Re: Handbrake crashes on encode

Right, I realize that. I guess it's semantics. What I mean by "ripper" is that it converts the video on a DVD to a movie file format. I do use MactheRIpper sometimes when I have a lot of files.. But how is that related to the VLC thing? If I don't have VLC on my computer, can I put in a DVD and take...

Re: Handbrake crashes on encode

A notice at startup seems good enough to me as well. What's most surprising to me is just the concept that handbrake's primary purpose is *not* a DVD ripper. It'd be interesting to take a survey of handbrake users to see how they're using it. ok, here's the log. HandBrake Activity Log for /Users/dav...

Re: Handbrake crashes on encode

Handbrake was never really a DVD ripper. It is a media file extractor & converter with a nice GUI and a useful batch queue. The fact that it was also able to decrypt DVDs for a while was a nice feature, but it makes more sense to just let the VLC libraries handle that. It offers two benefits: 1. By...

Re: Handbrake crashes on encode

They do tell people, right there on the front page. Scroll down to where it says "No more DVD decryption." It confuses a lot of people though. It's not on the download page though, and it's not obvious on the front page. Handbrake is famous for the ability to rip DVDs. But now... it doesn't. And th...

Re: Handbrake crashes on encode

1. Which version of OS X do you have installed? The current release of HB is for 10.5 only. The crash you are describing sounds exactly what happened to me when I tried to run 0.9.3 on a Mac running 10.4. If that's the problem, either upgrade your Mac or use HB version 9.1 I'm on 10.5.6 2. Do you h...

Ok here's a movie of the crash, along with the activity log. http://www.exit42design.com/stuff/HandB ... apz001.mov

And here's a screenshot right before the crash.

Handbrake crashes on encode

I've been having a really frustrating time with this latest handbrake (0.9.3), and my brother in law is too. For a while, *any* dvd or file I tried to encode would not rip. It would just sit there at "encoding: pass 1 of 1" and not move, even after hours. I App Zapped handbrake (got rid of applicati...

Re: DMG Errors?

If your on panther (10.3.9) you cant open it. The GUI is not Panther compliant. If you on Tiger, then I am not sure what the issue is. I'm on Tiger (10.4.9) PPC. I'll try a different machine and see what happens. I'm sure there would be many more posts if there were something wrong with the file. U...
