Re: PGS subtitles that are not burned-in do not get scaled

I should add that while adding a PGS encoder is certainly feasible, there's already enough on our respective TO-DO lists that I don't care to add one, so it's at the very least very low-priority. All hardware players I've tested are perfectly capable of scaling the subtitles after decoding, BTW. Un...

[Invalid]PGS subtitles not burned-in do not get scaled

Given a 1080p MPEG-TS stream with PGS subtitles as the source, if the target is smaller than 1080p (lets say 720p) and subtitle tracks are added without the burn-in option, PGS subtitles are passed through as-is instead of being scaled. The result is that when playing in VLC for example, the subtitl...

Re: PGS Subtitles

Now that this is committed, let me know if I should move this discussion to a separate thread. I tested this last night and detection of the PGS subtitle tracks as well as burned-in subtitles worked perfectly, but I wasn't able to get a non-burned subtitle track to work. I don't know if HB or VLC/Qu...

Re: BD PGS Subtitles

There are two attached patches above, it would probably be a good place to start in terms of looking at which files they modify and then seeing what's left to do.

Note: I didn't actually run this to verify it functions correctly, but this should get you started: #!/bin/bash # Setup some variables for use later hbcli="/Applications/HandBrake/HandBrakeCLI" thisdir="$(pwd)" convertdir="$thisdir/convert" # mkdir -p creates the directory or silently exists if it e...

Re: What are te best stttings to rip dvds?

Which iPod model are you trying to target? The settings required for each vary. For example, newer iPod Touches and iPhones support anamorphic 720p HD media very well, but older models will not. For older iPods you're better off targeting a resolution of something like 320x240. Fwiw, if you're looki...

Re: Question about subtitles, forced or otherwise

A good trick if it doesn't work is to load up VLC and then check which subtitle track is playing from the Playback (or is it Video?) menu. It will usually say something like "Track 6 - English". Then simply choose the 6th subtitle track in HB as burned-in.

Re: Predicted speed increase

For what it's worth, I would recommend an i5-2500k if you're looking for a cost-effective transcoding CPU. I recently purchased one and it over clocked very easily to 4.0GHz on air cooling (used a cheap $20 Cooler Master Hyper 212+ aftermarket cooler) and it rips through transcodes. I'll post more d...

[Future] [WinGUI] Configurable minimum title length for scan

It would be awesome if HandBrake had a configurable minimum title length for the scan. Some BD discs have 200+ titles so scanning can take anywhere from a few seconds to 1m at times (especially if you're already encoding). I think the default at the moment is 30s, so HandBrake ends up spending time ...

Re: BD PGS Subtitles

John, do you think this will be finished within a few months? I'm debating if I should wait a few months for transcoding Lost or if I should go ahead for now without subtitles and re-transcode later when support is added.

BTW thanks for the great job on BD support, that has been a huge help!

Re: Unencrypted Bluray support

Just downloaded the latest Windows GUI nightly (r3510) and tested it on a few of the blu-rays I have (no encryption). In most cases, HB scanned detected the titles and begun scanning through them but then stopped midway and saying "No title(s) found". In one case HandBrakeCLI.exe crashed. I can prov...

Re: Multiple instances/one encode per cpu setting please!!

I would agree, removing the restriction in the GUI would be great. I have no problems using the CLI but I think the message should be a warning (such as "There is another HB instance running already. Continue?") and not an error that prevents you from starting another encode.

Re: Batch encode a folder of videos

I just came across this thread while searching on Google, and I just wanted to mention that although it isn't possible from the GUI, batch encoding videos in folders is very easy to do thanks to the flexible HandBrake command line interface. The CLIGuide has some more information, but essentially yo...
