Re: Copy and merge video streams - lossless operation
As far as I'm aware: There are cases during encoding where audio and video can become out of sync. To get back in sync, HandBrake removes or duplicates video frames, because it's a lot less noticeable than repeating a slice of audio or inserting a chunk of silence. With video passthrough, if the aud...

Re: help resizing/encoding blu-ray rip
There's a common misconception that "Large file size" means "make this file large", or something similar, so people are wary of it. All it means is "allow files that are larger than 4GB (and it is 4GB specifically) to be playable on devices that support it" (some older ...

If you don't post what the problem was and how you solved it, this thread is worthless.

Re: How to burn current-time/duration info during transcodin
HandBrake is ultimately a video converter, not a video editor. There have been a lot of requests (including from me) that HandBrake manipulate the video/audio somehow before transcoding it, to save a step, and frankly, the developers aren't interested. You'd be better off adding any captions you wan...

I don't know where my head was at. I meant NTSC. Sorry about that. I edited the previous post.

Re: Strange horizontal tearing on DVD rips
Instead of either of those two, it's likely that you want to turn on detelecine. The wiki also covers what detelecine is.
Generally, for NTSC sources, it's best to keep detelecine on; and for all sources, to keep decomb on.

Re: Set target size
...it's a function that people actually need. I think there has been one guy in the history of HandBrake since target file size was dropped who actually needed it. He was looking to attach a video to an email, but attachments could not exceed 10MB. And he knew that the video would be heavily compre...

Maybe try a few other colour schemes. Red on blue (or blue on red) is notoriously hard to read.

Re: if input is xxx.avi, why does it check for Blu-Ray and D
In zeddy's defence, it is off-putting to look through the log and see so many errors, all to do with opening the file. It makes it look like every non-DVD/BluRay is corrupt in some way. It would be more pleasant if the messages went something like "checking to see if DVD... no" rather than...

Re: Way to upsize 720 to 1080?
Your average gamer shouldn't be upscaling video. Have you considered what will happen to the non-1080p versions of the video if you upload an upscaled version. Take the 720p version, for example. Ordinarily, YouTube would take it as it, or possibly re-encode it. But if you give it a blown-up 1080p v...

The leaves are very good: but the body could possibly do with more detail or texture. And I guess it could be made slightly less orange and slightly more brown.

Re: Handbrake Crashing: The Avengers
How do I try just doing a Title-specific rip? I tried track 35 and it did not encode the movie in a correct order. Any other track suggestion? I wouldn't blindly take matador's advice regarding which title to rip mind you as it's not uncommon for several versions of the DVD to be released in each t...

Love it! I much prefer the artistic style of that than of meathead's already popular entry; and the shapes are much closer to, if not exactly the same as, the current logo.

Does each video also exist on the DVD as a separate title? If so, you can import each title individually and the previews will be specific to it.

Re: Downsize video
Open it in HandBrake, pick a preset (e.g. High Profile), click the 'convert' button. Depending on the video (dimensions, amount of grain/movement), the resulting file size could be anywhere between, say, 2MB and 20MB - well under your target.

This is why we have programs like Subler. If you have a Mac, you can use that. I wonder if it's possible to write a CLI wrapper for Subler so it can run under Windows.

If you're encoding NTSC content (i.e. if it's likely to be telecined) then turn detelecine on. If you're encoding PAL, which isn't, then make sure it's off.
