frames in...

Re: Saving Private Ryan - Output file larger then input.

I don't know why you're seeing this -- while I don't own "Eli" I have LOTS of HD blu-rays that are dark (like "Daybreakers" or "Pitch Black" -- the very definition of "dark") and they are encoded with High Profile with absolutely no difference from the origin...

Re: Saving Private Ryan - Output file larger then input.

+1 to jamielaw's suggestion - Saving Private Ryan is a beat to encode, lots of noise and grain. RF18 is definitely overkill for any HD encode in any case. How do you get away from all the terrible blocks in black scenes without doing 18 or sometimes even 17 regardless of native HD content? Book of ...

Saving Private Ryan - Output file larger then input.

As a precursor I have encoded MANY BluRay rips with great success but have come across something odd with Saving Private Ryan. My Input is a 36.3 Gig rip with AC3 audio. After encoding on the same presets I always use (and have been very successfull) the output becomes 36.45 Gigs and the encode take...
