Format Conversion Support

In release 1.0, FFmpeg added the atempo filter , which can be used alongside the setpts filter to perform format conversions by speeding up and slowing down video . It should also be noted that atempo automatically compensates for pitch changes that occur as a result of changing audio speed. However...

Re: [Rejected] iTunes Store Video Presets

@Flo: You're right. iTunes isn't consistent with music videos, but for movies it is consistent. SD format: 640x480 max resolution displayed at 853x480 @ 23.976 fps. 1.5 mbps video. HD format: 1280x720 max resolution @ 23.976 fps. 5 mbps video. That's it. The main reason you will get different qualit...

Re: My Script for PAL -> NTSC Speed Conversion (And Audio Bo

Sorry for the noob question, but how do I use this? It would be great to have it integrated into the program itself but either way this is exactly what I've been trying to find for a long time.

Re: [Rejected] Quicktime component..please!

I should really just leave this forum lol. I realized earlier that I had, yet again, mistaken myself in my previous post (and that I was right in the one before that). You're right. *shrug* I'll get a mac and use compressor. I'm hoping, albeit unrealistically, that they'll include Sandy Bridge encod...

Re: [Rejected] Quicktime component..please!

Actually I take that back. There's nothing wrong with x264 in that regard, it's just a problem with the decoder bundled with HandBrake. It doesn't decode with the fact in mind that during encoding there will usually be a low bitrate used. The QuickTime decoder overcomes that by adding a small amount...

Re: Reference Frames for iPod Video 5G

https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3859 In the above post are the max settings for most Apple devices. So what you're looking to use is two reference frames, no more. Also 16.5 CQ is too low for any perceivable quality enhancement. Use 18 at the least, and also add to your settings: :vbv...

Re: Creating SD/HD Files for iTunes

Use MetaX. http://www.danhinsley.com/metax/metax.html You seem to know which tags to modify, so that's good. The cnID tag, though, is labelled as "Catalog ID" in MetaX. Also, you need to add the SD version to iTunes before the HD version, as is logical in downloading SD-HD combos through iTunes. Hav...

Re: Hard and Soft Subtitles Guide

I had the same problem, you guys. What you need to do is find the encoding that both HandBrake AND SubRip support. IIRC it's [numbers]: ISO-latin or something like that, but I'm sure it was the first in that list of ISO encodings. It's important that you select the above encoding in both HandBrake A...

Re: Quicktime component..please!

I believe what he's talking about is the very desirable dithering effect QuickTime uses, which seems to smooth away all color banding. It's a shame x264 doesn't use anything similar. If it did, I can imagine people would prefer to use a much higher CRF in their encodes, because this effect seems to ...

Completely Universal Encoding

I have an iPod 5G that I encode for as a lowest common denominator, and I'd like to share the preset I've made for it, and maybe get some comments/opinions. My intention was to encode universally at a high enough resolution so that I wouldn't have to encode twice for different resolutions (from DVD ...

[Fixed] Remove File Extension From Source

Image

It's a pain to have to delete it for every encode, especially considering that when I work with DVDs, I rip them with MakeMKV.

Pretty simple request, pretty simple to implement (I assume).

Re: 2010 Preset Changes

As for the iPod 5G preset, why not use vbv-bufsize=2500 instead of 1500? I doubt the bitrate would go that high very often with CRF anyway, but why limit yourselves when it has the ability to go beyond 1500?

Re: A/V Sync Question

Haha fair point. But even when you use MPEG Streamclip with x264Encoder, or any other codec for that matter, the program's claims of having "perfect audio/video sync" stand true. I'm just wondering what the difference is there.

Possible Alternate AAC Encoder?

http://www.dolby.com/professional/techn ... pulse.html?

AutoMKV uses it (source), so I assume it's a free license. Also if faac is having license issues, then this could be ideal.

Re: A/V Sync Question

It's not a problem haha, just a question to see whether or not these skips could be avoided by any means (because other encoders don't seem to have to drop frames or insert silence, eg QT).

A/V Sync Question

Why is it that HandBrake has to constantly add silence or delete video frames in order to keep A/V sync? Is it because of a deprecated audio encoder (faac)? Or is because of something else that I'm not considering? Certainly, the video alone would not lose timing. X frames per second in a source is ...

QPRD Benefits

I've found that while doing CRF encodes, you can benefit greatly from using QPRD. It may be slow, but the hugely reduced file size and increased quality is well worth it to me. But what I'm confused about is what this method is doing that trumps the other methods by so much. I feel like people are p...

Re: [Rejected] QuickTime Encoder

The images I posted were in response to Rodeo's "I don't think I see it" comment. I'm not arguing anymore, I'm just tying up loose ends.

On a different, unanswered note, would it or would it not be possible to use QT as an audio encoder for Win? I think we can agree here that it beats faac.

Re: [Rejected] QuickTime Encoder

Rodeo, thank you for your outstanding reply. I'm curious as to why you didn't compare against the modified placebo preset instead of the modified default preset, though. Would it give much better results? Or would you use that purely for the "placebo" effect? :P Also it would be good to note that al...
