Re: 10bit / 12bit x265 Mac LIbrary
Can anyone help me with compiling these libraries? I keep running into errors. I've downloaded the x265_2.1 source; used the CMake Mac gui and pointed the "source code" field to the package's source folder (z265_2.1/source) and the build field to the build folder (x265_2.1/build). I click ...

Re: FLAC passthrough?
If you want to downmix, then there's no such thing as passthru ;) Hah, well of course not. Some of my Blu-Rays have lossless 5.1 tracks already so an actual passthru would of course be preferable. I may just keep the 7.1 tracks as they are also and let my AVR handle them like it normally would. It'...

Re: FLAC passthrough?
it's being worked on FLAC Passthru. ... - passthru is actually lossless, unlike our implementation of FLAC encoding (we use floating-point for all uncompressed audio in our pipeline, so even if no processing occurs, the integer -> float -> integer conversion isn't necessarily lossless) Aha... glad ...

FLAC passthrough?
Howdy all. I've recently migrated from an ATV to a Mac mini running Plex. As a result, I'm re-encoding some of my media to bump up the quality some and keep my audio tracks as FLAC. I don't see a passthru option for FLAC, just an option to re-encode to FLAC. I'm guessing that re-encoding FLAC to FLA...

Naming audio tracks with Handbrake CLI
Howdy all. I'm trying to get the string correct for the audio tracks with Handbrake CLI. The audio part of the string is as follows: -a 1,1 -E ca_aac,copy:ac3 -A "Downmixed Audio","Main Audio" -B 160,auto I'm taking a single AC3 track and downmixing to a 2 channel AAC track as we...

Re: Is DVD quality going down, or is it me?
Denoise! I didn't think of that. Let me play with it a bit. I was thinking it would just smooth everything out until it looked "flat" (hard to describe), but maybe not. Thanks! It "can", depending on how aggressive you get. I've used it on some of my rips, most notably some Tom ...

Re: Is DVD quality going down, or is it me?
Perhaps the version you downloaded was transcoded with denoise filters turned on? That can drastically reduce the file size and perhaps even make it look better if the source had a lot of noise in it. If you post a couple comparison screen shots, perhaps someone with a good eye can tell.

Re: Downmix DTS-HD MA?
I just wanted to thank you again for that tip. It's working out splendidly, and I thought I'd throw a tip of my own back out for anyone interested. Since most of my Blu-rays are already converted, I looked for an option to just re-encode the audio so I could re-mux them into my existing rips. I coul...

Awesome. Thanks for the tip!Rodeo wrote:MakeMKV will decode DTS-HD to FLAC - you have to enable advanced mode if Preferences, point it to a compatible DLL (see MakeMKV forum or documentation), and use the "FLAC" conversion profile.

Thanks. Would you happen to know of any software that does do it? Mac preferably, but Windows is OK or even Linux. I'm not having any luck finding any in looking around.Rodeo wrote:HandBrake can only decode the core.

Downmix DTS-HD MA?
Howdy all. I have a question about how Handbrake handles the lossless DTS-HD MA tracks. I'm normally satisfied with movies that have a native AC3 track, but so many come with DTS instead that I end up having to downmix the DTS track to AC3 for playback on my ATV2. I've not really been completely hap...

Re: Handbrake, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, and system sleep
Rather than having to remember to use Caffeine while doing an encode, it's possible to use the caffeinate command in Terminal along with some strings to auto-launch Handbrake. For example: caffeinate -i & open -W -a HandBrake.app That will "caffeinate" the system and then launch Handbr...

Re: cropping, aspect and quality . . .
The problem you are seeing is with Plex. It simply doesn't "properly" handle anamorphic rips that use non-square pixels, which is highly common with DVD rips. I don't know why this requires a manual tweak to display 4:3, but this kludge exists in XBMC also, and since Plex is a fork of XBMC...

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc
There have been many bugfixes since then. Whether they affect a typical Blu-Ray extraction workflow, I don't know. *sigh* Yeah, I know. I'm being more stubborn I guess because *I* have never had issues. Doesn't mean no one else will, like asta seems to be with MKVtools. In my little world, I figure...

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc
If the CLI syntax changes, or if mkvinfo's output changes, it may break. Good point, though I would have been surprised if anything had changed, at least with the minimal options that iMkvextract uses. Anywho, I thought I was trying a different version of the CLI (pulled out of MKVtools), but I jus...

2. Demux the streams using ClownBD (PC only -- this is the only step that requires emulation, since I haven't found any Mac compatible demuxer) Lifeisabeach mentioned iMKVExtract twice; it's a GUI for a very old version of mkvextract. Might work to extract PGS from MakeMKV's output, though since it...

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc
i've found mkvtools pretty worthless, at least for extraction . . . even when it will open a stream, the export "OK" button is grayed out, and if you press "play" it will freeze. If the "OK" button is grayed out, it's because you didn't actually select anything to be e...

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc
The Blu-Ray spec allows 3 video formats: MPEG-2, H.264 and VC-1. Didn't know that about MPEG-2. Thanks for pointing it out. so, given that mkvtools will not extract mpeg-2 rips from blu-ray, are there other mac apps that will? Did iMKVExtract not work for you? It was linked in my prior re...

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc
lifesabeach -- interesting, but mkvtools doesn't seem to be able to open anything put out by makemkv: how do you open the backup from makemkv with mkvtools? It certainly will open them. I drag/drop up in the text box (you have to register to drag/drop, iirc), but you can also just use the Open butt...

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc
As I continue to review my steps; maybe I shouldn't expect to see the forced subs when testing the .mkv. Instead I should let handbrake encode my M4V with the subs and test that resultant file? I'm a little confused in Handbrake... Before clicking Add (to get the subtitle details to show), do I cho...

Re: HOWTO:Blu-ray "Forced" Subtitles-Avatar, District 9, etc
I'd been working on a way to get forced subtitles from BD rips burned in on my HandBrake encodes and worked out one that is essentially identical to how the OP here wound up doing it. That workflow was Windows-oriented, so as a Mac user, I thought I'd share the details of my tools and workflow. 1: L...

Re: DVD rips, Plex, and chapter markers with the CLI.
I'm wondering if the problem is FFmpeg, which is what XBMC (and Plex) use for for its core. HandBrake uses ffmpeg for reading everything but DVD, TS and program streams. So mp4 files are handled by ffmpeg and we get the correct aspect when eating our own dog food. Good point. :) BTW... if you aren'...

Re: DVD rips, Plex, and chapter markers with the CLI.
8:9 is the PAR for 4:3 NTSC video (i.e. 720x480 -> 640 x 480). Aha! *smacks head* Thanks for clearing up the cobwebs. Sorry I got confused... hopefully it's a bit more understandable given how Plex (and XBMC too, in all fairness) seems to be mishandling anamorphic rips and using "Pixel Ratio&q...
