Re: MacGui mem "leak" w large queues, persists, #1148

@Rodeo, thanks. Is there anything to be drawn from the difference in HB behavior as observed - CLI and gui just seem to be handling memory so differently. Different calls to same libraries? Different calls to different libraries? I'll admit my findings are anecdotal thus far, so tell me what I can d...

Re: MacGui mem "leak" w large queues, persists, #1148

@s5 -- thanks. Looks like better memory management would require a lot of HB being re-written in Objective C, given my cursory glance at the code. I suspect that is not in the cards for HB. Nevertheless, good link here on how many of the advanced memory management "features" of OS X are now auto-add...

Re: MacGui mem "leak" w large queues, persists, #1148

Ted, the memory is chewed up so quickly by MacGUI that the "queuing" portion of my description is irrelevant: all free ram is consumed, and, by virtue of memory handling, is labeled inactive inside of 20 minutes on the first transcode. Didn't see that behavior from CLI earlier today, but seeing some...

Re: Generate CLI options from GUI options?

This isn't a little polish, this is an obscure feature request for a niche group of users who are generally well equipped to handle the task on their own. Funny, I have spent a good 4 hours of elapsed time today trying to get CLI to replicate something easily done in MacGui, and longed for the same...

Re: MacGui mem "leak" w large queues, persists, #1148

Thanks all for the replies. @all: HandBrakeCLI does not have this problem -- at all. In fact, while running a big encode right now, free memory increased, which is what you'd expect if there is a GC process re-labeling previously-used/now-inactive ram as Free. The fact that HandbrakeCLI does NOT hav...

Re: MacGui mem "leak" w large queues, persists, #1148

Update: at minute 16, free memory was 10MB, Inactive was 10.1 GB, and frames / second were down about 40% from average. Hit pause, purge, and will resume again. Yes, I should be able to just rely on paging in / out to get through this, but I never trust that everything will stay upright and locked w...

MacGui mem "leak" w large queues, persists, #1148

Not sure how best to report this bug, so please respond: (a) if this should be reported as a bug, and (b) where you'd like me to document it properly. Situation: MacGui, nightly #1148, iMac i7 w/16GB, transcoding .mkv into ipod-friendly (1/50th size) versions, queue of 2 - 8 .mkvs to transcode Probl...

AppleTV 5.1 and SDH

Respectfully, will SDH in AppleTV 5.1 change our subtitle options?

Has anyone played with subtitles in 5.1, yet?

Thx, TC

Re: CLI + ATV 2 preset = no chapter markers

I'm seeing Hazel munge my parms for Handbrake CLI, which I suspect is why certain things aren't being done....

Chapters are clearly there when I run the command manually from bash prompt.

Mods, please delete.

Re: Tips Please: Eliminating Jaggies on ATV 2 profile

Getting a log via CLI & Hazel wasn't that hard.... and I'll be damned -- something in my shell script is getting munged, as demonstrated by the log output. snippet of log from manual encode with Handbrake -- all settings exactly as expected, and preset clearly = my submission [14:47:06] macgui: Pres...

CLI + ATV 2 preset = no chapter markers

I'm using the Apple TV 2 preset in CLI 0.96 and noticing that my output doesn't have chapter markers, despite the "-m" parameter that is present in the Apple TV 2 preset. Note, I'm not trying to do something fancy like load in a chapter marker name file. Is anyone else seeing this? I want to make su...

Tips Please: Eliminating Jaggies on ATV 2 profile

Long-time user who has recently moved to CLI and Apple TV2. Looking for tips to solve a problem while I try various solutions myself. Hoping to make this post useful for others: Problem: jaggedness, jaggies, jagged motion in scenes of high motion / lots of lighting changes / and or things like fog a...

Re: New iPad and Apple TV presets

curious: anyone know how ATV2 will handle 1080p as encoded per Rodeo's suggestions? We had an ATV 1, and 2 ATV2s, but will replace the 1 with a 3, moving the 3 into our media room. Would like the convenience of one-encode, but <sigh> life is not always that easy :)

Thanks

VLC 1.x vs 2; impact on "shipping" HB ver

Respectfully, to the developers here: - I saw that VLC 2.0 is coming this week - Since Handbrake (currently) requires VLC, I wondered: what will VLC 2.0 mean for HB users, and HB 0.95 users in particular? Furthermore, might it make sense (I'm just asking, not suggesting) that the team put a cork on ...

Re: Partial Contribution: Poor Man's CLI Queuing

Have worked through a few issues with my shoddy coding but currently getting a missing backtick operator at line 9, which may be because the $NQ includes a CRLF. See my original post for commented script; this is uncommented whilst I debug... It may also be that there is a "-" at the end of the toke...

dunxd, I'm working on a script to provide "poor man's queuing" for HandbrakeCLI -- take a look and if you are handy with bash, lend a hand!

Re: Partial Contribution: Poor Man's CLI Queuing

For those who want a little bit of salt in the random queuing time to ensure there isn't contention, I offer the following quick enhancement:

Code: Select all

	SALT=20
	SALTSECS=$((RANDOM%SALT))
	QTIME=$((NQ*20*60+SALTSECS))

Partial Contribution: Poor Man's CLI Queuing

Note: I'm going to cross-post the existence of this post at Noodlesoft's Hazel forum, pointing to this thread as the canonical. There have been many calls for HandbrakeCLI to incorporate queuing. Development may be underway of that feature, but it isn't out yet AFAIK. I like to batch encode things ...

trac roadmap

I am a long-time handbrake user who has largely stayed quiet and thoroughly enjoyed all the wonderful and legal ripping I've done of MY OWN dvds using Handbrake. I can compile a build if need be, but generally rely on the public releases. I may have logged a bug once or twice. I wonder, as other use...

Re: [Fixed] 0.9.4 crashes when selecting new iPod presets

Is there a fix that can be applied to 0.9.4 in situ? The latest snapshots on /snapshots.php are still 0.9.4, which have the same problem. I'm getting this on 2/3 of my encodes for "Apple Universal"

Or, gulp, does one need to do something with the diff and compile something, somehow.

Thanks,

Heuristic approach

I think this request could actually be "solved" in a few hours if we users got together and collaborated on a heuristic approach. Pick a movie we all have. Yes different versions exist, oh well. Pick a portion or the whole thing. Whatever. Pick a codec. Pick 1-pass or two. Select your ASSIGNED bitra...

i think you may be experiencing an audio drop, the speed decrease in the encode is a symptom not limited to, but directly related to an audio drop. i believe the slowdown occurs only in the second pass when the file is actually being outputted. it does not occur on the first pass which is only used...

1st Pass Flies; 2nd Pass Crawls

22 - 24 fps on my imac of a MTR-ripped movie during the first pass, followed by 6 - 8 fps on the second pass.

I also noticed that choosing a pct (say 55%) slowed compression down to a crawl.

Any thoughts on things to try? Thanks
