Re: Misc Frames Randomly Occure Compressing Joined MP4ss

That's a problem with your joiner. Especially since you say it's faster than mkvmerge, which is regarded as fast for doing it the right way, it's probably doing it the wrong way. Garbage in, garbage out. Also the version of HB you're using it unsupported. It's faster than MKV Merge only because it ...

OK... I'm gaslighting myself. I watched one of the odd files again... and the problem wasn't there. So is it a problem with my VLC viewer?

Misc Frames Randomly Occure Compressing Joined MP4ss

Description of problem or question: I've used HB now for 10 years and never come across this problem. I use a joiner to combine mp4 video from my camera then use HB to compress them. But these last encodes have had some odd transitions between those files. File 1 will be OK, then there will be 8-9 ...

Re: How Efficient Is h256 encoder?

Thank you for sharing your impressions. You feel you didn't need to share even your source resolution, fps, and bitrate? Sorry about that. It was a general question. I'm years behind in compressing old videos. Source: an older $200 Canon camera... 25fps, a whopping 19.6kbs for 720p AVC according to...

Re: How Efficient Is h256 encoder?

Limited devices for playing back h265 is the reason I don't yet use it. And yes, I'm compressing 720p so maybe that explains what's going on here. I shoot way too much video on vacations... sometimes 150 clips a day... and 15 years worth is piling up which is why I don't shoot higher than 720p. If I...

How Efficient Is h256 encoder?

This is a general question so I'm not going to post logs. Because I have limited storage I compress videos from my Canon camera at 2000-2500-3000k using h264. I evaluate videos by taking a screenshot of the same frame at different bitrates to compare results in VLC using no filters... and as could b...

I think many people will agree that RF 20-22 should look a lot better for your 720p footage than 3,000 Kbps CBR.
RF20 produces a file the same size as the original.

All these years I thought 2 pass CBR produced the best quality for any given average bitrate. That's not true?

Re: HB "dulls" videos

Here are some screen shots

Original https://ibb.co/jfnqrG2

encoded https://ibb.co/yhWTTww

Note the original is a bit brighter... it's as if HB dulls the colors a bit. It's not that noticeable unless one compares the two.

Any explanation... or suggestions, would be appreciated.

HB "dulls" videos

Description of problem or question: I use HB to compress videos shot on my Canon camera. But when comparing screenshots the original always seems more vivid than the compressed version. Note I'm using custom settings... usually 3000k h264 for 720p videos at the "very slow" encoding settin...

Re: Incomplete Encodes At 4000k

The file is only 46 seconds long. These odd happenings began yesterday. I was merging some original files for compression and HB was balking at some of those larger files... comprising of about 5-6 original files. I can't go past that because of audio sync problems. But this file was an original sin...

Incomplete Encodes At 4000k

Please describe the problem in as much detail as possible: I was compressing some old videos shot on my Canon 120 Sureshot... a dog of a camera that shot 480p mjpeg video @ 15mbs. Re: No Fast P Skip... where is it? Anything better?

Pretty much. libx264 has undergone many major improvements in both speed and quality since the version bundled with Handbrake 0.9.3 and the consensus is that no-fast-pskip very slightly improves quality at a large speed cost. As such, it's recommended in most cases to leave it at it's default of di...

Re: No Fast P Skip... where is it? Anything better?

If you want to convince the Devs to bring in a "no-fast-p-skip" option you're much better of making a number of different encodings using a recent nightly build with and without this option, then publishing the result. Arguing using only anecdotal data isn't that useful to start with and ...

Re: No Fast P Skip... where is it? Anything better?

It was removed from the GUI's to make room more than a year ago now. Greetings Ted! I liked HB for XVID so I never updated past v.9.3 until yesterday. I hope I can run both versions. Given that No Fast P Skip is such an important setting to maintain quality, I think it should be returned. A simple ...

No Fast P Skip... where is it? Anything better?

Back a year or two ago I started using an older version of HB to encode some DVDs to mp4. I'd tried other programs but in difficult and grainy scenes they looked blocky even at higher bitrates. I finally found that they lacked something HB had... the no fast P skip option. This allowed for the sort ...

Can Files Be Merged?

While I thought HB was the best H264 encoder out there, I had to stop using it when I switched from a Kodak camera that shot .mov video to a Canon that shot .avi. The old .9.3 version of HB just could not sync the audio and video. But I'm happy to find that the new version of HB encodes these Canon ...

Re: What no Xvid - Is Handbrake only for the wealthy

So I guess everybody can afford to upgrade there laptops, mine is a Latitude D410 and is not that old butt is not powerful enough to play x264. I also use Xvid at a fairly high bitrate as its a lot quicker to encode. A real shame, I guess I will have to go back to the previous version. I, too, thin...

XVID, AVI, AVCHD repost

There was NO need to lock my previous thread. I was NOT asking for support. This was a general forum so I posted here. I was just asking if this was a known problem with XVID in v.0.9.3. If it is, there are far more capable DIVX/XVID encoders out there like AVIDEMUX. I just happen to like the decomb...

Old Issue With XVID in v0.9.3

I know XVID and AVI are discontinued in the latest version of HandBrake... but I still use the old v.0.9.3 because I'm finding out that almost no Blu-Ray players support data disks with H264 files (except PS3) as I hoped... which makes me wonder will there ever be support for AVCHD? In the mean time...

[Known] CMD Window: Not A Bug... an Annoyance

In future releases I wish the CMD window would not jump to the top when a file is finished in the queue. When I'm typing in a program like Word, and the CMD window opens... it steals the cursor and I find myself typing there and it deletes all the info on file progress. For instance now I've no idea...
