Predict encoding size
Description of problem or question: Hi! I wonder if there is an easy way of calculating the resulting size of an encoding? I mostly aim for a size between 4 to 5 Gb for my mkv:s. The problem is that I have to try and error by adjusting the RF slider until I get the size that I want. Is there an eas...

Re: Subtitles (Vobsub) enormous and misplaced
Problem solved now :-). This is what I had to do. Extract vobsub streams with suitable software onto HD. Each subtitle resulted in two files, (.sub and .idx) Run HandBrake on movie to reduce movie file size, using the MKV container in my case. Import extracted vobsub files into the newly shrunken M...

Re: Subtitles (Vobsub) enormous and misplaced
Your source was already cropped by whoever uploaded it. Well, I have remuxed the movie streams into a MKV container without any issues, using another software. The problems begins when I use HandBrake to reduce (transcode) it's size. I would prefer to have a smaller file, but If this isn't possible...

Re: Subtitles (Vobsub) enormous and misplaced
That's a player issue - the subtitle track is passed through without change from source to output. Perhaps VLC is handling it differently because the original container was MP4, and the new one is MKV. Yes, maybe so. But then i guess if I run it again without cropping or change of resolution I will...

Re: Subtitles (Vobsub) enormous and misplaced
OK, handbrake is passing the subtitles through without changing them: [21:23:31] * subtitle track 1, Spanish (track 6, id 0x12) Picture [VOBSUB] -> Passthrough, Default [21:23:31] * subtitle track 2, Swedish (track 9, id 0x15) Picture [VOBSUB] -> Passthrough Strange that a bluray rip would have DVD...

Re: Subtitles (Vobsub) enormous and misplaced
Also, what are you using to play the file? I'm always using VLC to test my files after transcoding them in Handbrake. Here comes the handbrake log: [21:18:13] macgui: Handbrake Version: 1.0.2 (2017012200) [21:18:13] hb_init: starting libhb thread [21:18:13] hb_init: starting libhb thread [21:18:18]...

Re: Subtitles (Vobsub) enormous and misplaced
Sorry about that, I'm starting a new transcoding right now to produce a new log file.
I'm posting it as soon as possible.
Thanks again.

Subtitles (Vobsub) enormous and misplaced
Hi all! I have a problem with my last movie conversion. The source file is a 1080p mp4 movie with multiple audio and subtitles. I need to convert the movie to occupy less space on my HD. So I use the matroska preset (H.264 MKV 1080p30). When handbrake has finished the conversion, everything works ju...

Re: subs and mkv
Sorry if i was unclear about this, but i haven't been playing around a lot with mkv contained media. I'll try to explain one more time, English is not my first language, but i guess that Swedish isn't going to make things easier either  . Ok, here we go: The last hd movie i watched was indeed ...

subs and mkv
Hi guys! I hope this question hasn't been asked before, sorry if i missed it in that case, (i did search for it). I know that HB support hard coded subs from a dvd source. But i think it would be great if you could hard code a sub that is embedded in a mkv file too, so i guess my question is: Is it ...
