Re: DivX to iPod?

A few other free options for converting DivX to iPod on the mac are Mpeg StreamClip (export to mp4 for iTunes) or QT Sync (export to iPod). They all rely on QuickTime so you have to install Perian to make them recognize DivX, it also means that it's on the slow side and quality isn't always that gre...

One thing about joining multi-disc movies using DTOX as per the guide -- as far as I can see you can't create a single title that is larger than 9GB, so it's not possible for example to join any of the Lord of the Rings super-extended editions into single titles without a bit of recompression. It m...

Nicely done, but if I may add a suggestion: in my opinion it's important that DVD2OneX doesn't recompress the movie before you pass it on to HandBrake, to avoid losing quality. In your example this is no problem since a movie only rip stays under 4.36 GB, but most movies will pass this limit and by ...

iSquint is for free too, it uses the same engine as VisualHub, but only does mp4 conversion. It's meant for iPod conversion, but you can use it for other devices too. Checking optimize for TV and h264 should work fine for a PS3. If you want to have a higher resolution than 640 px wide, you can chang...

Keep in mind that this is only for 3.30 firmware and higher, lower firmware versions won't load 480 px wide video.

You can seemlessly join two titles with DVD2OneX, they can come from one disk or several disks. You always have to decrypt them with MacTheRipper first. Just make sure you manually set the output size big enough so that DVD2OneX doesn't recompress (it's set to single layer DVD by default). Let DVD2O...

PodTube is the $4.99 software (the previous version was free), but will do everything from downloading the video, to converting it to iPod format and to loading it in iTunes.
The free way is using the second method (without PodTube). Mpeg StreamClip, iSquint, QT Sync, Perian.. all are free.

Easy way: use PodTube Free way: copy the URL of the video you're watching, open Mpeg StreamClip, choose 'open URL' and paste the URL, click 'open as streamed file' and 'download'. This will download the .flv video file to your hard disk, you can convert that to iPod format with iSquint [or with Quic...

If it's a commercial DVD, rip it to your hard drive with MacTheRipper first. Drop the decrypted video_ts folder in FFMpegX or VisualHub and you can convert to mpeg1. In FFMpegX use the VCD preset but uncheck split mpeg and author as vcd under the options, in VisualHub use the MPEG tab.

Thanks, I had figured that out in the meantime. Strange indeed that you have to set that each time. When I convert a video file with VisualHub I have to do the same thing, so it's some bizarreness of the PSP I guess.

Hi, I've successfully encoded a file for the PSP with the following preset: encoder -> x264(main) screensize -> 480x272 bitrate -> default (was 1000) framerate: 25 (PAL content) or 29.97 (NTSC content) advanced x264 options -> threads=1:level=21 Regarding advanced options: You have to specify a H.2...

If your DVD has 20 chapters you could for instance select chapters 1-10 for disc 1 and chapters 11-20 for disc 2. Set the size to 650-700 MB for each rip.

If you still want to do this, you can open your file in QuickTime Pro and go to Movie properties. Delete the audio track you don't want to use and save as a self-contained movie, you can use that with Toast. If you don't have QuickTime Pro, you can use QT Sync to remove one of the audio tracks and s...

That could be true.
I don't like the QuickTime quality that much for converting DVD files, so I rarely use it for that. HandBrake or VisualHub give better results IMO. But that's subjective, apparently you like DivX better than h264, and that surprises me too.

First of all, you can't compare a program like DVD Fab to HandBrake. If you want DVD copy and DVD shrink applications for the mac, you can use programs like Toast or DVD2OneX (if you decrypt the DVD with MacTheRipper first). If you make a movie only copy with those programs and the main feature is b...

You can use DVD2OneX in 'movie only or join multiple titles' mode (click the ++ button to join seemlessly) to create a new video_ts folder with the two titles joined. HandBrake is focused on DVD and mpeg2 sources. If you want to convert other files (especially .mkv) to mpeg4 you'll get the best results with VisualHub. FFmpegX can do some mkv files too, but has trouble with HD mkv files. If you're looking for a free program, try iSquint, but mkv support is not so ...
