Re: auto-crop not re-setting when loading a new source

Cool. 0.9.9 is too far behind though, so this won't be backported - you'll have to use the nightlies until the next release. Note that the crop values were not wrong in the encode, as --crop was not added to the CLI query when autocrop was on (so the actual, correct autocrop values were used for th...

Re: auto-crop not re-setting when loading a new source

Current nightly build (5838) had no trouble here. It updated auto-cropping values for each new source.

Re: auto-crop not re-setting when loading a new source

Please don't bother with old builds, unless s55 specifically asks for it. It's either fixed in the nightlies, or it's not. all right. I was curious when the issue began, but you're right that the first thing to check is whether it's a problem going forward. I'll test this with nightly build(s) tomo...

I'll try to download some of the prior builds, as well as newer nightly builds, and see which versions show this issue.

auto-crop not re-setting when loading a new source

Thanks for all the work on Handbrake. It's an excellent program and I really appreciate it. recently, Handbrake has not been re-setting the automatic crop when I load a new source. In the past, after loading a new source I would get Handbrake to re-set the automatic cropping values by clicking back-...

Re: possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

@nightstrm - thanks for the useful reply on the ACC front. "Good for them" (particularly the developer, but also other decision-makers for being open to a platform-specific solution since an across-the-board isn't yet available) for the inclusion of CoreAudio. @musicvid - AAC passthru woul...

Re: possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

There are lots of reasons why format specifications include or don't include things. One of these reasons is quality. Others include business and patent politics, and of course timing. So "mp3 isn't included in DVD-video" is not, by itself, a valid point about the audio quality of the form...

Re: possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

@musicvid - thanks for being open-minded here. Lame mp3 is actually quite good, and at settings of V3 and above (V2, V1, and V0 are respectively higher quality and thus higher bitrates) is transparent to the vast majority people on the vast majority of music (presuming listening on good equipment, t...

Ah, I assumed that since you mentioned AAC in your post, you were comparing the formats and just assuming AAC is better than mp3, regardless of encoder. Sorry to jump the gun there.

possible to get Lame (ideally VBR) audio, and for mp4 too?

So I'm curious why Handbrake only offers mp3 audio option when using Matroska container output, and also why only Constant Bit Rate mp3. As far as I understand, 1) mp3 is compatible with mpeg-4 standard container format 2) VBR audio streams are spec-compatible and work fine in matroska and mpeg-4 vi...

Re: General Question: MPEG2 vs. MPEG4

transcoding from one lossy format to another always applies another round of quality loss. if you're fine storing 4-6 GB on your computer for each DVD you rip, then nevermind with Handbrake. the value of Handbrake is to store a video in much smaller filespace, without obvious degradation in quality,...

Re: Vertical banding + VBR?

Really, I don't see the point of using MP3 itself, since AAC goes in MP4s. Is there any drawback or risk to using VBR (whether AAC or MP3) for audio tracks? It's essentially equivalent to CRF for video, isn't it? Why isn't it offered in HB? (Simplicity?) I'll take pretty strong issue with creamyhor...

Re: libsamplerate/libvorbis: newer versions are available

I realize this post is a month-later resurrect of this thread, but I figured that was better than starting a new thread. I would love to see the LAME mp3 encoder implemented in its full-quality (VBR presents) form in Handbrake. In blind testing done by Hydrogen Audio, Lame's current implementations ...
