Incorporating Intel's Quick Sync?
I have wondered if Intel's Quick Sync will ever make it into future releases?

Re: Nightly Build 0.9.9 supports PGS subtitles!
I spoke too soon before the results. HB 0.9.9 does support PGS encoding, but not entirely the way the movie is made. No matter how many subs I choose to encode, there's only English as the default and no selection in the drop down or the ability to turn off.
I am back to doing the old way.

Nightly Build 0.9.9 supports PGS subtitles!
I waited for too long, but now HB supports PGS subtitles encoding. It saves me at least 1.5 hours from extracting, decoding, and remuxing before I can put MKV files into HB. A downpour after a long drought, indeed!

Re: Mitigating the issue of burning in a subtitle (encoding)
It's not as simple as upgrading to a bluray title. Subtitle in bluray is entirely a different format. Look elsewhere in this forum for procedure. Here is how the process works in brief: -After the movie has been ripped to mov format, extract the PGS subtitles. This is the most difficult process invo...

Re: When makemkv doesnt work what do you use?
There's no better program than MakeMKV out there, even on the PC side of it. If it fails on the newest BD, then wait for future release. If it fails on older BD, chances are the discs have some surface imperfection. Try to reinstall the latest release.

OpenCL support?
I noticed that Apple has recently pushed for OpenCL in their latest FCP-X, where nearly all modern GPU can be tapped into action in rendering multi-layered clips and in scenes require re-scaling. This is very similar to what I do in HB: adding subtitles and external SRT subtiltes, along with multipl...

Re: MAKING A DOCUMENTARY
I could not help but notice the nobel cause of the project for it easily wins hearts, so I am compelled to say a few things. Mkelly is right on all counts. I just finished a video project as a test run with the new Final Cut Pro 7. The video editing is not difficult, and at times fun. It is a tediou...

Re: Alternatives to HandBrake for Blu-ray
Not quite, really! The best programs for ripping and transcoding, such as MakeMKV and Handbrake, run somewhat more elegantly on OS X. As far as subtitles are concerned, both platforms require an extensive array of software to extract, repackage, and remuxed back into the main video file. Like the ot...

Re: WVC-1 codec?
I found a workaround albeit a little costly in time and quality. I used a program called MPEG Streamclip to extract and de-interlace the video only. This comes at a penalty since it only does it at 1280x720. Afterwards, I remuxed just the video back into original mkv but without the original WVC1 vi...

Re: WVC-1 codec?
I don't mean to come across sounding ungrateful because I have been so happy with HB since day 1. But if this trend continues as I added more BD to my libraries, I fear that studios might make the WVC-1 interlaced their format of choice for this reason, albeit the format is inferior. Nevertheless; ...

Re: WVC-1 codec?
"HandBrake can handle progressive VC-1. I doesn't support interlaced VC-1, however (because ffmpeg doesn't support it and HB uses it for decoding)." Thank you Rodeo. I went back to check all my blurays that I have trouble with and sure enough, they are all WVC-1 with interlace. I have the ...

WVC-1 codec?
I search for this topic and found nothing hence starting this post:
Can HB handle WVC1 picture format? A few blurays of my collection contain this format and every time I start HB, it either quits or crashes.
PLease advise.

CUDA support in future releases?
I am just putting my wish feature here. My quad core CPU is handling the job quite nicely now. But my video card just sits there wasting energy while not participating in any computing cycles. It would be a great joy if HB can tap into this vast source computing power. Any way I now it will come eve...

Thank you very much for the information. Evidently you are very informed. I hate tonag again and hijack this thread since nobody pays attention here but you Rodeo. Future HB with PGS trancode capability?
I wish a future HB release would be able to transcode directly PGS subtitles. As it stands right now, it takes me 3 to 4 hours bouncing around with different programs in between platforms(OS X and Windows) to finally remux every track back to 1 mkv file so HB could see those subs as bitmap. The reas...

Re: VC-1 CODEC ?
Thank you gentlemen for pointing that out. Had I known that before hand, I would have bought the 2009 version with D. Attenborough which is encoded with mpeg2, and it's cheaper. This is a deliberate attempt on BBC to give MS an upper hand with their proprietary codec.

Re: closed captions are unavailable in mkv to m4v conversion
HB for now is blind to PGS subtiles on Bluray. VLC (current build) can see them and display them. The conversion process is easy in windows where you can split(demux) all the individual tracks into usable files and convert the PGS subtitle files into VobSub. Then you will need to recombine(remux) th...

VC-1 CODEC ?
Since HB is the last step of the process of digitization, I would like to ask if there's a chance of support for vc-1 codec in the future. Maybe I should clarify. I just bought a box set of BBC Life Series Oprah version and HB can't seem to handle the video codec. Not that I have any sympathy for B...
