Re: Tool to add subtitles to mp4s

I've posted this question in the Muxo forums but didn't get any reply, so I wonder if I'm the only one getting this issue with Muxo. When I try to add subtitles to an m4v file with Muxo, the resulting file works OK regarding the subtitles, but when I reimport the file in iTunes the metadata tags (in...

Re: iPhone 1.1.3 Testing

From earlier reports in this thread, it appears that QT 7.4 does in fact respect display width of 853 in anamorphically encoded rented movies. A question then is if these movies use the PASP atom, and if so, why the HB encoded ones (with PASP) do not display correctly in QT, FrontRow and AppleTV. Pe...

Re: 0.9.2 (Developers, please read)

Is the pasp patch going in? It's uncommitted (as of 1232). While mpeg4ip is patched, muxmp4.c still adds only the transformation matrix to the output file. Please disregard if that is known/intentional.

Re: iPhone 1.1.3 Testing

It doesn't cover anamorphic support in the different "devices" (including software ones) like iTunes, QuickTime, VLC, FrontRow. Not that I expected it to cover, since that is an *iPod* chart. :)

Re: iPhone 1.1.3 Testing

So this means that the AppleTV (1.1) supports correctly the pasp atom? Is there a table (like the "iPod H.264 video capabilities chart" in this forum) reporting compatibility of the different anamorphic information formats (stored aspect, transformation matrix and pasp atom) to the different devices...

Re: iPhone Anamorphic

I can also confirm that movies created with the patches above and the pasp atom work and sync correctly in an iPod 5G, show correctly in iTunes 7.6 and incorrectly in QT 7.4/FrontRow.

Re: iPhone 1.1.3 Testing

It seems that Apple took one of the methods discussed here: http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3759 What I wonder is if the SD movie rentals play correctly in QT 7.4 and FrontRow. It seems that just using the pasp atom as done in the latest patch submitted in the dev forum still only show...

Re: iPhone 1.1.3 Testing

I checked the multiple audio track (language) support in iTunes, and it works! But in QuickTime it does not allow the selection of the language track (the submenu is empty), and I can't find a way to set it in FrontRow either. Regarding anamorphic, I haven't tested exhaustively, but it seems that th...

Where can I find such explanation? As I said, I didn't know if what I did was right (it seems it wasn't), but I checked the encoded video and when displayed with a 776 width it is definitely distorted, and when displayed at 853 the proportion is right (I checked a perfect circle which appears in one...

Playing with Loose Anamorphic

Hello, I’m doing some tests with the loose anamorphic option first introduced in r1029. I’m trying to encode a loose anamorphic movie with a 640 width limit which can be played on the iPod (with a 2000 kbps video bitrate), and so, for doing that, I have commented the sanity check at Controller.mm (I...

There is an ongoing discussion in the QuickTime mailing list about the formats and sample movies of closed caption support in the QuickTime Player and iTunes: http://lists.apple.com/archives/QuickTime-Users/2007/Sep/msg00020.html I managed to save a sample .mov with CC support, but didn't managed ye...

Improved bitrate supported on new iPods

It seems Apple has improved the h.264 support on the new iPods: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2....

According to this Topic http://handbrake.m0k.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2134 does PAR actually work on the iPod, so this might not be needed. Still a good Idea. I created that topic. According to that, PAR works on the iPod if that patch is applied, and that is not in the official trunk because 1. i...

Isnt this test in PrepareJob? If so, wont this only get called when the job has already been configured and will be queued/started? I dont have a copy here with me to check it out.

Disable PAR checkbox if iPod encoder is selected

Since the PAR option doesn't work when the iPod encoder is selected, it would be better to have it disabled so that the user wouldn't select it believing it works. This patch for r791 does just that: diff -ruN HandBrake/macosx/Controller.mm HandBrake.impede/macosx/Controller.mm --- HandBrake/macosx/...

I agree that there is a tradeoff between the improved vertical resolution and decreased "bitrate per macroblock" resulting from the iPod bitrate ceiling and increased number of macroblocks. But anyway, it started out more as a test, and I've reencoded some videos using these settings, also cropping ...

It does work

I've modified Handbrake to do as I wanted. It does work. To my surprise, the iPod even considers the display aspect ratio information from MPEG-4 files, so the videos are not distorted in the iPod screen, and the improved vertical resolution makes the videos look great on QuickTimes/iTunes. More abo...

Anamorphic video works on the iPod

Hello there, I just removed some of the checks HandBrake makes to be sure that anamorphic video is not encoded to the iPod, an idea first suggested here: http://handbrake.m0k.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7391 Well, I can now tell that anamorphic video is indeed supported in the iPod. It respects the di...

I'm back from my trip. No, playing it distorted in the iPod is not my goal. If I could leave my movies on the iPod in an anamorphic format (disregarding the resolution which is set in the container, which I suppose the iPod does, that is, considering the video with something like 640x358), it would then show perfectly on the TV, when set to a widescreen source. It would th...

I think Handbrake is failing to consider that there are square and non-square pixels. If it did so, perhaps it would use 868 as the width in the container format for anamorphic movies, depending if it is considering square or non-square pixels. I'm traveling tomorrow and will be back just in 10 days...

Ok, I understand Anamorphic Widescreen as: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphic_widescreen Anamorphic widescreen is a video encoding technique used to optimize the vertical picture resolution of widescreen images by squeezing these horizontally into a 4:3 native aspect ratio. If you consider it t...
