Re: Crash during source scan
Well I figured out how to get Handbrake to work without using the CLI. I just have to use the "Open Source (Title Specific)" option when opening a video file. I have to do that even if only one title is available in a source but at least it works.

Re: Crash during source scan
I can't seem to find the issue. Looks like I'll have to use Handbrake CLI for now.

Re: Maximum number of cores?
Handbrake only effectively uses 60% or so of my quad (with 8 threads) i7's power so it's doubtful that it would use 100% of an 8 core processor. You can (as previously mentioned) run multiple instances of Handbrake to use the full potential of the processor.

Re: Crash during source scan
Well it must have been something between DP 3 and DP 4 that caused the issue. Handbrake had no issues for me under DP 3.

Crash during source scan
Every time I try selecting a movie to convert with handbrake, even using the latest nightly, handbrake waits a second then crashes no matter the source. I'm running handbrake on a 2011 base 15" MacBook Pro using OS X Lion Developer Preview 4.

Re: Best settings for multiple devices
My Question to the profi users: I've an elgato turbo.264HD Stick and use it on my MacBookPro 2.2 GHz C2D (2007). Cause the software sucks (asynchron audio/video) I use Handbrake again. Is there a possibility to let the Hardware stick support the Handbrake conversion? Does anyone knows a solution to...

Re: iPad - Visual Diff between 1280x720 and 1024xwhatever
If you want to save space go with the display resolution. If you are going to be using the zoom feature to fill the screen when watching the movie then it's best to go with the 720p option.

Re: Encoding BluRay to 720p for ipad
That would work fine. Anamorphic loose will work fine with 720p video as long as you keep the width at or below 1280 and automatic cropping will likely shorten the height to get rid of black bars so there's no need to check the "Keep Aspect Ratio" box. You can just take the iPad preset and...

It will degrade the quality. It just won't do so in a way that's noticeable to most people's eyes.

Thanks. Should the framerate not showing correctly produce any other problems other than incorrect percentage?

Handbrake not finishing conversion
Handbrake has been stuck for 10 hours now at 100% during an encode of a 1080p Iron Man mkv to a custom preset I made to make the movie compatible with the iPad. While Handbrake still appears to be encoding the file, it should be done by now. It has spent nearly 22 hours encoding while the settings I...

A bit heavy on the psy settings, but as long as you're happy with the results… you may want to play with aq-strength a bit. ref : (18000/((width/16)(height/16))) <- Formula used to calculate maximum reference frames You should round up width and height to mod 16. Re: Encoding a .ts file into something more useful?
If you're only going to be watching the video on your computer then use the highest settings you're willing to wait for. The higher quality settings in mist cases will slow down the encode greatly. I would recommend that you crop the black bars as it will save space and might possibly reduce encodin...

Re: iPad Encoding
So the iPad therefore accepts High Profile level 3.1 video? I'm converting a 720p blu-ray rip (which I own) of Avatar using the iPad preset and it's using High Profile level 3.1.

Re: Make AppleTV encodes play on iPhone/iPad
I'm pretty sure that out of those devices the Apple TV is the most limiting. I suggest reading this thread -> http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13506 and changing surround sound output to dolby pro logic or something similar while making sure the audio bitrate stays at or below 160KB...

Re: how many reference frames can quicktime handle?
I've gotten Quicktime X to play 12 reference frames with no stuttering at all but haven't tried more. It really depends on the version of quicktime, other settings used, and the speed of your computer.

Re: reverse process with handbrake
I don't think handbrake has the ability to create chapters but if you use a separate program to create chapters you can encode each chapter separate with handbrake to create three 10 minute videos. Alternately you can encode the three sections of it using the seconds dropdown which allows you to enc...

Re: Best settings for DVD backup/archival
It would also depend on what amount of time you're willing to spend encoding the video. More advanced settings will give you better quality or a lower bitrate but also make the encoding time increase greatly. The more time you're willing to spend encoding the better your results will likely be depen...

The "large file size" option can be used with your iMac, iPhone 3Gs, and iPad. I'm not completely sure about the Xtreamer though as I haven't looked into it before.
