Audio encoding options

Hi, firstly apologies for what may seem stupid - but I did read the relevant section in the wiki before posting. I encoded a chapter of a blu ray rip in dolby surround, dolby pro logic l2 and stereo myself to try and work it out without bothering people as well, but to no avail. If I'm encoding a bl...

YV12 to YUY2?

Not that i really understand much/anything about colorspaces but could someone tell me what causes handbrake to take YV12 dvd footage and then output a YUY2 mkv? This happens whether I use ffmpeg or x264. Did a quick encode just to generate an activity log: [01:22:02] 2 job(s) to process [01:22:02] ...

Re: FFMPEG @ Quality 1.0

Couldnt find a setting for subme, is it the same as subq? I don't suppose you know what constant quality fractional granularity is?

Re: FFMPEG @ Quality 1.0

Ok heres the thing thats confused me with tweaking x264, at Constant Quality, will lower refs (and motion estimation and subqs and all that) lose quality or just cost diskspace? Cos I'm not too fussed with diskspace. Also another reason i was using ffmpeg was that its much less of a hit on cpu to de...

Re: Aspect ratio problems

My advice would be to set anamorphic to none and then force a resolution with the right aspect ratio - handbrakes always worked fine for me doing it this way.

FFMPEG @ Quality 1.0

Ok it may seem like a dumb question but I was warned against using Constant Quality = 1.0 on x264 due to the fact it'd attempt to be lossless and thus inflate file size probably past the original. BUT ffmpeg @ 1.0 isn't inflating file size unreasonably at all, NOR is it anywhere near lossless - ther...

Minimise CPU usage?

Hi I'm wondering about how to make a video easier to play? This is just for a PC so no set device profiles or anything need to be adhered to but i'd like to keep the res (1920x800) so no down-sizing. I tried encoding with the "Film" preset but its a little jerky (despite CPU usage never hi...

Re: Autocrop hurts my head!

Cheers for the help! All solved now tho - very simple solution. It turns out that the problem is me being a complete idiot. Did some maths wrong. I measured the true image to be 1680x700 (on my 1680x1050 monitor, using screenshots) and then scaled that up wrongly. Turns out that (as usual) computers...

Autocrop hurts my head!

Hi. Brand new here - somethings been puzzling me enough to register here. One - how do you turn off autocrop? In the windows version its actually keyable whereas in this it seems hidden in the presets? Also from a 1920x1080 video i measured the actual image to be 1920x780, but handbrake only crops 1...
