Where are settings stored? Move settings file to install dir?

I downloaded and extracted the portable zip 64bit version of Handbrake in Win7. After start I changed e.g. the path to VLC videoplayer in Preferences and expected to find the file where it is stored somewhere in extraction folder. But all the *.config files in HB folder do NOT contain this informati...

How to calculate average variable video bitrate? Create MKV without re-encoding?

Assume I have already a *.MKV video with a variable video bitrate. Now I want to find out the average video bitrate. Since it is a variable bitrate popular codec/media information tools like MedieInfo do not show it. So I could imagine that specialized MKV tools like Handbrake are able to calculate ...

Why does HB not remember query entries?

Assume I entered some re-encoding jobs into the queue but did not start them. Later I exit HB, reboot and restart HB. Much to my surprise all the previously entered jobs were not existing any more. Why does HB not remember them? Could you include remembering of queue jobs in the next release? Thank ...

Dimensions are not recognized/Target resolution adjustment?

I want to convert a VIDEO_TS source on my hard disc to an AVI. When I loaded the VIDEO_TS folder then the source is recognized as with dimensions 720 x 576 The original format of the VOBs is however 16:9, So I would like to have a target AVI of 720 x 408 pixel. Where can I adjust this resolution set...

Queue entries do not survive exit+restart

After configuring an encoding job I added some entries to the quene. I exited HB and restarted it. After restart HB asks me something similar as: "HB detected some unfinished jobs. Should HB recover these entries" I clicked "yes" but much to my surprise the jobs were listed in "SHow queue" but not c...

Is audio "Stereo" = "Joint stereo" ?

On the "Audio & subtitles" tab I can specify the target audio quality.

In the "Mixdown" column/dropdown I found no "Joint stereo" (for MP3).
Is there only "stereo" or is "Stereo" =" Joint stereo" ?

Which encoder is used ? Lame?

Video quality spec values exclusive?

On the "video" tab I can specify the target "Quality" of the video.

It seems to me that the three values
- Target size
- Avg. Bitrate
- Constant quality

are exclusive. That means I can only specify ONE of the three and the others will be ignored.

Is this correct?

Which video codec is the best for AVI: H.264, Xvid, or ffmp

On the "video" tab there is a drop down for the video codec.

When I want to convert a VIDEO_TS/DVD to an AVI: Which video codec is the best/recommended?

How to request for support BEFORE any Activity?

From what I have read so far it is ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED to provide some Activity.Log when asking a question. At least posts without activity log are not accepted. This somehow unusual for such forums and even more cannot be done when I (as a newbie) have questions BEFORE starting some activities. Is ...

Does HB support DivX codec ? 2-pass Divx ?

Does HB support DivX codec ?

When I go to the "Video" tab then I found no DivX codec listed.
is it hidden behind some other entry like MPEG-4 (ffmpeg) or H.264?

If it is possible: Is 2-pass encoding supported as well or only 1-pass?
