Re: HandBrake Development Snapshot Build 2
Hi, Been away for a while so be kind... On my new clean-install iMac I decided to keep my custom (non-Apple) applications in ~/Applications. So VLC wasn't found; How about a more exhaustive search or allow selection of location? Also, I pressed on and scanned anyway. Results were er, slow, with no a...

Hi Rodney, I came at it from exactly the other end of the telescope. My first dip into this puzzled me how people were all talking about target bit rates and file size limits. I guessed this came about from a history of squeezing stuff onto CDs for storage. I realised that I needed different bit rat...

Picture Settings crash when source not valid
First select a valid source. Then select an invalid source (like an AVI). Click Picture Settings. Boom! If you skip the first step, the button remains grey and Source shows: No Valid Title Found. However after HB sees a valid title before the invalid one, the Source shows: Not A Valid Source and the...

um for PAL would you want to use key-int=250 and key-min=25 ? Tried that with b-frames=16 and with b-frames=6 and got same blocking. Can't see why syncing the key frames to the frame rate can be important. Surely it is arbitrary if key frames occur at 1 second internals or say 25/24th second interv...

For b-bias, 0 is the default -- no bias, it decides on its own -- and 100 is non-adaptive b-frames -- total bias, it uses them at all times. By using a number > 0 you tell x264 to be biased in favor of using more b-frames more often. So try, like, b-bias=30 or something. I tried a bias of 30. Got a...

I'd also be interested if changing the b-bias or the key intervals would similarly fix the problem qwerty123 experienced. Ok, been researching how best to adjust these settings. Didn't find too much specifics on b-bias other than in c code excerpts, so haven't tried anything there. Key frames, I ju...

To test this, you need to do bframes=16:no-b-adapt Ok tried no adaptive. Got slightly lower overall bitrate, but got more blocking on that scene I posted a still from earlier. So one conclusion reflects what Manao suggested - let the encoder choose how many b-frames it needs. Forcing too many made ...

So, you have used bframes=16 with an atv before with no problems, I will have to try it. Manao is the one who helped me develop the vbv buffer settings we are using. Yes, I recognised the name from some our your IRC I'd read some time ago - so I knew it was knowledgeable info. I have only wound B-F...

Quick testing I've done, shows no difference to my eye. But it sounded like a something for nothing tip... I changed my mind looking at my test again, I spotted a picture break-up on the 6 B-Frame version that was dealt with on the 16 B-Frame encode. See below: Sorry about the childish content, my ...

Fascinating as Mr. Spock might say. Been using CRF from the start, as it just seemed the right thing. Been struggling to finalise my settings, but Cavalicious's settings to control bit rate peaks and Dynaflash's feedback looks promising... I went off on a tangent and started wondering about your oth...

Handbrake windows stays 'in-front' after the finished alert
It doesn't always seem to do it (I know I know), but often the main handbrake window gains a float to top attribute and stubbornly appears in front of all other windows. It happens after the cocktail message has been cleared. Earlier versions without this alert, didn't do this.

Re: Audio fixed in latest SVN?
Nope, x264 was modded by jbrjake on may 2nd (svn rev's 561 and 562). which was after the advanced tab but before I added the advanced options popups. So, I believe you are seeing a benefit from jbrjakes upgrade! If you have any others that previously gave you audio drops and want to test them, we w...

Re: Audio fixed in latest SVN?
qwerty123, by "dynaflash popups" which popups do you mean ? Do you mean the new popups in the new Advanced Tab in the svn ? Do you know which rev of the svn you built? I ask because before I added that advanced tab, jbrjake updated our build of x264 which *may* have helped with the audio ...

Audio fixed in latest SVN?
Just noticed that the audio has worked perfectly on my marriage DVD rip. It has been very problematic previously. Haven't had chance to narrow it down beyond that and am off to work. Just thought I'd mention it here to see if it's somehow helped others (rather than a happy co-incidence for me). It's...

Nice value of HandBrake (Process Priority)
My iMac G5 normally operates with an Energy Saver of Automatic. Keeps it quiet. However, I wind it up to Highest (using the excellent min-o-max) when HandBraking, otherwise the fps suck. (I know jbrjake uses renice -20 ...) I guess it's deliberate to make Handbrake run 'nice' so it doesn't slow down...

Thanks maurj, I am using that version (from About dialog), just checked again and the Finder Get Info version is 0.8.0b1 (although the Finder Column mode Preview area version is 0.8.5b1)! Maybe that's because I have used SVN releases previously. I'll try what you say in 3 hours when my current encod...

Crash when using Preset - v0.8.0b1
Hi, Sorry if it's not good to post an unsolicited crash log but... Reproducible if I choose my own particular preset. Sorry I can't remember the details of when I made the preset but it was prior to this version. Happy to look more and fiddle more if it's useful. Otherwise, ignore me and keep up the...

So any anamorphic encodes you do with beta 1, no, they will not display properly in QuickTime. When we release beta 2, anamorphic encodes done with it *will* display properly in QuickTime. Sounds cool. Just running some queued encodes now. My one Chapter trials do look so clever. This whole lark is...
