Dolby Digital is on. If I convert the DVD with AC3 audio only, then it works

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

I converted one DVD using the latest svn and my receiver doesn't automatically recognize the ac3 stream. Instead, it finds the Dolby Prologic track and plays it! If I encode the ac3 track only, then everything works ok.

Re: Why not support mkv and avi as input format?

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll have to stick with Visual Hub for the moment. I hope that Handbrake will offer this feature sometime in the future.

Why not support mkv and avi as input format?

I find Handbrake a great program but as time passes by, DVDs play a less significant role in my movies collection. I have many mkv and avi files which I would like to convert to mp4 for my AppleTV.. Currently my only option to do that is Visual Hub. Are there any plans whatsoever to support the abov...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

I got a "invalid sample description" in quicktime (and itunes wouldn't add) using base atv settings with the change to selecting the mp4/ac3 option using build 1265. I'm trying a different DVD to make sure it wasn't the movie. Anyone else experience this? I know svn is not supported just ...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

It will be well worth the wait. Speaking of my already-encoded DVDs: How noticeable is the difference between Dolby Prologic II and DD 5.1? On a 5.1 channel entertainment system? The difference is very big. Dolby Digital sounds much better... DTS is actually better than Dolby Digital and its sad th...

Re: AppleTV to support Dolby5.1 Natively

AC3 in a mov container works! Here is how I did it: Open an existing mp4 (I used a handbrake rip) file in QT player. Open an ac3 soundtrack in QT player. Paste the ac3 soundtrack into the mp4 file Export the movie as a self contained Quicktime movie. Import the movie in iTunes. I seriously doubt th...

I had the same issues with Deja Vu and I solved them by encoding from the command line. Deja Vu works ok now.

The file created by EyeTV can be used with no issues in iTunes. Artwork, Metadata, everything works. What I found really cool is that although the file has a bit rate of 4300kbps!!! - streaming works great!

4GB Limit???

I knew that quicktime cannot play h.264 files bigger than 4GB. Sometimes, it did happen and the encoded file was bigger than 4GB and Quicktime couldnt open it. This file was encoded with handbrake. I recorded a TV Show this weekend with Eye TV and exported it to the Apple TV. The file is 5,9GB and Q...

Using the same bit rate the difference quality is big! I also didnt want at first to use the h.264 encoder but now mpeg4 is no option for me...H.264 looks fantastic on my HDTV, better than DVD!
