Re: Same as Source and VFR results in widely different VFR

Thanks for the quick reply. I will not be editing. Strictly viewing. I just did not want to run into a device issue as I have never had any videos with a FR that high before I am going to test the file both using Plex on Roku and USB on Roku. But I think I may use PFR and cap it at 29.97 because all...

Same as Source and VFR results in widely different VFR

Description of problem or question: I am re-encoding all my tv shows using x265. I originally used Handbrake and x264 and the original source was DVD. Mediainfo shows some of my shows with a VFR range around 11.xxx to 29.970. While the min rate varies the max seems to always be 29.970. It has been ...

Why do Blu-Ray movies have such high bitrate

I am just curious about this. How is it that Handbrake, using a CQ of 21 (what seems to be what the majority uses for pretty close to actual) can produce a file with a much smaller bitrate for the video than than what the original Blu-ray file bitrate is? It is the same h.264 format right? The studi...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.6 Discussion Thead

Sorry to repost but I think my questions got ran over by the target files size issue. My question was on the 64-bit version and is the 7th one in this thread. Additionally, with this new version and new AC3 updates can anyone tell a difference between DTS Passthru and encoding the DTS to AC3? I am t...

Re: HandBrake 0.9.6 Discussion Thead

I noticed that the 64-bit version is listed in the download. Does this mean it is no longer experimental? I noticed in the nightly downloads that it was always listed as experimental but good results. Are there any features that are not available in the 64-bit version due to there not being 64-bit u...

Re: Next stable release

Thanks for the reply on that. That is one less thing I have to check on then each day. lol. I will just wait for the main page to display 0.9.6 is available for download :). I am still deciding if things are far enough along to hold off on anymore encodes. But the nightly builds have been doing well...

Re: Next stable release

I am anxiously awaiting too, but also understand work is being done on free time. I have been checking this link from time to time and if I read it right, there are 5 active tickets to be resolved for the 0.9.6. But I could be wrong in how that is read. And I guess another ticket could show up. I am...

Re: Any difference between Eac3to and Handbrake DTS to AC3?

I know this is an old thread, but I have recently looked at converting DTS to AC3 when using Handbrake just to have the ability to use MKV2VOB to make a compatible PS3 version should I ever have to play from a USB on PS3. For me MKV2VOB messes up with DTS audio. I have downloaded the nightly builds ...

Re: Great software! - New versions?

I love this software as well and anxiously wait for each final release. It is by far the best out there. I have tried the nightly builds from time to time to see what is being added and have used it to encode video. I do have a question regarding nightly builds. If a job completes with no errors or ...

I checked out the link to the fix. Will this be added to handbrake? How can the fix be applied? Thanks for working on this.

Re: Muxing: this may take awhile...

I think I have found my issue, but not sure what to make of it. In my testing I have been using Stargate SG-1 Season 1, Disc 1. When I load it up in Handbrake, episode 2 shows Chapters 1-9, duration 44:10. When I play the episode, there are only scenes 1-8 to choose from in the scene selection. I se...

Re: Muxing: this may take awhile...

Thanks for the reply. I guess I need to start getting use to CRF. The first time I tried it my files were 3 times the size as using a 2-pass ABR and did not look much better. When I finally found a CRF setting that produced the same size, it looked horrible. Probably just some tweaking I need to do ...

Re: Muxing: this may take awhile...

Is there a solution other than setting the framerate? I know the docs say to leave the framerate "same as source" to get the variable framerate and to be more accurate and I would prefer to do that. It seems to effect the CLI as well as it will crash at the end of the encode.

Thanks

Re: Muxing: this may take awhile...

I have started getting this too. I was not at first, but I was also only encoding 1 chapter as I played around with the new version. When I select to encode the whole episode, I get the hanging everytime. The file seems to be fine, but it does keep me from encoding back to back using scripts.

Re: Batch Converting TV Show DVDs

Here is what I do. It takes a little setup but works for me. First I Decrypt a season of DVDs into a folder naming them <show name>_SxDy (where x is the season number and y is the disk number) I will use Stargate SG1 Season 1 as my example I use SG1_S1D1 for season 1 disc 1 I then create a .txt file...

Re: Pyramidal B-Frames and PS3 audio issue

mbtree is on by default and is incompatible with b-pyramid. When mbtree is on, x264 automatically disables b-pyramid (i.e. the mbtree option overrides the b-pyramid option). Thanks for the clarification. The string I posted was the auto generated one HB uses and even though I was selecting b-pyrami...

Re: Normal profile shows different mixed ref command line

Sorry. I first started to enter this in the Windows thread but then realized this is probably better. It is the Windows GUI. Once you start checking and unchecking it will fix itself, but on initial selection of the profile it is different.

Re: Pyramidal B-Frames and PS3 audio issue

I will admit I am no x264 expert so the replies are a little confusing. I was not aware I was turning off mbtree. What in my comment led you to that conclusion? I am just selecting options on the Advanced tab and do not see anything called mbtree Here is the option string that HB generates for the o...

Pyramidal B-Frames and PS3 audio issue

I was wondering if anyone with a PS3 has had any audio issues when using Pyramidal B-Frames in 0.9.4? For me, the audio is slightly off. You have to watch closely but you can tell it is off. From my testing it seems to be the Pyramidal B-Frames. However, the video plays fine in Windows so I am sure ...

Re: How to enable Variable Framerate Detelecine in Windows Ver?

Can you explain this comment in more detail? As of 0.9.3, VFR detelecine is enabled by selecting detelecine while keeping framerate same as source. Does this mean that same as source is = vfr and checking detelecine plus same as source gives you VFR detelecine? I ask because I do an encode with the ...

Mix 2 channel and 6 channel or 6 channel only when encoding?

I was wondering what people are doing when they have a movie or TV show that has 6 channel (or 5.1 channel) audio. Some movies will include both 2 channel and 6 channel. My Stargate SG-1 DVDs have 6 channel (at least Season 2 does so far and I was suprised as I did not know they had this in the earl...
