Using Handbrake in a cluster setup

Maybe this topic is already rejected but I couldn't find it. It would be nice if I can use multiple computers that work on the same queue. I don't want systems working on the same video file, that is way too complex and I suspect it won't scale that much. Anyway, the basic idea is that if you want t...

Re: How to increase CPU usage? (8-core Mac Pro)

To run two instances of handbrake on a bunch of files that must be (batch) processed: you may use ppss:

./ppss -d /home/user/dirwithfiles/ -c 'HandBrakeCLI -i "$ITEM" -o "$ITEM".mp4" ' -p 2

The multi-instance feature of nightlies may also be interesting.

Re: Distributed/Parallel x264 encoding?

Just installing handbrake (cli?) on some nodes and point them all to a stack of files that get processed, while preventing 'collisions' would be great. One could be the master and the other ones the slaves. Would be way cool.

Re: best settings for iPhone and HDTV

The new iPhone 4 is able to playback 720p, probably the same as the unreleased new iTV. The file size will be bigger than stricly required, but it should play on iPhone, iPad and iTV.

Re: Creating a Handbrake Distributed / Cluster setup

I updated my own transcode2mp4 handbrake script as provided within this topic. I got some ideas based on work of another forum member. http://code.google.com/p/ppss/downloads/detail?name=transcode2mp4-1.01.tgz&can=2&q= It does now transfer all subtitles and audio tracks to the mp4 file instead of on...

Re: Bash batch encoding script

Thanks for your suggestions. I found out that my own script was incomplete and did not transfer all subtitles and audio tracks.

Re: Distributed/Parallel x264 encoding?

It requires a little bit of setup, but you could use multiple computers using PPSS:

If the Topic Starter is not able to run these few commands I provided above, will he/she be able to wade through about 20 pages of quite advanced instructions on how to automate this?

Re: Batch Convert VIDEO_TS Rips

I am sorry but I cannot. That would take me about 3 hours: to provide you with a step by step instruction. But you would still not know what you were doing so with the slightest error you would make, It wouldn't work and you would be lost. But basically, there is almost a step by step instruction in...

Re: Batch Convert VIDEO_TS Rips

Use HandBrakeCLI in a script to batch-process your video files. 1. You need to handle the input and arguments to HandBrakeCLI 2. You need to execute HandBrakeCLI on every VIDEO_TS directory you have. 1. You could use this script, you may have to change the handbrake options at the beginning. http://...

Creating a Handbrake Distributed / Cluster setup

Encoding or transcoding a single video file on multiple systems is not worth the effort. But you can create a Handbrake cluster that processes multiple files in parallel. I've written down some instructions about how to achieve this. I hope someone finds this useful. Say you have about 20 DVDs you w...
