Re: High Profile

Oh ok was just wondering because I was told once to always have it set on strict and was thinking that maybe I should have been using loose instead. Thank you for the reply

High Profile

I noticed in the high profile preset it sets it to loose and not strict anamorphic? Shouldnt that be set to strict? For bluray and dvd encodes

Re: Blu-ray to MKV

Make MKV is a great program for ripping youre Blu Rays and is on a beta free trial atm to try out if you want. I use it all the time to turn my blu rays into mkvs and is very user friendly.

Re: Why use high profile?

I dont see a big difference myself either other than increasing the time to encode. At least not a big enough difference that I can tell on my tv. Reason I have used the normal preset.

Re: best settings for DVD and Blu-rays ne to all this

On DVD I use 20rf with normal preset ,
On Blu Ray I use 22rf (24 if it is grainy) also on normal preset
Produces a good quality compression in a decent amount of time

Re: Which x264 settings affect quality? compression?

For Dvd I use Normal Preset at 20rf and Blu Ray 22rf sometimes 24rf (if grainy video) also on a normal preset.I find it good compression and good quality on those and not a super long encode time around 6-8fps on blu ray and 35-45fps on dvd

Re: Decent settings for archiving

I seem to find the best setting I get is Normal Preset with Rf 20 for dvd and rf 22 for blu ray, am I shorting myself anything by going normal than high ? Seems everyone does the the high preset over the normal? My encodes seem alot longer on high and dont notice a big difference in quality.

Chapters

Does Handbrake support Blu ray Chapters? I have recently been coming across blu rays that I ripped to Mkv that shows it sees the chapters in description but the box to check chapters in the gui is greyed out? Didnt see any info on chapter support for blu ray mkv files . Would prefer to have the chap...

Normal vs High Profile

I am currently not sure which preset would be best for converting dvd rips, whether normal or high profile preset. Im not the most technically advanced in this and figured just using a preset would be fine. I have done some encodes in normal preset but was wondering if going to the high profile crea...

MKV or MP4 ?

Most seem to encode to MP4 and not MKV but from what I read on the net it seems MKV is the best . Any reason most go for MP4 ? I am currently encoding to MKV for playback on XBMC but am wondering why so many choose MP4. Should i be encoding to MP4?
