Greetings. I'm bumping this thread in the hopes that someone who has good knowledge on this can help us out. AAC 5.1, my goal in converting the AC3 5.1, is a mysterious animal. I too have been backing up my AC3 5.1 tracks in the hopes that the future will provide a reliable converting app so I can l...

leVnikolaïeVitch: I would venture to say that your settings verge rather on the "insane" side at any rate. No, not accusing you of being insane - it's a term used among the experienced encoders when high amounts of B or reference frames are used and the like. You may not need that much to ...

I helped someone with a similar problem here but that was easy. Could it be the case of a resolution adjustment with you too?

Hi again, Well, what you're basically asking for is how to get the best quality from your rips (and even though you have the storage, a decent file size would be nice). There is no direct answer for this because it's taste, but I can recommend a few things. And you don't need to buy software either....

Re: The future

I would hate to start the process all over again in january when I find out that the resulting file was not working correctly! That would certainly suck and be quite the rude awakening. I don't blame your defensive posture. What I would do if I were you is encode a few samples, large and small and ...

For VHS, consider one of the combo VHS/DVD Recorders. I use a Panasonic and get excellent quality H.264 using essentially your formula with the initial VHS->DVD-RW step. Hey Michael. That's almost exactly what I do too. I can connect the VCR into my DVR and it's virtually similar to a VHS/DvD recor...

My opinion is this - if you want to archive and keep video for the future then H.264 at the highest settings is worth the extra time for the extra quality and the compatibility of the future. But if you are encoding something only for a quick view on an iPod or something like that - not for archivin...

Re: How to make non-anamorphic >720x*** rips?

No problem with any apps that are worth using. Including the iPod and even Apple TV, QuickTime for anamorphic content that wasn't encoded with HandBrake? But even so, I can relate. MacinJosh, I too had a similar concern about anamorphic and compatibility and archiving like you do. Do I encode in an...

Am I the only one that finds this post confusing? Do you mean a) that HandBrake doesn't encode the files properly on the Macbook? -OR- b) files that worked on the Macbook Pro don't load into iPod from your Macbook? -OR- c) something I don't understand. If it's a) and you're using the same settings f...

I'm a bit confused. What exactly do you want to do? What hardware are you using for playback and what kind of attachment to your TV? Why AVI? The MP4 container is just fine for QuickTime. Now if you were talking about encoding the file to Xvid and playing it through a certified DivX/Xvid player on y...

The real truth is that H.264 wasn't really built for today's machines at all, but for those far ahead. We, as enthusiasts of the codec, are ahead of the masses. I'm sure someone thought of a concept like H.264 20 years ago, but back then it seemed like a dream because it would probably take 6 months...

Be creative guys. I will explain this again like on other posts. I have a 100% success rate in finding the titles I want on every DvD you can throw at me - commercial, homemade, music videos, tv episodes. The secret is just a few more steps, but this would cut about 50% of the questions on this foru...

Re: Transfering Handbrake mp4s from Mac to PC

Are mp4's just like mp3's where i can put the files on a cd or flashdrive and transfer them into my PC itunes? Yes. If these MP4s worked on one platform (Mac or PC), and don't work on the other, it has nothing to do with the video or audio streams. It could be a number of things such as playback ap...

Would FFMPG X be the equivelent of Project X for Windows? Or does HB already incorporate all the features of FFMPG X? So make sure CRF is checked in preferences and set the CQ to 65% max right? I can't comment on CQ since I have little experience with it and I'm on Windows so things are a bit different with the HB GUI there. But, as Cavalicious said, CRF is the way to go as is my opinion too. CQ is an older method...

The reason your readings are showing a faster ETA at the start is mostly mathematics. Your processor isn't slowing down, it's just that the complex mathematics converge on a more accurate ETA display over a little time when more data is collected. As well, the truth may hurt. Sounds like your "...
