Re: Denoise (HQDN3D) not compatible with Apple TV (1st get)
Well, changing the extension did the trick. F me. I checked my library and a good 50% of the files in there have the MP4 extension (all which I've confirmed are playable), so I wonder what it is about these random files that the old Apple TV doesn't like? Either way, changing the extension to M4V wa...

Re: Denoise (HQDN3D) not compatible with Apple TV (1st get)
No, but I will as soon as I get home and give it a test. To be honest, I didn't look at the file extensions as a possible reason. Just doing some quick tests, it looks like if the preset outputs two audio streams (AAC and AC3 in my case), it's M4V, but MP4 when there's a single audio stream (AAC). T...

Denoise (HQDN3D) not compatible with Apple TV (1st get)
Wondering if someone could shed some light here. I have a custom preset I've been using for the first generation Apple TV. Basically, just the Apple 540p30 preset with a modified (smaller) Storage Size (as I only use this for travel, hooked up to a small TV) and Denoise enabled (HQDN3D set to light)...

Only encode Dolby Pro Logic II audio?
I'm using Handbrake to make SD versions of my kid's BR movies. The videos are going to be used on a 5th generation iPod touch (which will be played-back on the device itself and sometimes output to various TVs in hotel rooms, at the cottage, etc. via HDMI—when output to TVs, it'll just be the TVs cr...

How it bitrate limited when using Constant Quality?
Can anyone explain how bitrate is limited when using Constant Quality (say, CF20 or CF22) for device compatibility when encoding to H.264? Is it a result of the H.264 level? Thanks!

Here we rip again... (Modified preset for ATV 2&3?)
Hello all, I'm about to undergo the process of re-ripping my BR collection of movies for the Apple TV. Back in 2011, when I upgraded from the first generation ATV to the second generation ATV (but still kept the first generation around for another room in the house), I posted here and eventually, wi...

Re: AC3, 6-Channel discrete, Apple TV and a home audio setup
When you say "in the nightlies", do you mean the current build (ie., from the regular downloads page) doesn't produce Dolby Digital 5.1 track?

Re: AC3, 6-Channel discrete, Apple TV and a home audio setup
Yea, Apple TV just passes through the AC3 track, via both optical and HDMI. Anyway, using the standard DTS > AC3 > 6-channel discrete setting, will this give me a proper Dolby Digutal Surround Sound track?

AC3, 6-Channel discrete, Apple TV and a home audio setup...
Hello. I'm just about to start the process of ripping my collection of discs for my Apple TV and at the same time, I'm just about to purchase a home audio system. The system I'm currently looking at has support for Dolby Digital Surround Sound (AC3), but it doesn't have support for Dolby Pro Logic I...

DTS > AC3 (ffmpeg) > 6-channel discrete
Hello, I'm converting my collection of MKV BR rips for use on my Apple TV (my BRs collection, which I've already ripped, is a mix of AC3 and DTS audio). For the DTS, the default is: DTS > AAC > DPLII DTS > AC3 (ffmpeg) > 6-channel discrete My receiver is AC3-compatible and I'm just curious (as I don...

Re: Advice on why this won't play on Apple TV (1st Gen)
Yea, I couldn't see any difference either, so I had to post here to check (I only have a basic understanding of some of this stuff). It's not a playback issue, it's a sync issue. On the ATV1, they just don't show via my linked library, and when I try and put it on the ATV1 drive (via iTunes, as oppo...

Advice on why this won't play on Apple TV (1st Gen)
Based on the below outputs from Media Inspector, I'm wondering if anyone is able to tell me why one (the first one) of the H.264 encodes will play on an Apple TV (1st Gen), while the other (the second one) won't? On the surface, they both seem to fall within the capabilities of an Apple TV (1st Gen)...

Re: HD Preset for Apple TV & Apple TV 2?
Makes sense (again, just trying to nail out the differences between the Legacy ATV settings I used to use and the new one. Just out of curiosity, what's the effects of modifying the fps (from, say, 30fps to 25fps)? Does it effect viewability?

Re: HD Preset for Apple TV & Apple TV 2?
What if the source is greater than 25fps? Is there anything I can do via Handbrake?Rodeo wrote:Use the AppleTV preset.
If your source's framerate is <= 25 fps, increase the resolution manually.
If you don't want to do it each time, create a custom preset based on the AppleTV preset.
Thanks again!

Re: HD Preset for Apple TV & Apple TV 2?
Thanks for the quick reply Rodeo! Yea, I'm actually running a test convert right now doing that - I had tried to create a preset based on Apple TV, but the preset didn't seem to work - maybe I'm doing this wrong but I used Picture Settings to change the width to 1280 (the width determined itself), b...

HD Preset for Apple TV & Apple TV 2?
Hello. I use HB as part of the workflow for converting my BR discs for use on my Apple TV. Thing is, I recently purchased an Apple TV 2 and now I have both an Apple TV and an Apple TV 2. For the longest time, I'd been using the old (now considered "Legacy") Apple TV setting as I was gettin...

Re: Possible to apply DRC to non-AC3 videos?
Well, obviously, I would LOVE this feature!
For now, I'm converting AC3 to stereo (I know, I know) so as long as I'm doing this, I assume it'll work (I'm using a setting with a value of 2)?
Thanks!

Re: Possible to apply DRC to non-ACC videos?
HB allows you to apply DRC to any non-passthrough AC3 source track. FTFY Sorry — not ACC — meant AC3 — revised topic title. Where did that info come that I'm quoting? Via the manual in the OS X version of HB, it says... "Dynamic range compression only works when the source audio is AC3 and you...

Possible to apply DRC to non-AC3 videos?
Does anyone know a way to apply DRC to non-AC3 audio in videos? I have a newborn and we're trying to convert a bunch of our movies so we can watch them at night without having the audio pumped up (otherwise, either the quiet is too quiet or the loud is too loud). We don't have a fancy audio setup, j...
