Re: Audio encoder settings and presets
True, but what I've noticed is that it doesn't seem to adjust the bitrate. If I choose 7.1 as the default and it's compressing a file that only has stereo then it will still show the 7.1 bitrate, ie, AAC 768kbps, but with stereo audio. Maybe that's just a UI issue, but it would be a real waste of sp...

Audio encoder settings and presets
I've been tinkering with audio settings for batch encodes. On DVD rips I'm fine leaving it with the 160kbps stereo AAC default, but I'm looking to batch encode some Blu-Rays. I've been tinkering with the presets but find myself wishing that things could be more fine-grained. Sure, I can get it to de...

Does Handbrake not support recursing through folders for batch encodes?
I'm trying to use Handbrake to encode a vast swath of video files. Many of these are broken down into numerous folders within folders. I'd like to have Handbrake simply scan the root directory, recurse through the folders, grab all video files within them, and let me run a single batch that will pre...

Re: Deinterlacing quality on animation is very, very poor
If I recall correctly, they took the progressive 23.976 fps source and baked in some non-standard telecine to 29.97. So most IVTC algorithms can't figure out how to undo it. There may even be some additional step in there making it worse; I forget. Shame, it's a great show. Yeah, I found a writeup ...

Re: Deinterlacing quality on animation is very, very poor
Futurama is known to have been mastered extremely poorly in this regard. It's one of the most difficult sources to deal with due to an awful hard telecine. It's certainly not a HandBrake problem; it's the source. Try turning on detelecine. Then add default interlacing detection and EEDI2 decomb pre...

Re: Deinterlacing quality on animation is very, very poor
Logs won't help much in this case as it's common to the deinterlacing algorithms regardless of other compression settings. It's plainly visible in the preview window, no full compression needed, doesn't matter what codec, bitrate, quality level, or anything else is used. Any deinterlacing algorithm ...

Deinterlacing quality on animation is very, very poor
This is with Handbrake 1.0.7, Mac OS 10.2.3, although I doubt that this is platform-specific. The issue I'm having is with the Futurama DVD sets, particularly earlier seasons. They're definitely interlaced. My understanding is that certain deinterlacing algorithms in Handbrake are supposed to be sel...

Re: iPod 5G and resolutions
Yep, custom anamorphic at 640x480 works and looks correct on the iPod's screen and a TV. It seems a bit counter-intuitive as it's a widescreen movie and 640x480 is a 4:3 aspect ratio, but I suppose that's how some of the underlying bits handle anamorphic.

iPod 5G and resolutions
I apologize in advance if this is easily-found here, but I've been digging and haven't turned up anything yet... I've recently decided to breathe some new life into my old iPod 5.5G. I tossed a new battery into it and installed a 256GB SD card kit. Now I'd like to rip my video library to this sucker...

Re: Handbrake .9.9 stalling at 99.9x% after numerous queue j
Nope, overnight encode has been locked up for about 5 hours at 99.99% with the nightly build. If I pause it and try to resume, it won't resume. In fact, I can't get anything else to really work. The application is responsive, menus work, but telling it to actually do much of anything gets me nowhere...

Re: Handbrake .9.9 stalling at 99.9x% after numerous queue j
Trying the nightly build now for an overnight batch. With the intermittent nature, it may take a few days to determine whether the problem is gone or not.
And I may be mistaken, but I think the nightly build is a bit faster than .9.9, too.

Handbrake .9.9 stalling at 99.9x% after numerous queue jobs
Version: .9.9, x64 Downloaded From: Handbrake.fr Platform: Mac OS 10.8.5 Log: See bottom Other Applications Used: Irrelevant. I've seen it happen on overnight encodes with nothing else running. Reproduceable: Not really. It seems rather random, but I've only seen it on jobs that are several movies i...

Re: Transferring to iPhone, iPod, or iPad
What GregiBoy said. Is VLC installed to your Applications folder? Handbrake uses this to get around copy protection without building that capability directly in. Make sure you have the latest version in your Applications folder, and I believe you have to fire it up at least once. He's running Windo...

Re: Maintaining Quality While Moving Among Devices
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will pursue them. It seems the biggest bottleneck is the DVR, which is a component of the cable box from the cable company. I may not have too many options short of replacement. The cables seem to be the option that is most readily useable for televisions on t...

Re: Maximum iPhone 4S quality
Yeah, I suppose that's the next step. I'll play around with the values on the RF slider and see what I can get. In the meantime, any suggestions on further refinements under the advanced tab or additional arguments for the command line that can boost quality at the expense of encoding time? I don't ...

Re: Maximum iPhone 4S quality
I realize that the iPhone can't display 1080p on its own screen, but I have the HDMI adapter and have plans for its use, so I want them at full resolution for display on TVs. Otherwise I'd just halve the dimensions and scale it to the resolution of the iPhone screen. 1080p video isn't really my prob...

Maximum iPhone 4S quality
I recently got an iPhone 4S and I'm loving that I can output 1080p high profile H.264s. I've monkeyed with the presets and have a few BluRay rips crammed down to about 4GB with excellent quality. I'm using every setting I can on the Advanced tab. To give you an idea of how much, it takes about 16 ho...

Handbrake 0.94 and high bitrate iPod encodes
I'm just wondering if Handbrake will now natively support high bitrate (over 1.5Mbps) H.264 iPod encodes. It could do it previously, but required additional parameters in the advanced field. If it doesn't yet do that automatically, is there a specific preset available? Also, in the past, I've encode...

Re: Handbrake and Quicktime files
Got it. It works, but I still don't get anywhere near the same level of control over the format as I do in Handbrake.Ritsuka wrote:You can uses x264 in compressor too, there is a quicktime component available: http://www003.upp.so-net.ne.jp/mycometg3/

Handbrake and Quicktime files
I've noticed that Handbrake doesn't seem to mesh with Quicktime formats too well. For instance, I have some 1080 files from Final Cut. I've found Compressor to be far too limited and the quality is mediocre. I'd like to try encoding them with Handbrake, but Handbrake wont open them. I'm guessing tha...

New naming defaults, dangit!
I've done this several times now, and it's really, really irritating and only makes Handbrake more of a pain. I'll add several tracks from a DVD to a queue, go to bed, get up in the morning, and find only one file. Why? Because Handbrake names EVERY TRACK THE SAME THING, and overwrites each file! Yo...
