Re: The ability to add External SUPs & SUBs along with SRTs
I second that! This would be a huge improvement for Blu-rays! Of course it would be even better if Handbrake could handle .sups internally, either to pass-through (VLC can display them), burn-in (like DVD .subs) or convert to sub (because more software players can display .subs than .sups).

Re: The Sound of Music Blu-Ray
Well, I'm having the same problem. AVATAR Blu-ray (Region B, Germany), Windows 7 64-bit, Handbrake svn3705, AnyDVD HD 6.7.5.0 (Rip to Image, Keep Protection), mounted with Virtual CloneDrive, on-the-fly decryption with only Blu-ray support enabled (I just now tried it with the physical Blu-ray Disc ...

Re: Alternative for mkv to m4v conversion with video passthr
Small status update: The method mentioned above with the modified ffmpeg AFAIK still seems to be the best way to go, at least on Windows. You can input a MKV with H.264 and AC3 and output a M4V with H.264+AAC+AC3. Now the downside is that you still can't choose the audio stream in Quicktime, only in...

Re: iPad Encoding
I do this too, but I didn't want my example to become too complicated (you could do HD as well on the iPhone 3GS :-) Not via iTunes, or I don't know the trick. The level hack does allow iTunes syncing. Anyway, this is not exactly on topic - might be a good idea to move this discussion to another th...

Re: iPad Encoding
- Only for the iPhone 3GS: If you have widescreen (16:9 etc.) or 4:3 source material you have to change the number of reference frames to 5 or iTunes won't transfer the file. The iPhone is limited to H.264 level 3.0, which does mean a maximum of 5 ref frames for 720x576 (you can go up to 6 for 720x...

Re: iPad Encoding
So far I'm using this customized High profile (SVN3154) for the iPad: Source material: PAL DVD (576p, 25fps), Cinemascope Destination: High quality and playable on iPhone 3GS, iPad and home theater computer . My query: -i "H:\BATMAN_BEGINS" -t 1 --angle 1 -c 1-40 -o "K:\BATMAN_BEGINS....

Re: iPad Encoding
7 refs at 720x576 is level 3.1. It will not sync to an iPhone 3GS via iTunes unless you "force" level 3.0 via the options string (i.e. tell x264 to indicate level 3.0 when the H.264 stream really is level 3.1). Fair enough, forgot that I had that in there. But the iPhone3GS still can play...

Re: iPad Encoding
As far as video goes I bet (based on jbrjake's feedback and my experience with an iPhone 3GS which - AFAIK - uses similar hardware, only slower) it's pretty much High Profile H.264, Level 3.1, with a maximum of 1280x720 and 30 fps (iTunes sync limitation). You can derive other limitations (like max...

What you can do is extract the subtitles, convert them into srt if necessary and then import.

Re: iPad Encoding
How about iPad decoding limitations? Maybe we could gather them in this thread too. And I don't mean the official ones, as usual they are way off. E.g. max resolution (or pixels), bitrate, anamorphic support, audio bitrate, h.264 parameters (max ref? b-frames? ...) etc. Also are there iTunes limitat...

Come on, no ideas? Or did I post it in the wrong section?
By the way, I haven't found a better way yet and couldn't really improve my method so far. I keep you updated.

Re: iPad encode testing
It can take the High Profile preset at 1280 wide; obviously use 1024 if your file is for the iPad only. Also drop the AC3 track if you're not going to reuse the file on other devices. Supports 5 refs at 1024x768 (4:3), 7 refs at 1024x576 (16:9), 10 refs at 1024x448 (2.3:1), etc. Thanks for the info...

Alternative for mkv to m4v conversion with video passthru?!
First, I know Handbrake doesn't support this and never will. That's why I was looking for an alternative and now need some help with a few details from people who know how to get video files work perfectly on Apple devices. I know a lot of other people are looking for something similar and are reque...

Re: Create mp4 wihout re-encoding video (h.264)
...And video plus aac and ac3 audio (like handbrake does it for AppleTV etc.) isn't working so far, somehow... Assuming your audio track layout is correct (AAC on tk1 and AC3 on tk2) then this would suggest that the H.264 video stream is not supported - you'll have to transcode the video to get the...

Re: Create mp4 wihout re-encoding video (h.264)
I'm also looking for a way to quickly (batch) convert mkv files into mp4 without transcoding the video. I already have nearly all of my DVDs as H.264 mkv files with ac3 audio on HDD, but the iPhone can't play them because of the mkv container and ac3 audio. I know that they work if I manually extrac...

Re: Beginning Work on iPad Preset
Will existing encodes using the AppleTV preset with no other customisations be playable on the iPad from what we know so far? According to Apple's official specs, no. But then, according to Apple's official specs, HandBrake's AppleTV preset should be incompatible with the AppleTV, and yet it works ...

[Fixed] (Multi-) angle 2 missing in drop-down menu
SVN2907, WinGUI bug (I guess...) I tried to encode "007 Die Another Day" and ran into a small GUI problem. I know this DVD is problematic, but I'm not sure if this is a specific DVD problem or a GUI problem, so here we go: I ripped the DVD today with up-to-date AnyDVD (Full Disc) and opene...

Why difference between "default" and "auto" audio mixdown?
WinGUI: SVN2907 Ok, maybe that's a dumb question. But why is the audio default mixdown not the same as the auto mixdown? The WinGUI doesn't offer "default", it just offers "auto" mixdown. With no mixdown parameter you get the default (=dpl2), with "-6 auto" you get ster...

UTF-8 srt-subtitles don't seem to work properly
SVN2907: Srt subtitles with UTF-8 encoding seem to produce empty subtitle streams. Since I sometimes use German subitles and the default latin1 srt-codeset doesn't like German umlauts, I saved my srt files as UTF-8 in Notepad++ and encoded a test video with them. But the UTF-8 subtitles don't show u...

Re: Default subtitle problem
Thanks for the explanation and your patience! My conclusion: if my video has two or more srt subtitle streams and I normally wouldn't want any of them to play as default, but e.g. the second would be better than the first, I should set "--srt-default=2" manually or rearrange them to be fut...

Re: Default subtitle problem
Thanks for the explanation! On the one hand I'm sad that it doesn't work (yet), but at least I can stop now trying to figure it out :) Just one more thing: Quicktime - One of the tracks must have the "enabled" flag set, else qt won't show *any* of the subtitle tracks in the subtitle menu. ...

WinGUI (SVN2907) shows wrong display size with custom cropping and loose anamorphic. Step-by-step example: Start Handbrake with the "normal" preset. Load a DVD (PAL). Handbrake shows: Cropping automatic (74:74:0:0), Source: 720x576, Aspect ratio: 1.78, Width: 720 (gray), Height: 428(gray),...
