Re: Half way through movie - Black screen - Audio only
Rollin_eng - Tried makemkv. It doesn't seem to be capturing the movie. Just the extras. Any ideas? With MakeMKV, you can choose which video segments on the disk will be extracted. Make sure to check a big segment (there may be several, for multiple language versions of the movie). Extra features wi...

Re: Add ACC audio track to existing mp4 with AC3
Is there any way especially with the command line to take an existing mp4 as shown in the first example and add an acc audio track, and set it as the default sound track, so it looks like the 2nd example ? Ideally i don't want to retranscode the video or original sound track simple add another. I a...

Re: PAL & NTSC
Ok, Totally lost. How about this. The streaming camera is a JVC GV‑LS2W Network Camera ‑ PTZ ‑ 12.4 MP, it comes in two models 1) NTSC. 2) PAL. I can't seem to find the NTSC model, but have found the PAL model. I am told that using the PAL version here in the US "Indoors" will produce a s...

Re: Can handbrake change video title?
You'll have to use a third party tool for this. For m4v containers, that would be Subler on MacOS and MP4Box on Windows. There may be others.

Re: Is there a lossless setting for merging 4GB Sony AVC chunks?
In this case, no, each chunk is a totally standalone mp4 file. I can play each chunk with VLC, etc. Otherwise one could join them with copy /b in a DOS box :) The implementation is slightly interesting because even when the camera stops because the battery runs out, you get all valid chunks includi...

Re: QT Player Crashes for Movies With More Than 2+ Subtitle Tracks
I've never used anything else than SRT text subtitles with M4V on MacOS. Those work very well in QT, for any number of tracks. Just find SRT files on the Internet and mux them into your M4V file with Subler. Wrong timing of subtitles can be a problem, though. If I cannot find a well-timed track, I u...

Re: Handbrake stalls during encoding
I tried the AAC Passthru and that did the trick! Thank you. I tried Aviddemux but it only lets you edit on keyframes and that doesn't work for me. That's expected: If you want to cut without re-encoding , this is the only way to guarantee a clean start of the video. Otherwise, you'd get pixel garba...

Re: Adding subtitles only?
Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows if Handbrake can add subtitles to a video file without having to convert the entire video again. The video format is fine, I just want to softcode the srt into the actual file itself. Anyone know if this possible?? Thank you. :D Hello, you need a remuxing tool...

Re: Remove Subtitles?
FFmpeg has the '-sn' switch. Does Handbrake have a similar switch? Poring through the Handbrake docs it appear it does not. I'm guessing it involves fiddling about with enumerating streams & figuring out how to omit them. I'll figure it out myself. You did not read the answer exactly. Handbrake...

Re: Is it possible to change default audio track after encoding
At this point it would also be very helpful to know how to choose the right audio track (standard stereo, not surround) when I'm doing the encoding. I tried doing that one one occasion and ended up with an audio track where (besides the normal audio) someone was describing what was going on, perhap...

Re: Setting to rip w/ chapters
I am using Version 0.10.5 x86_64 (2016021100) on a Mac w/ El Capitan 10.11.5. I am trying to rip home DVD movies that I created. Re: Automatically mute a short list of curse words (Kid-version)
This is not a simple requirement, for a few reasons: 1. Subtitles don't always reflect exactly what's spoken in the movie. E.g., if many people speak a lot, stuff will be dropped as the subtitles would need to change too quickly. Words within sentences may also be rearranged. 2. Timestamps for subti...

Re: Is it possible to trim a clip without quality loss?
I have a whole bunch of video files at a couple of minutes each. They contain short moments (seconds) that I want to save. I don't want to store several minutes of video per file that I don't need. Is it possible to trim the videos down to just these moments and keep the original quality? And In th...

Okay, I've filed a bug report and I'll wait for updates on that. Thanks a bunch, John! In the mean time, since all your files seem to require the same setup, consider scripting the encodes using HandBrakeCLI. There are quite a few script solutions posted in the CLI forum to get you started. That is...

Re: When can I use only Handbrake for DVD conversion VS. MakeMKV + Handbrake?
If you know that the DVD is not copy protected in any way (e.g. a home-recorded DVD), MakeMKV is not necessary.
I'm still using it for all discs, as I usually do a few at a time and can use both programs in parallel to save time (rip the next disc while the first one transcodes).

Re: Blu-Ray to MakeMKV to HandBrake with Subtitles/CC in iTunes
Generally speaking, if online subtitles were created from a Blu-ray, sync issues are very rare. Blu-rays, unlike DVDs, almost always have the same frame rate & timing all around the world. Yes, when you find the right .srt file, it remains synced throughout, however I recently d/l hundreds of ....

Re: Blu-Ray to MakeMKV to HandBrake with Subtitles/CC in iTunes
I promise I've been searching for an answer to this, but haven't found one. Here's my situation: 1. I'm archiving my Blu-Ray movies onto my iMac for playback in iTunes. 2. I use MakeMKV to copy the movie. 2a. When I playback the MKV in VLC, I can toggle English subtitles on or off from the subtitle...

Re: A Question before I start... Do iPads support DVD menus?
Before I start.. Do iPads / Handbrake support DVD menus? If not, my needs are not reached but if it skips the menu and carries on with the main content, I'm fine. -Mineblock There's no meaningful way to encode the DVD menu with HandBrake. You just encode the movie directly (after decrypting the DVD...

Re: No Valid Source Found
What are the Alternatives to MakeMKV. I tried it and it is incredible slow. What use to take minutes now takes an hour+ for one of my DVDs of a TV show that has 4 42 minute shows on it. It's not slow for me at all. Just used it to copy a Blue-Ray yesterday. 30 GB ripped to MKV in roughly half an ho...

Re: unlock the Width & Height
Yes, you are right. The "problem" is, that some people don´t want an anamorphic output, they want an output of 16:9 that was sent in anamorphic. On some Sat Receiver channels the Source is 544 x 576 pixel anamorphic 16:9 and they want to transcode it for their Collection to 720 x 404 oder...

Re: H265 playback on iOS after Handbrake conversion
VLC can't use the hardware decoder on the iPod, so it's all on the cpu, and the cpu is too slow. But you can have the same bitrate reduction with H.264, just try, and if it's too big you can always reduce the resolution or use a bigger RF. To add two more data points here: My iPhone 6 does play bac...

Re: Apple TV3 Decomb on or off
I see the Apple TV3 preset has Decomb turned on by default. For DVD's made in the last few years, is this necessary to leave on? Why does the Apple TV 2 preset not have it on as a default setting like the ATV3? I know leaving it off speeds up conversions... and I would rather it not do any kind of ...

Re: Using Apple TV 3 HD Source not tagged as HD iTunes
In my experience, this was usually due to missing metadata tags. I usually set these after converting using the Subler tool ( https://bitbucket.org/galad87/subler/wiki/Home ). It can also download metadata (and movie posters) for commercial movies. As it's only adding metadata, the process is quick....

Re: [Won't Fix] Preview doesn't start at specified time
I don't understand the rationale for this design decision. Or maybe I don't understand what HandBrake means by "preview". I'm a new user, so I may be confused. I always took the preview as a means to judge output quality given the current quality settings. E.g. how much quality do I gain ...
