Just wanted to say "Thanks!" for the hard work you guys put in to keep HandBrake up to date and still the best software package on any OS.

Re: Linux GUI, 6199svn, GtkStack background black?

This is great! I had this exact thing happen to me, but I had no idea how to report this thing without looking crazy. I didn't know what on earth was causing this and I couldn't figure out what I was doing to cause this. I'm so glad this is not just me. Brilliant!

Re: CPU usage on Ubuntu with 0.10.0

Slightly off topic. What Linux distribution do you use? Is your opinion of Ubuntu still the same if it's a spin, like lubuntu or xubuntu? I'm not starting a fanboy war, and you can PM me the answer if you prefer, but I would be curious to learn what might be considered a better Linux distribution.

Re: Sending HandBrake Output to MKVMerge

Honestly, the reason I've not posted this as a bug is because I can't be sure that it's HandBrake's fault. The files seem to play cleaner after remuxing with MKVMerge, but I can't really prove that. Also, I can't remember now, but a long time ago (I've been with this forum for some time now), I reme...

Sending HandBrake Output to MKVMerge

Greetings, In Ubuntu, I used to be able to remux HandBrake output with MKVToolnix's MKVMerge program by using mkvmerge -o "$OUTPUTFILE" "$FILE" where the "$OUTPUTFILE" and "$FILE" stood for placeholders for the output and input filenames in my script. I see th...

Re: Request maximum FLAC compression level

I'd asked this question myself some time ago, which led me to search for this link. http://members.home.nl/w.speek/comparison.htm It seems that space saved from compression level 5 to 8 is negligible, while the encode time goes through the roof. Mind you, HB uses libav instead of flac, so it may be ...

PUT BACK THE FLAC AUDIO OPTION! AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, PUT BACK THE OPTION TO ENCODE TO AN MKV CONTAINER!

Curiosity. Killing cats and alerting users to "Show Advanced Tab" options since 1929.

Preset Resetting with DVD Title Selection

This is on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with a recent nightly (about four days old). If you have a DVD that has multiple titles, and you select one title and then a custom preset and then select another title in that same DVD from the title dropdown list, e.g. title 1 to title 3, the selected custom preset t...

Re: HandBrake 0.10.0 Beta 1 - Discussion Thread

Seconded. The 0.10.1 numbering scheme is for open source projects with no aesthetic sense. After 0.99 comes 1.0. HandBrake is WAY more stable and reliable and feature-rich than any paid software I've ever seen. Go for the brass-ring. Go for 1.0.

Re: Why can't I set a Target Size when converting a video?

@vid.user The OP wants what the OP wants. Wanting a 2 GB target encode isn't a character flaw. Maybe the OP likes to keep movies on a 2 GB USB stick? Who knows? Who cares? As for your statement "I can't believe..." Look at how most video encoding was done within this decade. AutoGordianKno...

Re: Quiet Audio when Changing Format from AC3 to FLAC/AAC/MP

Greetings JohnAStebbins, It's the GUI and I'm on Ubuntu 14.04. (It's weird that the log doesn't include this information.) I hadn't touched the gain setting. I didn't even know it was there until I went looking for it. Perhaps you could replicate the bug by deleting all the default audio streams in ...

Quiet Audio when Changing Format from AC3 to FLAC/AAC/MP3

Greetings, The stereo encode from AC3 to flac/aac/mp3 is much quieter than its original AC3 counterpart. I don't remember this being the case. Please would you look into this? Re: MP3 bitrate not respected

Here's a handy workaround I found for turning file formats, especially stereo files into formats that meet your exact requirements. Encode the audio portion in stereo FLAC and store it in a .mkv container. Then extract the audio portion using MKVToolnix. Convert the .flac file into whatever format y...

Re: Blocky artifacts in deep shadows

Hi JohnAStebbins, What was the reason for bumping up the bframes to 4 here? Why not 5 or the standard 3? I have been using these settings and I really like the results. I understand the aq-strength adjustment, but not the reason for the b-frames. I dislike these types of artifacts as well. They are ...

Hey there, NOYB111. Seriously. You've posted seven times so far and not a single encode log so far. No one knows what settings you're using. Post an encode log already.

FDK AAC Frequency Limit

A bug over at dbpoweramp got me curious http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?30538-m4a-FDK-AAC-Encoder&p=135473&viewfull=1#post135473 , so I tried it out on HandBrake. There's a bug they fixed in dbpoweramp where the upper frequencies in the FDK AAC encoder was for some reason limited ...
