Convert DTS to AAC/AC3 automatically?
I've got some movies with DTS audio which I'd like to automatically convert to preferable AAC/AC3 with as little work as possible. :) Anyone knows of an automated tool that can do something like this? Convert all audiostreams in file to an AAC or AC3 with equal amount of channels, if possible and re...

2-pass encoding with hardware encoder thoughts
As far as I know, there hardware encoding (NVidia, Intel) is not capable of doing 2-pass encodes. Would it be possible with some sort of workaround, let the CPU do the first pass and then let GPU/whatever do the "second pass" only?

HB 1.6 and AC3 passthrough configuration
What is the correct way to configure HB to add "AC3 passthrough" as default for audio? No matter that I do, it always says "AAC (avcodec)" (Audio-tab) instead of "AC3 passthrough". Never recalled I had this problem with HB <1.6 though.. I probably don't understand the s...

Encoding old DVD's, problems with deinterlacing(?)
I'm often struggling with encoding old tv-series NTSC DVD's from the 80/90's. I try deinterlacing and well, most of the parts looks good, but parts here and there in episodes looks bad and "Jumpy". If I change deinterlacing method, I break some parts and fix others. I've doubled the framer...

Re: Converting HDR UHD material
If I use the current stable Handbrake 1.3.3 and convert an HDR movie, what kind of result will I end up with (encoding to 8-bit or 10-bit..)?

Converting HDR UHD material
If I want to convert HDR UHD material is there something I need to think of? How does Handbrake handle HDR-stuff? If I encode a HDR UHD movie to x.265 10-bit, will the quality be "the same" (except for compression loss of course).

Re: Converting 4K HDR content
Just noticed that playback in VLC of my HDR->SDR conversion looked good. Directplay in Plex looked good aswell, but during transcoding in Plex Media Server, it looks really washed out. Looks like a Plex-issue but would be interesting to know if I can adapt my encodes to make it look proper even in P...

Re: Converting 4K HDR content
If I'm not that interested in HDR, is there a way to get the colors "back", so to speak, in Handbrake and just store the file in 8-bit mode?

Converting 4K HDR content
So I want to convert my UHD "The Goonies" to have it on my computer. The question, the sourcematerial is HDR-stuff, do I need to bother about this when encoding with Handbrake? I think the result (when testing) looks slightly washed out on my computerscreen. Not sure if that's a "prob...

Re: Ai upscaling - 1080p to 8k to 1080p
I've experimented a bit with "TopazLabs Video Enhance AI". It's pretty promising but I think it works best on animated/CGI material at the moment. I upscaled one of my animated DVD's to 1080p for a test and it looks really good. It has pretty good sharpening/noise-removing-stuff implemente...

But I’ve encoded from a blu-ray and that’s a 8-bit source right?

Banding/quality issues in 8-bit modes
I did some encoding tests with Handbrake 1.3.2. The reason is that I'm seeing very obvious banding issues in my encodes (well from time to time, in older versions aswell). I think the encodes almost looks broken sometimes. I noticed the problems goes away completely if I encode in 10-bit modes inste...

Intel Core i9 9900K & Intel QuickSync
"Intel QuickSync Encoders" is disabled in Handbrake 1.3.0 on my Windows 10 machine, running a i9 9900K. The CPU should have QuickSync, are there any other system requirements for using QuickSync? I've installed latest graphicsdrivers but it doesn't seem to matter.

Re: i9 9900K, HEVC @ 4K30 performance
I didn't see any noticable improvement with encoding a local file. But ok, I guess I have to live with <10fps, although, I expected alot more from this CPU, but I didn't do that much research about this so..

Forgot to mention (sorry, couldn't find a post-edit feature), I'm using Handbrake 1.2.2.. Intel QuickSync is btw disabled in preferences, this should be available for this CPU aswell?

i9 9900K, HEVC @ 4K30 performance
Just got myself a new computer with an Intel I9 9900K (running Windows 10) and was hoping for miracles in encoding 4K HEVC videos. However when encoding 4K30 HEVC with "medium" preset I get about 8-9fps encodingspeed. Has anyone else tried 4K HEVC encoding with this CPU? Would be interesti...

Hardware encoding quality
I've tried the hardware encoders supported by Handbrake (h264/h265). It's very fast but the quality is lower than using the software-encoder. My question is, is this quality a limitation of the hardware itself or can we expect better quality with future versions of Handbrake? Rendering h.265 at 50fp...

Re: How do I encode this file?
I attached the log to my first post..
EDIT: Checked the file again. It stutters somewhat in VLC but plays back fine in the built-in mediaplayer in Windows 10. Odd! Sorry for wasting your time.

How do I encode this file?
I got a movie from a blu-ray disc which has the specs mentioned below. However when I try to encode it, it gets kind of jerky and I wonder why. I've stumbled upon similar kind of stuff with interlaced material but this doesn't seem interlace.. Or is it? Mediainfo doesn't mention interlaced but says ...

Re: Ripping BR/DVD as HEVC 10/12-bit?
Perhaps a stupid question but if Handbrake only supports 8-bit, there's still 10/12-bit options available for HEVC-encoding. What's the point of that?

Ripping BR/DVD as HEVC 10/12-bit?
Is there a reason to encode BR/DVD-rips as 10/12-bits HEVC? I don't think there is but still I am not sure if there's a quality-gain of some sort...?
