Get/display progress/time remaining?

I’m running Handbrake on a Linux Mint machine and I wrote a shell script that asks me for the movie title and year of release, then rips the movie using my preferred settings. After the rip, it gives me stats on the file size and elapsed time. Problem is, once the rip starts, it pretty much just dis...

General hardware/system (performance) questions

I’m thinking about building a dedicated machine for Handbrake encoding. What I’m wondering is, can I skimp on the CPU (e.g. low end Ryzen) and get a fairly fast GPU? But if the disc contains TV shows, they'll usually be 40-something minutes per episode -- but that's only for shows that have one hour (with commercials) episodes. For a show with 30 minute episodes, t...

Reencoded video unwatchable regardless of settings

I'm trying to resize a DVD to watch on my iPhone 3Gs. I've tried the presets for iPhone & iPod Touch, iPhone Legacy and High Profile (resized to 480x320). I've tried H264 as well as MPEG-4. The results are the same every time... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/4650710855_e0ed9409c6.jpg I'm runni...

Re: encoding bluray to mkv - quality over file size.

Just to reiterate, though, mkv containers do NOT support HD audio playback. Just to clarify, you're specifically referring to Dolby/DTS branded lossless audio, right? Unless I misunderstand, mkv will support multi-channel flac which, also being lossless, would be indistinguishable from TrueHD or DT...
