Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

These are the setting I got courtesy of user archer: Constant quality - 18 for 1080, 16 for 4k. This is why you shouldnt listen to strangers on the internet... https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/1.3.0/workflow/adjust-quality.html I've read that article and I would argue it's just plain wrong. I've done e...

Re: HandBrake does not use Apple M1 video encoder/decoder

On my 2018 mini with the i7 I can encode all day long at 95c and that CPU maxed. The thing is damn hot but it does it. Fan spinning away.

The temps on these new M1 minis at 100% load with the fan going are what, around 60c? I'd take that.

Re: How about the transcoding speed of the new m1 processor,

Posted this in another thread: So here's my preliminary, unscientific results with my new M1 Mac Mini. Encoded an episode of Stargate Atlantis (from BluRay 1080p source with passthrough DTS audio) in h.265, medium, quality 24. 1. v1.3.3 using Rosetta > 1hr 17min 2. 1.4.0 beta 1 universal binary > 1...

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

It’s my understanding that HB does not support HDR due to the 8 bit pipeline. Perhaps a dev can confirm/deny? It works. I have hundreds of 4k encodes that all have working HDR. As HB has an 8 bit pipeline I believe you are not getting “true” HDR. triggers HDR on my TV. I've done comparisons against...

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

I have a current ATV 4K 64Gig. I've tried it both 4K HDR and SDR, both with match frame rate and match range. Didn't seem to make any difference. My TV is a Samsung 4K 58", circa 2019. I wish iTunes recognized mkv format but it doesn't so I have to convert to either m4v via Handbrake or to mp4...

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

I will give those settings a try. I use MakeMKV to do the initial burn into mkv from hard media. I do transcoding into iTunes compatible m4v files with Handbrake, then go straight to AppleTV. I tried using plex but it didn't handle TV programs properly for me (kept wanting to treat them as movies w...

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

I'll check my Samsung setting to see what it is set for. Thanks for the hint. are you sure your samsung and your AVR support HDR? Could also be a HDMI cable issue. Also, don't use the tv app or itunes for playback. Use plex as your server on your computer and use infuse on the ATV. You can use plex...

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

I'd appreciate knowing what setting you are using in Handbrake (specifically h.265 vs h.264) and how long it takes for transcoding. sorry I was going to check when I got home and complete spaced it. Off the top of my head I use H.265 10 bit. RF of 16 on 4k and 18 on 1080. Keep original aspect ratio...

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

Thanks. I did try changing the RF settings to 20, even tried going down to 15. No change in the distortion issue. I did get some encouraging results with the Apple Video Toolbox. https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZmR36kZjG9WhATgSHyk3SRyT5C7FXs7eiFV The picture quality was very washed out. Po...

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.

I'll have to check my settings when I get home but I have no issue encoding 4k HDR on my mac mini in handbrake and using plex or infuse to play to my ATV4k connected to my denon x3300w to my LG OLED B6 TV. Been doing it for years.

Re: Getting Good Results Ripping 4K

My UHD rips that I reencode in handbrake do have HDR when I play them back on the ATV4k(just not dolby vision). I primarily use Infuse for playback which is the best player IMO but it also works in plex. Tested again last night just to make sure. Typically when you watch a movie with HDR and it look...

Re: Better encodes from Mac vs PC?

I found the issue. I was switching between mac and PC via KVM, had several profiles setup on each and the one on the mac I wanted to use was set as default but the one on the PC I didn't set as default so as I setup a variety of tests I ended up using the wrong profile for one of them so 1 setting w...

Re: Getting Good Results Ripping 4K

I'm an old pro at Handbrake, but have run into an issue trying to transcode my first UHD. Using *any* settings which Apple TV can handle, daylight scenes in the movie are washed out, unwatchable. I can get great-looking results using the main10-intra profile, but Apple TV can't play files encoded w...

Logs or it didn't happen. You're most likely accidentally using different settings on one vs. the other machine. Yes, i'll post logs. Just stuck at work right now so it will have to be later. Just doing some searching trying to figure out what it could be so I can look in to it further when I get h...

Better encodes from Mac vs PC?

I have a question that hopefully someone can help me with. I have two computers, a PC I built and a 2018 mac mini. Using handbrake 1.2 on both(i've used other versions and nightly builds with the same results), using the same settings with the same file and encoding with HEVC 10bit I get very differ...

Re: Trying to create 4K M4V for Apple TV 4k

It's washed out because it's HDR and something doesn't support it. Either the format you have it in, your TV, or itunes via that method. Why not use plex or infuse? Make it a .mkv instead. Use infuse and you'll get the HD audio, assuming you're using a receiver that supports it. I have a ATV4k as we...

Re: How to build a preset that select DTS-HD or TRUEHD ?

Easiest thing would be not to rip audio tracks you don't want(assuming you're ripping with something like makemkv like I do). Then you set handbrake to auto passthrough for the HD audio tracks. This way you never have to mess with the audio files and you'll always have the HD audio you want.

Re: HEVC quality vs speed slider, much trial and error!

I use CRF 18, medium. Why? Because when comparing to the original BD rip I can see a difference when using 20 or 22. At 18 I cannot. Granted I have to go frame by frame and have my face close to my monitor but it is noticeable. My rips are still smaller using h.265 versus h.264 so i'm happy and I ge...

CLI stopped working

Windows 7 x64 reports CLI stopped functioning whenever I try to re-encode a BD ripped video. I'm running Handbrake 0.9.4 I'm just inputting the video into handbrake. No subs, no audio, no chapters. I have searched the forums and I heard it said that a snapshot build should fix it. Though it's also l...
