[Fixed]4337svn strange artifacts on some sources
I'm not sure if this is the same issue posted here in this forum. The artifacts look a bit different, so I'll post this report here anyway... So using the latest couple of nightlies (I've tried 4337svn down through 4324svn), I find that one of my sources has a bit of a problem. This is the Stargate ...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
Hi, Can you share what was done for the fix? I'm experimenting with that software package as well.

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
Check his log; he used CFR. Ah, why yes he did. He even said he did. :/ Sometimes i'm a bit daft. I tried the trial of Mezzmo and also experienced the unsupported data issue with MP4. Interestingly enough, Mezzmo will serve up the same stream in an m2ts with no issue. WMP serves up both containers ...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
You might want to go over this post . If Mezzmo uses the tsmuxer package internally, you probably are having that same issue (timebase vs. framerate). We can test by using the DNLA server built into Windows. I see you are using Vista, so you are stuck with WMP11. I don't use that, so I can't help yo...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
AC3 passthru works great in the MP4 container for well over a year now-- since firmware 3.30. Take your transcoded file and put it on a usb thumb drive and see if the PS3 can play it directly from there. Likely, there is nothing wrong with the MP4 file, but rather your streaming methodology. What so...

Re: Disappointed to see target file size go
Just another user wanting the target-filesize option to stay. I only use(ed) it when targeting flashcards, but it was quick, easy, and worked.

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
I'd try a wired network firstly. It is well known that the PS3's wireless implementation is dodgy. The first item on the PS3 Media Server troubleshooting guide is to run a wired network. Personally, I threw in a 640GB drive and copy everything over to the PS3. If the files play back properly from a ...

Re: PS3 .mp4 Subtitle when multiple languages
You wont have to for the full movie. If the movie is from DVD, turn to the subtitles tab in handbrake and select "Foreign Audio Search" from the dropdown. Check the "burned in" option and click "Add". The foreign audio search will look at the subtitles for just the fore...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
Did you try playback directly on the PS3? I just encoded Chicken Little, and other than the obvious voice to character problems, it was in perfect sync.

Re: Profile for DivX Plus HD?
One of the DivX team members posted over at the doom9 forums about a year ago, and recommended this for maximum DivX HD hardware compatibility. We've posted DivX Plus compatible settings at DivX Labs, since DivX Plus HD devices are coming out this year from our CE partners (e.g. Philips, Seagate, et...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
Well, I find this discussion interesting. I have had only two instances in which audio sync has been an issue on the PS3. Firstly was with the 0.9.4 release. Any encode done with 0.9.4 and High Profile showed ~150ms out-of-sync when played on the PS3. As stated prior, upgrading to a nightly solved t...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
I guess I have a dissenting opinion. I'm fairly susceptible to audio sync, enough to notice the 40ms I had to delay at the receiver level... Today I encoded the same film with: AC3 -> AC3 passthru AC3 -> AC3 ffmpeg 6 Channel Discrete (640) AC3 -> AAC 6 Channel Discrete (640) AC3 -> AAC Stereo ProLog...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
My analysis was, that since my PS3 is only connected directly to a TV (52 inch plasma, if that matters) via HDMI, the PS3 must decode the AC3, and downmix it to stereo at PLAYBACK time, since thats all my TV would accept . Its this addition work the PS3 must do during playback that makes a movie en...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
I'm sorry, the correct setting is called default, not auto, and you can select it from the dropdown. No need to type anything in, just select default. If that doesn't work, try setting deinterlace to slow.

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
I've had audio sync issues with 0.9.4 release, but since switching to nightlies nearly a year ago, I've experienced no problem what-so-ever on either Blu-ray or DVD encodes. :merange=64 is a pretty strange option, no x264 preset uses more than 24, not even "placebo". I doubt that is your p...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
I've encoded several videos for playback on the PS3 based on the information in this thread. I just encountered the dreaded corrupt source error with a .mp4 file that I encoded using HandBrake 0.9.4 and the High Profile with a few of the above tweaks. This file previously streamed to my PS3 without...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
That formula is to calculate the maximum number of Reference Frames, keeping to level 4.2 requirements, which is the maximum the PS3 allows. The results of that formula can be entered on the Advanced panel in HandBrake. The very first option is "Reference Frames". As said in the first post...

Re: HandBraking the PS3 (The PS3 Owners Thread)
Well, since you posted to the PS3 thread, I'll assume you are targeting the PS3 as your playback device. For DVD, you'll first need to decrypt the DVDs for use by HandBrake. There are many different options available to do this. In a Windows environment, AnyDVD (a commercial program that will cost y...

Of course there is a solution, but you have to do your part-- please post your activity log. Instructions are explained at the top of every page of this forum in the big red box. You also need to try to copy your mp4 file to a thumb drive and see if the PS3 can play it from there. This way we can ru...

I can confirm the PS3 chokes on any resolution greater than 1080. I'll add this valuable information to the PS3 Owners Thread. Thank you for your contribution.
