Re: Want faster transcoding, don't care about file size

You might want to look at BDSup2Sub - you'll lose some quality in the subtitles, but it'll probably take the least amount of time to get something that your TV can play back without transcoding.

Re: Exception when adding file with subtitles (0.9.6)

Just rolled back to a working version for now. BTW looks like the format of presets.xml has changed since svn4366 which made keeping presets impossible for the rollback. Not a problem except I also lost my user presets as a result while trying to fix things.

Re: Network rendering

No - since there is zero intention to add distributed transcoding I was suggesting a way to easily use the most powerful machine for the job.

Re: Network rendering

Just use remote control (e.g. VNC, Remote Desktop, Splashtop, etc) to control the machine you want to encode on if it's too much hassle to physically go there.

Exception when adding file with subtitles (0.9.6)

When adding any .mkv with ASS subtitles (that I've tried), the subtitles are not correctly added and the following exception is displayed. The last version that I know of that does not suffer this bug is svn4366 (it's been a while since I upgraded). frmMain.cs - updateUIafterScanSystem System.Argume...

Re: If I Were to Build a Machine Specifically for Handbrake.

1. For those who are willing to make insane quality/size vs encoding time tradeoffs. 2. If you use a 64-bit version (which IIRC is planned) it's going to use more memory simply by the fact that it's 64-bit (larger addresses). However, hopefully it will also be faster. 3. It's already possible to exc...

Re: If I Were to Build a Machine Specifically for Handbrake.

I meant in general - if you're building a fast machine, make sure it's got plenty of RAM for the foreseeable future. Note that I said "personally, I went for 8GB", meaning "it's what I did". It wasn't a recommendation per se. Of course, I might be a special case - I regularly run...

Re: If I Were to Build a Machine Specifically for Handbrake.

A 6-core AMD 1055T is very close to my 4-core i7 860 with hyperthreading (8 threads) for video encoding according to Anandtech, and will be considerably cheaper (esp. when you take motherboard costs into account). http://www.anandtech.com/show/3674/amds-sixcore-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-1055t-reviewed/6 Fa...

Re: Handbrake is bursting my CPU

In addition, in Tools | Options | CLI/System/Logging make sure that the CLI "Priority level" is either "Below Normal" or "Low". In theory this should allow you to do other things (web browsing, etc) on your computer whilst letting Handbrake use all your cores - Windows ...

Re: [WinGUI] Handbrake window is no longer a drag&drop targe

OK - it appears that the drag&drop failure is intermittent - with the same build sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It is consistent in that if it works once in a run of Handbrake it will continue to work until Handbrake is restarted. Likewise if it doesn't work once in a run of Handbr...

[WinGUI] Handbrake window is no longer a drag&drop target

With WinGUI nightly build 3528 the Handbrake main window was a valid drop target for files and folders. In nightly builds 3540 and 3547 this is no longer the case.

Re: Distributed/Parallel x264 encoding?

What would be useful would be a distributed job queue. Basically, setting up slave instances of Handbrake on other machines, that have jobs allocated to them as they become available.
